“India’s RMG exports have shown strong growth despite continued inflationary pressure,” said Sudhir Sekhri, chairman of the Apparel Export Promotion Council (AEPC).

“Many major apparel-exporting countries have seen a slowdown in

RMG export growth in recent months.”

A r e p o r t b y C a r e R a t i n g s highlighted that if Bangladesh’s socio-political disturbances persist for more than one or two quarters, its garment exporters could face difficulties in meeting delivery d e a d l i n e s T h i s c o u l d o p e n opportunities for India to capture monthly export orders worth $200-250 million in the short term.

Indian exporters, with their operational efficiencies and backward integration, could potentially secure a permanent market share from Bangladesh, the report added The situation has paved the way for Indian exporters to strengthen their global presence.

Sekhri also announced plans to boost India’s apparel sector by participating in inter national fairs and hosting Bharat Tex 2025, a key industry event.

“We’ve held discussions with global brands, and their interest signals a strong intent to deepen ties with Indian exporters,” he noted.

Additionally, the AEPC will organize international roadshows in Spain and New York to promote Indian apparel, technology, and tradition.

Mithileshwar Thakur, AEPC’s secretary-general, emphasized India’s growing reputation as a preferred sourcing destination “Indian apparel exports have been logging impressive double-digit growth in recent months,” he said.

The growth is further supported by expanding markets in countries t h a t h a v e s i g n e d f r e e t r a d e agreements (FTAs) with India, providing a boost to the RMG sector

“FTA partner countries are driving market expansion and growth for India’s RMG exports,” Thakur added.

In the first quarter of FY 2024-25, real GDP grew by 6.7 percent, led by private consumption and a revival in investment, which reached its highest share in GDP since 2012-13. On the supply side, gross value added (GVA) expanded by 6.8 percent, outpacing G D P g r o w t h , w i t h s t r o n g contributions from industrial and services sectors.

On inflation, the RBI bulletin noted a sharp decline in headline inflation to 3.6 percent in July and 3.7 percent in August, but cautioned that September could see a rise due to adverse base effects and higher food prices. However, the Bulletin projected CPI inflation for 2024-25 at 4.5 percent, with expectations that food inflation will ease by the end of the fiscal year

For FY 2025-26, the bulletin projects GDP growth at 7.1 percent, with Q1 growth at 7 3 percent, assuming favorable weather and no s i g n i f i c a n t e x t e r n a l s h o c k s . It emphasised that risks to both growth and inflation remain evenly balanced.

Adani Group to build truck parking terminal on NH 66, easing congestion in Kozhikode

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:

A truck parking terminal will be constructed on National Highway 66, whichisbeingdevelopedintoasix-lane road. This terminal will be located between Vadakara Puthuppanam and Palolipalam, equipped with all necessary facilities for truck drivers However, the current challenge is the lack of available space for the project Officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) have indicated that efforts are underway to resolve this issue. Adani Builders, who are currently contracted to expand the road from Azhiyur to Vekkalam, will also take charge of constructing the terminal.

Once the site has been secured, NHAI will prepare and hand over the design to Adani Builders. This project marks the first instance of NHAI constructing a dedicated truck parking terminal in Kerala Truck owners and workers have long expressed the need for parking facilities along the Kozhikode bypass, as this area sees the highest influx of l o n g - d i s t a n c e g o o d s t r u c k s Unfortunately, no space is available on the bypass, prompting the decision to build the terminal near Vadakara. The facility will operate on a pay-andparking basis, although no further details about the project have been released yet.

Daily cargo arrivals highlight urgent need

Every day, cargo lorries from Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Punjab arrive in Valiyangadi at Kozhikode and surrounding areas. Due to the absence of dedicated facilities, many trucks are parked on the roadside, leading to traffic congestion Gas tanker lorries frequently halt at key points on the Kozhikode bypass, particularly at Thondayad and Ramanattukara L

Valiyangadi often stop in the south beach area of Kozhikode, leaving lorry drivers with no proper resting spots or restroom facilities.

PARADIP: After nearly a decade, the decks have been cleared for the 588 km national waterways-5 (NW-5) that would be developed for Rs 12,000 crore.

One of six primary national waterways in the country, the NW-5 will connect Mahanadi, Brahmani Delta, Matai river and East Coast Canal with the industrial belts of Kalinganagar and Talcher to provide an alternative mode of transportation.
