LUCKNOW: Aiming to make Uttar Pradesh a 1 trillion dollar economy, ChiefMinisterYogiAdityanathhas envisioned ‘UP for UP, UP for India, UPforGlobal’forthestate.

TheChiefMinisterhassaidthatnow isthetimeofUttarPradesh.Utilisingall of its potentials, Uttar Pradesh will establish itself as the most important base for the nation’s multidimensional growth.

Fixing sector-wise short-term and long-term strategies according to UP’s potential, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has set a timeframe of five yearstoachievethisambitiousgoal.

The Chief Minister has said that by the year 2027, Uttar Pradesh will become a state with an economy of $1 trillion. On Friday, the Chief Minister held a review meeting with officials of various departments related to the state’s income-expenditure and one trillion dollar economy and issued necessaryinstructions.

The Chief Minister said that

according to the vision of the Prime Minister, it is our mission to make Uttar Pradesh a trillion-dollar economy. Officers should concentrate on core sectorsforthis, andourcoresectorsare manufacturing, IT & ITES, religious tourism, and agriculture. Apart from this, we also need to give a special focus on sectors like energy, health, urban development, education, food processing, and MSME, among others. The officials informed the Chief Minister that there is a plan to develop the major metropolitan cities of the state as hubs for different sectors. In this sequence, preparations are on to make Lucknow the country’s first AI city. Along with this, the Chief Minister discussedwiththeofficialshowtomake thestateahubforgreenenergy.

Instructing the officers, the Chief Ministersaidthatwemustmovequickly to make the state a $1 trillion dollar economy. More technology will have to be used to bring transparency to the system.Anytypeofpendencywillnotbe

tolerated at all. UP has a base of 96 lakh units of MSMEs. To make the state a trillion-dollar economy, there is a need toplanonalargescaleregardingthis. While reviewing the construction sector, the Chief Minister said that 54 lakh houses have been constructed for the poor in the state. Directing the officers, he said that all types of construction work must be registered. Use technology for this. We should have a record of every construction work going on in the cities and villages. | The safety of registered construction projects should be guaranteed by this system. Arrange for insurance against any accidents that may occur during or after the registered construction work. Every construction project related to infrastructure should be registered. This will increase transparency. It should also be kept in mind that any construction work should be done only on barren and infertile land. Construction work should not be done onagriculturalland.

India, Japan signs Joint Action Plan for AEO schemes

NEW DELHI: India and Japan have agreed on a blueprint to mutually recognise the trade facilitation schemes offered by each of the nations in a bid to support businesses in both the countries and to facilitate bilateral trade.

The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) on Saturday said that it has signed a joint action plan with the customs authorities in Japan at a meeting in Brussels. The action plan lays out the “roadmap for entering into a Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA) for authorised economic operators (AEOs) of both countriesinthenearfuture,”CBICsaidinaTweet.

The agreement was signed on the sidelines of a meeting of the World Customs Organisation (WCO) CustomsCo-operationCouncilmeeting.

“The MRA has the potential for giving India-Japan trade a major fillip” and for enhancement of opportunities fortheindustryatbothends, saidCBIC.

India is actively seeking to strike deals with the UAE, Australia, Russia, Japan and the East African Community underwhichhighlyvaluedtradeprivilegesgiventotrusted exporters, importers and logistics players in one country willbehonouredbytheothercountry.

AEO is a key scheme meant to facilitate ease of doing business. Entering into these mutual recognition agreements(MRAs)hasseveralbenefitsforIndia.

The privileges that accredited merchants and businesses get under India’s AEO scheme — quicker

clearance of shipments at ports, lower inspection rate, quicker tax refunds, facility for deferred duty payment and acceptance of self-declaration of origin of goods — will be availabletotheminthecountrysigninganMRAwithIndia. Besides, AEO-accredited Indian exporters’ partners in othercountrieswillalsogetthesebenefits.

India has given the status of AEO to close to 5,600 trade participants—importers, exporters, logistics providers, custom brokers and warehouse operators–as they are compliant with supply chain standards and security norms.

India should consider free trade agreement with Egypt: Exporters

NEW DELHI: India should consider negotiating a free trade agreement (FTA) with Egypt as the Mediterranean nation holds huge potential for the domestic industry in various sectors like agri products, steel items and light vehicles, accordingtoexporters.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in Cairo for a two-day state visit at the invitation of Egyptian President Abdel FattahEl-Sisi.

Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) Director General Ajay Sahai said that India and Egypt have historic trade relations, which are robust and fairly balanced.

India’s exports increased to USD 4.1 billion in 2022-23 from USD 3.74 billion in 2021-22. However, imports from that country declined to about USD 2 billion against USD 3.5billionin2021-22.

Fertiliser, crudeoil, chemicals, rawcotton, andrawhides are major import items from Egypt. The main export items includewheat,rice,cottonyarn,petroleum,meat,flat-rolled

products,ferroalloys(relatedtoiron)andlightvehicles.

“The prime minister’s visit is significant as Egypt is the gateway to Africa and Europe. A cementing of economic relations and possibly a feasibility study for FTA can be undertaken as Egypt has such FTAs with countries in West Asia and Africa,” Sahai said. Besides cooperation in agriculture, biotechnology, pharma, and renewable energy, Indiashouldexploretie-upsinlogisticswithEgypt,headded.

“We should look at taking trade to USD 15 billion in the next three years from the current over USD 6 billion,” he said.

Egypt to woo Indian Investors with Special Spot on Suez Canal Economic Zone

Egypt has been positioning its Suez Canal region as a primeinvestmentprospectforIndianbusinesses.

One of the major strategic choke points in the world connecting the Mediterranean Sea with the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean, the Suez Canal is controlled by Egypt, andcommands20percentofglobalcontainertrade.

The Suez Canal holds significant importance for Indian trade too. Out of the total 4.8 million barrels per day of crude oil shipped and transported through the canal, 500,000barrelsperdayofcrudeisshippedtoIndia.

The development axis of the Suez Canal region, SCZONE, includes a number of industrial and logistical zones.

The SCZONE is part of Egypt’s plan to transform the country into a global logistical and commercial centre by linking the Red and Mediterranean seas through mega industrialandlogisticalzones.

It is a 460-kilometre independent, emerging international commercial hub with six maritime ports strategically located between Africa, Middle East and Europe.

A delegation led by the Chairman of the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) Waleid Gamal Eldien recently held discussions on India-Egypt economic engagement, especially potential investment opportunities in diverse areas like renewable energy, green hydrogen, and infrastructure.

India was offered full support for establishing a strong industrial presence in the SCZONE during the Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi’s visit to New Delhi in January.

S&P retains FY24 India growth projection at 6%, fastest in Asia Pacific

NEW YORK: S&P Global Ratings retained India's GDP growth forecast at 6 per cent saying it will be the fastest growing economy among Asia Pacific nations. The GDP growth forecast for the current and the next fiscal has been kept unchanged from the forecast made in March partly on accountofdomesticresilience.

"Weseethefastestgrowthatabout 6 per cent in India, Vietnam, and the Philippines, S&P Global Ratings said in its quarterly economic update for Asia-Pacific.

"The medium-term growth outlook remains relatively solid.

The Asian emerging market economies remain among the fastest growing ones in our global growth outlook through 2026," said Louis Kuijs, Asia-Pacific Chief EconomistatS&PGlobalRatings.

S&P said retail inflation is likely to soften to 5 per cent this fiscal from 6.7 per cent, and the RBI is expected to cut interest rates only early next year.

"In India, under the assumption of normal monsoons, we expect headline consumer inflation to soften to 5 per cent in fiscal 2024 from 6.7 per cent. Softer crude prices and

tempering of demand will bring down fuelandcoreinflation, respectively.

"The inflation and rate hike cycles have peaked, in our opinion. But we expect the Reserve Bank of India to cut rates only in early 2024, as it wants to see consumer inflation moving to 4 per cent--the centre of its target range,"Kuijssaid.

S&P has lowered the growth forecast for China to 5.2 per cent from 5.5percentfor2023.

"For the rest of the region, we have left it broadly unchanged, in part because of domestic resilience," S&Psaid.
