Highlighting the importance of the MSEDCL distribution franchisee at the JNPA, Shri Sanjay Sethi, IAS, Chairman, JNPA, in his address, stated, “JNPA is the first Major Port to become a Distribution Franchisee (DF) through MOU route with state Discom MSEDCL. This is one of the major achievements as it will enable the power consumers in the JNPA DF area to avail power supply from green energy sources.”
He added, “the commissioning of the GSM/RF based remotely controlled dimmable Smart Street Lighting System is a pilot project, which is our another green exercise under the ministry’s initiative of theMaritimeIndiaVision2030.”

MUMBAI/DELHI: Gateway Distriparks Limited (GDL) has today completed the acquisition of Kashipur Infrastructure and Freight Terminal Private Limited (KIFTPL), which owns and operates ICD Kashipur located in Uttarakhand. Spread over 41 acres, the ICD has three rail sidings and the target market in the region includes various industries such as paper products, wastepaper, chemicals, home furnishings, handicrafts, automotive parts, polyfilms, soda ash and other industrial goods. ICD Kashipur will add additional volumes to the rail operations of GDL and will be connected to the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor via the company’s ICD in Gurgaon by utilising GDL’s hub and spoke
operations, and increasing the overall doublestackvolumeforthecompany.
As per the Share Purchase Agreementsignedon31stOctober2022, GDL has purchased 99.92% of the shareholding of KIFTPL from its majority shareholders, Apollo LogiSolutions Limited, India Glycols Limited (IGL) and Kashipur Holdings Limited at an Enterprise Value of approximately INR 155.67 crores, and accordinglyGDLhaspaidanaggregate cash consideration of approximately INR 144.47 crores to the majority shareholders of KIFTPL. The Enterprise Value has been adjusted onaccountofexistingloansforanamount ofapproximatelyINR11.20crores.

LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh Government’s Cabinet approved the ‘UP Warehousing and Logistics Policy 2022, State’s Industrial Development Minister ShriNandGopalGupta said,stressing that the move will help it become a “USD 1-trillion economy”. The policy’s approval comes ahead of the Global Investors’ Summit scheduled to be held
inLucknowinFebruary2023.
“The objective of this policy is to createastrongtransportinfrastructure network, upgrade and improve the existing warehousing and logistics infrastructure,”Guptasaid.
He said the ‘Uttar Pradesh Warehousing and Logistics Policy 2022’ will prove to be very useful in creating an international-level business

NEW DELHI: India is working out a plantorampupcargohandlingcapacity of its ports four fold to 10,000 million tonnes per annum (mtpa). A comprehensive ports master plan will spell out the target to be achieved by 2047,coincidingwith100yearsofIndia’s Independence,accordingtosources.
“The goal under Vision 2047 is to increase the port handling capacity to 10,000 MTPA. Contours of the plan will soon be spelled out. There will be avenues for private participation that arebeingworkedupon,”aseniorofficial said.
India has 12 major ports and 78 operational non-major ports. The total annualcapacityofmajorportsstandsat 1,597.59mtpawhilenon-majorportscan handle 1,007.40 mtpa. This takes the country’stotaloperationalportcapacity to2,604.99mtpa.
In April this year, the shipping ministry had issued directions for preparationofacomprehensivemaster planforportswithaplanninghorizonof 2047.
The Indian Ports Association, an apex body of major ports, has been directed to integrate all port master plans with respect to vision 2047 and prepareacomprehensiveplan.
At a ‘chintan baithak’ organised in June, Shipping Minister Shri Sarbananda Sonowal had asked all ports to prepare a master plan in order to become mega ports by 2047. “Improving port infrastructure and facilities, reducing turnaround time, andincreasinghandlingcapacitywillbe the bedrock of the 2047 target,” another officialsaid.
The latest goal is well above the targets set under the ongoing
Sagarmala programme that aims boosting port capacity by 800 million metric tonne per annum (mmtpa) to an overall 3,500 mmtpa by 2035.
As a part of Sagarmala programme, more than 800 projects at an estimated cost of Rs 5.5 lakh crore have been identified for implementation during 2015-2035. In a nearer goal, the Maritime India Vision (MIV) 2030 has a goal to develop global standard ports in India. The MIV 2030 estimates investmentstothetuneofRs1-1.25lakh crore for capacity augmentation and infrastructure development at Indian ports.
Separately, India is also working on developing LNG handling and ship refuelling capacity at all major ports with an estimated investment of Rs 20,000crore.
NEW DELHI : Indian exporters are keeping their fingers crossed on account of rising Covid infections in China and other countries as it could again disrupt supply chains and affect demandforgoods.
Federation of Indian Export Organisations(FIEO)DirectorGeneral Ajay Sahai said that if the cases continuetoincreaseinthecomingdays, it may have implications on imports. “We are keeping our fingers crossed,” hesaid.
Sahai said that if Chinese industries start shutting down due to rise in Covid cases, it would impact imports of key components for sectors such as pharmaceuticals, electronics and automobiles.“If the situation persists, then there would be issues,” headded.
According to the commerce ministry data, India’s imports from China during April-October this fiscal stoodatUSD60.27billion,whileexports aggregatedatUSD8.77billion.
Major goods imported from China included electronic items, organic and inorganic chemicals, medicinal and pharmaceutical products, fertilisers, crude and manufactured and dyeing/tanning/colouringmaterials.

MUMBAI: India’s foreign exchange reserves contracted by $571 million afterwitnessinggainsforfiveweeksina row. Forex reserves with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) stood at $563.5 billionfortheweekendedDecember16, according to data released by the
centralbank.Forexreservesweredown $44 billion as compared to March 31, 2022, and were lower by $72 billion on a year-on-yearbasis.
The reserves had improved by $34 billion during the past five weeks put together. The RBI had net sold $33.42
billion till September, Parliament was informedearlier.
Forex reserves had fallen to their lowest levels since July 2020 to $528 billion for the week ended October 14, from an all-time high of $645 billion in October2021.

NEW DELHI: Shri Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry,ConsumerAffairs,Food,and Public Distribution and Textiles, Government of India, and His Excellency Mr. Tipu Munshi, Commerce Minister, Government of Bangladesh met in New Delhi recently. The last meeting between the Commerce Ministers of the two countries was held in Dhaka in September2018.
Both sides held comprehensive discussions to further strengthen bilateraleconomicrelations.
A Joint feasibility study on a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) has been carried out after the two
countries agreed for exploring a bilateral FTA. The study confirmed the CEPA would provide a sound basis for substantial enhancement of trade and commercial partnership betweenthetwocountries.
Further, both sides agreed that CEPAwillcreatenewjobs,raiseliving standards, and provide wider social and economic opportunities in India and Bangladesh. In addition, the partnership would establish reliable and sustainable Regional Value Chains(RVCs).
Both sides agreed to starting the CEPAdiscussionsatanearlydate.
The Ministers discussed various issues of mutual interest including removal of non-tariff barriers and
port restrictions, re-opening of border haats, harmonization and mutual recognition of Standards and proceduresonbothsides,settlement of trade in Indian rupees, strengthening connectivity and trade infrastructure, among others, to realise the full potential of IndiaBangladesheconomicties.
Both sides agreed to work togetherinordertoresolvetheissues raised during the course of the meeting and ensure that the outcomes expected in the Joint Statement by the two leaders, PM Narendra Modi and PM Sheikh Hasina, in September 2022 are achieved in letter and spirit at the earliest.
CHENNAI : Maruti Suzuki India Ltd said it has signed a five-year pact with Kamarajar Port Ltd for export of its passenger vehicles to international markets. Under the agreement starting December 2022, Kamarajar Port will be used for exports to Africa, Middle East, Latin America, ASEAN, Oceania and SAARC regions by the company, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL) said inastatement.
The port will be used to export around 20,000 cars annually. A car-cum-general cargo berth has been developed and commissioned by Kamarajar Port Ltd for handling automobile units, it added.
“The start of exports from the KamarajarPortwillhelpusreachout to a wider base of customers. This initiative will also help to decongest the Mumbai Port, Mundra Port and Pipavav Port used by the company to export vehicles at present,” MSIL Managing Director &CEOHisashiTakeuchi said.
He further said the company’s expanding export operations reflect itscommitmentto“offerreliable,high quality,technologicallyadvancedcars toourglobalcustomers”.
MSIL said it posted its highest ever exports at over 2.38 lakh units to more than 100 countries in 2021-22. The company will continue to export from the Mumbai Port, Mundra Port
andPipavavPort.
Kamarajar Port Ltd, CMD Sunil Paliwal said,”Maruti Suzuki hasearnedthedistinctionofbeinga major contributor to exports from India, and associating with the company will help us augment our operationsaswell.”
Maruti Suzuki’s Grand Vitara is manufactured at Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s Bidadi plant in Karnataka under the partnership between SuzukiMotorCorporationandToyota Motor Corporation, will be sent to the pre-delivery inspection center at the Kamarajar Port, and subsequently shipped,thestatementsaid.

NEW DELHI: The Minister of Railways, Communications and Electronic & Information Technology, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw informed the Rajya Sabha that percentage increase in revenue from freight traffic by Railways during the last three years vis-à-vispreviousyearisasshown.
Indian Railways is constantly in touch with its customers. Its focus is on meeting the needs of freight in terms of timely availability, reliable service and proper handling of cargo. Ministry of Railways has schemes to attract private investment in General Purpose Wagons, Special Purpose/High Capacity wagons and
Automobile carrier wagons. Various steps taken by the Railways for speedy sanction and implementation of rail projects including augmentation of Traffic Facility include (i) setting up of Gati Shakti units (ii) prioritisation of projects (iii) substantial increase in allocation of funds on priority projects
(iv) delegation of powers at field level (v) close monitoring of progress of projects at various levels, and (vi) regular follow up with State Governments and concerned authorities for expeditious land acquisition, forestry and wildlife clearances and for resolving other issuespertainingtoprojects.

AHMEDABAD: Regulation 6 of the CBrLR 2018 provides for conducting an examination of applicants for Customs Brokers License with eligibility criteria specifiedinRegulation5.
The number of applicants each year increases in comparisontoearlieryears.
There is an urgent need for a large number of qualified and well read, conversant and professionals Customs Broker especially in the new Export Import locations i.e., the AFS; ICD’s and new ports coming up alloverthecountry.
Custom Clearance is truly “Knowledge based” itisPartof“Knowledgeindustry”.
Custom Brokers have an unique place in India’s economy and their importance cannot be undermined.
It is for Custom Brokers individually and collectively to assist Indian Customs in the execution of their role. Besides Revenue Collection and Enforcement functions Customs have many other roles to perform. They are broadly summarized as: community protection; trade statistics; audit; implemental trade agreements; foreign trade policy andborderprotectionetc.
Before starting preparations candidates need to ponderonafewrealities:
• When was the last time candidate wrote an exam paper?
• Does she / he remember sitting in one place for nearly 3 hours without getting up; talking to anyone;notea/coffeeandwriting?
It is to be remembered that the exam is of “Domainknowledge”.

• Read up as much material as you may find on each topic.

• Writeasyoustudy.
• Preferablystudyalone.
• Put in at least 4 hours daily from now onwards on preparations.
• Read up related subjects/topics also –INCOTERMS;WTO;WCO;Customsinthemodern
times; Evolution of Customs in the liberalized economy of India – these will help you write better, more qualified and structuredanswers.
The candidates have the option to answer either in HindiorinEnglish.
The best resource would be www.cbic.gov.in Customs andGST. Make sure you refer toeverythinghereonceatleast.
It is recommended that you read the index of The Customs Act 1962 8 to 10 times. To familiarize you with the Act; it’s structing and the details covered. Do not read the Act till you have a fair idea of the numberofchapters;andthesectionscoveredinit.
Make ita practicefor aslong asyou prepare to read theindexatleastoncedaily.
A continuous reading thereafter making notes or markingdetailsshouldstart.
The Act is easily learnt by learning in the following order:
• Chapter1;2;3; • Chapter17; • Chapter4;4A;4B;4C; • Chapters5;5A;5AA;7;7A;9;10; • Chapters5B;6;8;11;12;12A;12B; • Chapters13;14;14A;15;16;
Once you have done the above then start reading the different Regulations; Rules; PN’s Circulars and theothernotessenttoyou.
The exam is a MCQ (Multiple choice questions) examinations in English and Hindi. The Candidate is asked 150 questions to be answered in 150 minutes, with each correct answer earning the candidate 3 marks and each wrong answer awarding minus one. Thepassingis60%.
The exam is to test your domain knowledge and the MCQ’s would be designed to enable the department judge the same. There is a tendency to ask you twisted questions – please read question very carefully and answer.
Such a preparation will also reflect in the way you willworkyourselfinthefuture.
Please remember that Custom Clearance is dynamic- processes would change; Government Policies would change; expectations of importers and exporters would change. This makes it all the more important that you study for retention of knowledge andgrowthoftheindividual.
Always remember that every consignment small or big; for import or export would require you to use all that you learn for this exam. You shall be compelled to use their knowledge for the rest of your working career.
Kindly also note that this is a career forming exam and all Custom clearances; problems of clients; festivals; entertainment; etc. must take a back seat fromnowtilltheexams.
