This outcome resulted from the verification of ‘KR GEARs’, a Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emission Authentic Reporting system launched by the Korean Register(KR).

BHILWARA: The operations of the ICD (Inland Container Depot) at Bhilwara re-started on 22nd July, 23, after a gap of 13 years. In Bhilwara, the ICD was started 34 years back, in the year of 1989, but due to lack of business,itwasclosedintheyear2010.

Currently, only import and export facilities are being enrouted through ICD at Jodhpur and Jaipur. Apart from this, the facilities of import-export by air are being provided through air cargo complex located at Sanganer Airport in Jaipur.

The concept of a smart port has emerged in this context.

India needs sustainable ports to support its growing economy and address environmental concerns. Rapid growth of port infrastructure and operations has also had significant environmental impacts,suchaspollutionandhabitatdestruction.By adopting sustainable practices, such as reducing emissions, conserving energy and water, and managing waste, Indian ports can mitigate their environmentalimpactandcontributetothecountry’s overall sustainable development goals. The smart port ecosystem is revolutionising the way ports operate, making them more efficient, sustainable, and safe. These technologies integrate the entire port system, connecting stakeholders, hinterland connections, and port infrastructure in a seamlessandsmartmanner.

Integrating the port ecosystem with technologies

will require the deployment of cutting-edge IoT, AI, blockchain, and big data analytics solutions. These technologies enable port stakeholders to collect, share, andanalysedatainreal time, enabling them to make informed decisions and optimise port operations.

With real-time data on vessel movements, cargo flows, and port infrastructure, port operators can optimise their resources, reducing waiting times and increasing throughput. This, in turn, reduces costs and enhances the ports’ competitiveness. Moreover, smart port technologies can help reduce the environmental impact of port operations. CII is rated A, B, C, D, or E (where A is the best). The rating indicates a major superior, minor superior, moderate, minor inferior, or inferior performance level. A ship rated D for three consecutive years, or E, isrequiredtosubmitacorrectiveactionplantoshowhow therequiredindex(Corabove)wouldbeachieved.

The IMO plans to apply a CII rating from 2024 based ontheperformanceofvesseloperationin2023.

KR GEARs (GHG Emission Authentic Reporting system)

KR GEARs features greenhouse gas online data management, including a real-time CII monitor, CII simulator, and ETS calculator. This platform enables the CII rating to be derived and managed in real time. Users also can automatically create their EU MRV EmissionReportandIMODCSFuelConsumptionReport.

The results showed that 99% of HMM’s 67 owned

vessels, except for one bulk ship, received a rating from A to D, which is currently allowed for vessel operation. The one bulk ship under the E rating is expected to improve its CII rating by adjusting ship speed and using low-carbonbiofuel.

HMM’s CII rating has been primarily led by an 11.1% reduction in port dwell time for its containerships. The efforts on slow-steaming and installing more efficient propellers have also contributed to enhancing energyefficiency.

In addition, HMM will expand the use of premium anti-fouling paints to decrease ship resistance and will continuetopromotealternativecleanfuels.

An HMM official said, “Responding to climate issues and improving environmental capabilities are key to success for a sustainable future. We will be dedicated to moving faster and better preparing for stricter environmentalregulations.”

Britain sees improved momentum in latest round of India trade talks

NEW DELHI: Talks between Britain and India on a free trade agreement (FTA) have gained momentumbutfurtherworkisneeded onservicesandtariffstosecureadeal, a British source close to the negotiationswasquotedbyReuters.

Britainbeganfreetradetalkswith IndiainJanuarylastyearasitlooksto establish its credentials as an independent trading nation after leaving the European Union and is seeking an Indo-Pacific tilt to its foreignpolicy.

Talks had seemed stuck earlier thisyear,withthetwosidesstruggling to make progress in a number of key areas amid concern there could be

further political complications if talks drag on. Elections are expected in bothcountriesnextyear.

However, momentum has improved following the conclusion of the eleventh round of talks this week, the source said, allowing negotiators to turn to more commercially sensitive topics that are likely to be someofthemostdifficulttoresolve.

The Indian Government has said the talks are at a critical stage, and that Ministerial engagement during the round had helped to overcome obstacles in talks. The next round is expectedtocommenceinAugust.

SCI disinvestment: Due diligence underway : Finance Ministry

NEW DELHI: The Government has said that the due diligence process is underway in the strategic disinvestment of Shipping Corporation of India (SCI). In a written response to a question raised in the Lower House of Parliament, Minister of State (MoS) for Finance

Dr Bhagwat Kishanrao Karad said, “Preliminary Information Memorandum (PIM)/Expression of Interest (EoI) was floated on 22.12.2020. Multiple EOIs were received by the due date for submission (01-03-2021). The eligible bidders were shortlisted and due diligence process is underway in the secondstageofthetransaction.”

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) had accorded “in-principle” approval to the strategic disinvestment of the government’s shareholding of 63.75 percent in Shipping Corporation of India Limited (SCIL) along with the transfer of management control in November2019.

SCIDisinvestment

The process of strategic disinvestmentofShippingCorporation of India involves disinvesting governmentshareholdingofSCIalong with management control of the companytoastrategicbuyer.ThenoncoreassetsoftheSCIhavebeenhived off in accordance with a demerger

order dated February 23, 2023 issued by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs (MoCA) for its demerger/transfer to the demerged company — Shipping Corporation of India Land and Assets Limited (SCILAL), whichwillcontinuetobeagovernment company.Thesenon-coreassetswould not be transferred to the strategic buyerofSCI.

The strategic disinvestment process is based on an open, transparent, competitive bidding process where the QIBs participate and the sale price is discovered. Thenetvalueofnon-coreassets(land and buildings) of SCI in FY21 was Rs2,392crore.

Visakhapatnam Port focuses to promote Coastal Shipping

VISAKHAPATNAM:

Visakhapatnam Port Authority (VPA) is stepping up focus on coastal shipping in view of substantial coastal traffic being handledbytheport.

“We have excellent facilities and dedicated berth arrangements for coastal shipping. There is a synergy and ecosystem being developed post launch of PM Gati Shakti Yojana, with promotion of internal trade etc,’‘ Mr. Madhaiyaan Angamuthu, Chairperson,VPA said.

The coastal traffic handled at Visakhapatnam port constitute 26 to 30 per cent of the total traffic handled during the last two financial years. During FY23, VPA handled 73.75 millionmetrictonnes(MMT)ofcargo, out of which 31 per cent pertained to coastal. It was almost the same duringthepreviousfinancialyeartoo.

Thetargetforcoastaltrafficduring the current year set by the Ministry is 20 MMT and so far (during the first

quarter) the port handled 5.10 MMT of coastalcargo,asperVPAdata.

Promotingcoastalshipping

VPA has also aligned its policies and strategies for promoting coastal shippingthroughtheportlikepriority berthing facility for vessels under coastal run, concession in tariff for both vessel cargo related charges, dedicated cargo berth for handling coastal cargo with required back up storageyardfacility.

Broad policy initiatives being offered for promotion of coastal shipping include green channel clearance for coastal cargo through customs, exemption in customs examination of coastal cargo prior to shipment/landing and concession to an extent of 40 percent to coastal cargovessels,amongothers.

“Moreover,weareintheeconomic and energy corridor of the country withlocationadvantagetoo,”theVPA Chairpersonsaid.

They include reduction of GST on bunker fuel from 18 per cent to 5 per cent, licensing relaxation for some categories of special vessels, priority berthing policy for coastal vesselstoreduceturnaroundtimefor them and relaxation of CABOTAGE rulesforforeignvesselsforfertilisers, agricultural products and Export Importcontainersfortrans-shipment inIndiaoncoastalroutes.

It is estimated that a coastal shipping traffic of about 250 MMTPA can be achieved from current and planned capacities across coal, cement, iron and steel, food grains and fertilisers by 2025. Additionally, 125 MMTPA cargo is expected to be moved via inland waterways by the sameperiod.

Indian exporters on Amazon Global Selling see close to 70% business growth

BANGALORE: Indian exporters on Amazon's e-commerce exports programme Amazon Global Selling saw nearly 70 per cent year-on-year business growth during Prime Day, thecompanysaid.

The exporters from tier-2 and tier-3 cities grew from 40 per cent on year to up to 75 per cent on year, with Panipat emerging at the top in terms of exporter growth followed by Indore and Jaipur (55 pc y-o-y), and Erode (40 per cent on year).

The highest sale was grossed in thebeautycategory(125percenty-oy), followed by apparel at 122 per cent on-yeargrowth.

Products in "home" category registered 81 per cent on year growth followedby75percentonyeargrowth in furniture and 52 per cent growth in kitchen products, in the two-day sale event on July 11 and 12 this year, AmazonIndiasaid.

Japan emerged as a new highgrowth destination for exports as buyers from North America, Europe,

Middle East and Japan shopped for Indianexportproducts.

Government takes several measures to boost production and export of steel

NEW DELHI: The Union Minister of State for Steel Sh. Shipowners splash out $47 billion for LNG carrier newbuilds in 18 months : Clarkson Research

LONDON: With owners having racked up some $47 billion in investments in 18 months the race to order LNG newbuildings is set to continue. The figure for invesment in LNG carriers just eclipsed containerships with owners pumping in an estimated $46 billion for newbuildingsinthatsector.

Energy security, increasing cargo volumes, replacement demand, and infrastructure requirements, are key factors underpinning record investment in LNG carriers, according to analysis by Clarkson Research.

Despite dramatically higher new ship prices – up from $211m for a standard 174,000 m3 vessel at the start of 2022 to $261m today – LNG owners are pinning down the few

remainingslotsthatarestillavailable betweennowandlate2027.

The orderbook now stands at 331 vessels, 51% of fleet capacity, the analyst said in a recent report. Oneyear time charter rates for a 160,000 m3 dual-fuel diesel-electric vessel have remained consistently above $100,000 per day over the last 12 months. End-June rates stood at $120,000,Clarksonsaid.

Trade in LNG could reach 650m tonnes by 2030, up from around 390m tonnes today, although there are various scenarios. The strength of this energy sector looks certain to continue.

Wan Hai Lines drives Sustainable Development, signs Sustainable Performance-Linked Ship Financing with Standard Chartered

TAIPEI: Wan Hai Lines Ltd. (referred to as "Wan Hai") announced the completion of a 10-year NT$3 billion sustainability-linked shipping financing agreement with Standard Chartered Bank (referred to as "Standard Chartered"). This marks the first sustainability -linked shipping finance done by the container shipping industry in Taiwan. Wan Hai recognizes the impact of the shipping industry on the global environment and has set clear carbon reduction targets, committing to a 50% reduction in carbon intensity of its fleet by 2030 compared to the base year (2008). Additionally, Wan Hai obtained dual certifications in greenhouse gas inventory ISO 140641:2018 and GHG Protocol since 2022, with a 5.2% reduction in fleet CO2 emissions intensity compared to the previous year, representing a decrease of approximately 34% compared to 2008. The sustainability-linked shipping financing agreement withStandardCharteredisdesignedtolinkWanHai's fleet carbon indicators. Sustainalytics has been engaged as the Secord Party Opinion provider with the assessment result of “Very Strong” for KPI and “Ambitious” for SPT, in recognition of Wan Hai’s strong commitments to decarbonization beyond that required by IMO. While actively pursuing its own carbon reduction goals, Wan Hai supports environmentally friendly financial solutions and contributes to sustainable development. Wan Hai states that environmental protection and sustainable operation are core principles of the company. As a responsible shipping company, Wan Hai believes that taking proactive action is necessary. To this end, it continues to implement fleet renewal programs and investinenergy-efficientenginesandvariousenergysaving equipment. It closely monitors and analyzes data to improve fuel efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions.AllnewWanHaivesselsobtain"SmartShip Certification," which enhances ship safety and data management, contributing to energy-saving and carbon reduction environmental goals. To further accelerate carbon reduction, in 2022, Wan Hai established a project research team and actively engaged in close communication with engine manufacturers,classificationsocieties,andacademic institutions to conduct preliminary feasibility studies

on low-carbon/zero-carbon fuels. Wan Hai also participates in the Clean Cargo Working Group (CCWG), Getting to Zero Coalition, and Silk Alliance, strengthening the exchange of environmental knowledge,information,andtechnologywithindustry peers. By combining the rich resources and capabilities among members, they aim to reduce the risksassociatedwithenergytransitionandaccelerate decarbonization in the shipping industry. At the same time, in 2022, Wan Hai launched the tree planting and conservationproject,aimingtoplantandnurtureover 600,000 trees throughout Taiwan. Wan Hai also organize at least two beach cleaning events annually and provide green energy equipment subsidies to employees and underprivileged social welfare organizations, actively promoting environmental protection and sustainable development, making tangible contributions to Taiwan's ecological environment. Additionally, Wan Hai collaborates with Step30 International Ministries and the Love Binti International in the " Wells for African Villages Project" gradually digging 67 water wells in eight African countries, providing clean and safe drinking water for local residents, improving community living conditions, and alleviating poverty. Through these practical actions, they actively practice global sustainable development goals in clean water, sanitation, and poverty alleviation. Wan Hai is committed to practicing ESG sustainable management and has been selected as a constituent stock of the Taiwan Sustainability Index for six consecutive years. Asyad Group : Khazaen Dry Port inks agreement with Tanuf Water for high-quality storage and transport services

MUSCAT: Khazaen Dry Port (KDP), part of Asyad Group, signed a new service agreement with Oman’s National Mineral Water Company SAOG (Tanuf) to provide storage, transport and handling services through KDP’s top-notchfacilities.

With this agreement, Tanuf will capitalize on Asyad Group’s state-of-the-art integrated logistics ecosystem through KDP, reducing distribution times and logisticscosts.

Tanuf will also leverage KDP’s strategic location in proximity to Oman’s major consumer hubs, commercial ports and Muscat International Airport to optimize transportationandstorageoperations.
