While sharing his opinion in his opening remarks Secretary, DPIIT, Sh. Anurag Jain said, ‘just in 4 years India’s infrastructure is many times better than before’. He also shared how PM GatiShakti NMP has revolutionized the Planning Process through digital surveys. It has helped in reducing time & cost in DPR preparation and infra projects, optimumutilizationoffinancialandhumanresources.

by the international and Indian Experts. She also mentioned that as an outcome of the workshop, a Task Force including members from NITI Aayog, Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MOSPI), National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER), academic experts and other stakeholders will be established for formulating a LogisticsCostFrameworkinatime-boundfashion.

The workshop witnessed participation from Shri Suman Bery, Vice Chairman, NITI Aayog; Member Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC PM) Dr Rakesh Mohan; Director General South Asia Department, ADB Mr. Kenichi Yokoyama, ADB senior functionaries, Senior academicians from international universities; senior officialsfromrelevantMinistries/Departments,andprivate sector representatives. In the workshop, views were presented on the importance of logistics cost calculation, as India enters a potential period of sustained growth and development. Academic minds presented existing global frameworks and models for calculation of logistics costs. The key speakers on the significant aspect of logistics cost assessment in the workshop were professors and academicians from Japan, Thailand, Korea and Industry experts. During the workshop it was discussed that there is a need for diagnosis on logistics cost in India, that includes among other aspects, parameters such as optimal transportation modal mix, packaging, warehousing and storage, other administrative and indirect costs. Sofar,44NetworkPlanningGroupmeetingsheldatthecentrallevel, wherein66majorinfrastructureprojectsworthRsRs5lakhcrore, have beenevaluated,thecommerceandindustryministrysaid.

The Network Planning Group (NPG) is constituted under the initiative. “156 critical infrastructure gaps to ports and for movement of bulk commodities such as coal, cement, fertilizers and foodgrains, have beenidentifiedforintervention,”itsaid.

To facilitate wider adoption of the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan, a series of regional workshops are being organized across all states/UTs. Union Minister highlights steps taken to facilitate export of Steel

NEW DELHI : Steel is a deregulated sector, and the role of the Government is that of a facilitator. Export of steel is dependent on factors such as global market conditions, demand and supply, cost of input raw materials such as iron ore, coking coal etc. which are market linked. Shripad Naik visits New Mangalore Port for review meet

MANGALURU : Minister of State for Ports, Shipping, Waterways and Tourism Shri Shripad Yesso Naik visited New Mangalore Port onMonday.

The Minister was welcomed by Port Authority Deputy Chairman K. G. Nath alongwithSeniorofficialsoftheport.Mr. Naik oversaw the berth operations and various infrastructural facilities of the port through a tug boat. Mr. Nath apprised the Minister about several infrastructural and technological advancementsharnessedbytheport.

India has made sustained efforts to achieve balanced trade with China: Govt

NEWDELHI-TheGovernmentofIndiahasmadesustainedefforts to achieve a more balanced trade with China, including bilateral engagements to address the non-tariff barriers on Indian exports to China,UnionMinisterRaoInderjitSinghtoldtheRajyaSabha.

Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Ministry of Planning and Minister of State in the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, further said “the Government has also taken measures in form of trade remedies (Anti-dumping, countervailing duty etc.) against unfair trade practices and formulated technical regulations and also issuedqualitycontrolorderstochecksubstandardimports.”

“Efforts have also been made to source critical supplies from alternate sources and sensitize the concerned Ministries Departmentstorampupdomesticcapacities,”saidSingh.

Asked whether the NITI Aayog has emphasized on the need to reduce India’s dependence on China, the MoS said: “NITI Aayog as the Government of India’s premier think tank, has been providing policy initiatives to support the Government of India’s goal of Aatmanirbhar Bharat including, promotion of exports of goods and services, addressing the trade deficit, reducing India’s dependence

onanysingleCountryforcriticalinputsetc.”

TheMinister’sreplycamealmostamonthaftertherevelationofa note issued following SBI Research pointing that India can reduce its dependence on China for imports to the extent of 10 per cent and add around $6 billion to its Gross Domestic Product over time by leveragingproduction-linked-Incentiveschemes(PLI).

The production-linked incentive scheme, which is a flagship offering of the Narendra Modi Government, has been touted as one which would eventually help make India a robust manufacturing machine and a credible alternative to China. The PLIschemesenvisageacumulative$21billioninvestment.

In March 2020, India had announced the PLI schemes across 14 sectors including automobiles, auto components and electronics amongst others at an outlay of Rs 1.97 lakh crore, under the ‘Aatmanirbhar’ Bharat mission.

The Government is planning to extend the PLI schemes worth Rs 35,000 crore to different sectors such as containers, electrolysers, power transmission equipment, etc.) to ensure manufacturingCAPEXcontinuestoremainelevatedbeyondFY26.

At present, VGF support is available for projects in metro and road construction, development of food grain silos, and settingupoftransmissionlines,amongothers.

But according to Shipping Ministry officials, VGF for Coastal Shipping will be required for companies such Shipping Corporation of India (SCI) which are in the business ofoperatingtheserviceontheIndiancoastlinetohelpdevelop thesector.

In her Budget speech, Finance Minister Smt Nirmala Sitharaman had said that coastal shipping will be promoted as the energy-efficient and lower cost mode of transport, both for passengers and freight, through the public private partnership(PPP)modewithviabilitygapfunding.

The Shipping Ministry has identified a potential of 340 million tonnes of cargo movement by Coastal Shipping per annum. But it requires commodities to be loaded onto trucks or rail wagons and then moved to the originating ports, from where a round of unloading and reloading on to the ships takesplace.

India should target $350 billion exports through e-commerce by 2030: GTRI

NEW DELHI : India should target USD 350 billion worth of goods export through e-commerce by 2030 and for that the government needs to address pain points of the sector by taking steps like formulating a separate policy, a report by economic think tank GTRI said. The Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI) said the current e-commerce export provisions in India are a patchwork over the rules framed for regularB2B(business-to-business)exporters.

India’s e-commerce exports have the potential to grow at a faster pace than its IT exports did in the early 2000s, it said. With Global business-to-consumer (B2C) e-commerce exports estimated to grow from USD 800 billion to USD 8 trillion by 2030, India’s strengths in high-demand customized products, expanding seller base, and higher profit margins per unit of export place it in a prime position to benefit from thistrend.

GTRI has identified 21 action points for accelerating the country’s exports through online medium. India’s current ecommerce export numbers remain far below their potential. Currently, e-commerce exports account for only USD 2 billion, less than 0.5 per cent of the country’s total goods export basket. “The country must plan to export USD 350 billion, or about onethird of its total goods, through e-commerce by 2030. This will require focus on developing the ecosystem for e-commerce exports to fully realize its potential,” the report said. It added that the current export provisions for the medium creates an enormouscomplianceburdenonsmallfirms.

To address such needs, the report recommends that the Government issue a separate e-commerce export policy. Such policies in countries including China, Korea, Japan, and Vietnam, have helped many firms sell globally. As the needs of the e-commerce export sector are vastly different from the regular export sector, the e-commerce export policy should be an independent document addressing all pain points faced by

exporters.

ItaddedthatthispolicyshouldbejointlyissuedbytheRBI, customs, and the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) after making necessary changes to their regulations. It should include provisions for business development, easing regulatory burden, and setting up a national trade network. The GTRI suggestions include redefining responsibilities of sellers; simplifying payment reconciliation and processes; developing business ecosystem; and setting up of a National TradeNetworkforthemedium.

Small and medium-sized firms rely on online platforms for global exposure and value- added services, such as timely payment assurance. However, it said that this conflicts with FEMA (Foreign Exchange Management Act) regulations as the platform is responsible for receiving payment, while the ownershipofgoodsremainswiththeseller.

Compliance procedures can be challenging for small sellers due to high sales volume. The report added that payment reconciliation is a major roadblock for third-party ecommerce exporters and the RBI guidelines for B2Bexports need changes to accommodate B2C exports. To simplify payment reconciliation, it suggested more time to receive export proceeds, lower restrictions on receipt of export proceeds, annual financial reconciliation process; and simplificationofforexpayments.

“India should focus on developing market intelligence, organizing training for artisans, and facilitating the fulfilment of export orders for high-potential product categories such as handicraft, jewellery, ethnic wear, decorative paintings, and Ayurveda,” report said. Regarding setting up the network, it said, this will bring together the RBI, Customs, DGFT, GSTN, India Post, courier companies, platforms like Amazon and eBay,andtheusertocreateacentraltechnologyplatformthat streamlinestheentireprocess.

Renault-Nissan alliance inks with Kamarajar Port

CHENNAI : The Renault Nissan Alliance announced signing an agreement with Kamarajar Port Ltd (KPL) for exports of its cars manufactured in Chennai to the regional andglobaldestinations.

In a press release, the automobile manufacturer said, the Renault Nissan Alliance was the first car manufacturer in the region to commence car exports through Kamarajar Port and the Alliance, over 13 years, had shipped over 1.15 million cars toaround108globaldestinations.

“The agreement builds on the existing partnership between the Renault Nissan Alliance and Kamarajar Port Ltd andwillfacilitatefurtherexportsofcarsviaKPL,”itadded.

A.P. Moller – Maersk launches Europe-China Air Freight Service to add further agility to customer supply chains

COPENHAGEN : Maersk announces the inaugural flight of the logistics company´s new air freight service with scheduled flights between Billund, Denmark (BLL) and Hangzhou, China (HGH). The new serviceisrespondingtoincreasingcustomerdemand.

The scheduled Eurasia operation will commence 20 March with three weekly flights introducing the first of three newly converted Boeing 767-300 freighters that have recently been added to the fleet of Maersk Air Cargo. All Europe-China flights will be operated by Maersk´s internalcargoairline.

Furthermore, Maersk’s newly opened air freight hub at Billund Airport in Denmark enables customers to avoid congestion and delays that are usually seen in larger airports. The airport facility in Billund houses a fully equipped, 4000 m² import and 13,000 m² export facility. Separate areas for cold storage, dangerous goods, scanning and ULD handling. The label sends real-time data about location and temperature over the mobile network. The customer receives an alert if the package is tampered with during transport. The unobtrusive design of the label increases security for valuable consignments as it does not draw attention,andthetrackingremainsundetected.

The disposable label is equipped with a lithium-free battery that emits less CO2 in production than conventional batteries and achieves runtimes of up to six months despite its small size. Due to its low weight, the label consumes less energy during transportation, and return shipping is no longer necessary. DB Schenker was oneofthefirstdesignpartnersofSensos,agroupcompany of the Sony Semiconductor Solutions Corporation, and contributed to the product offering. As part of this process, the global logistics service provider helped define requirements and tested the Sensos solution in a pilot phasewithlandandairfreightprototypes.

DB Schenker’s Internet-of-Things platform connect2track enables customers to monitor a consignment’s location and condition (e.g. temperature and humidity). It offers a continuously calculated estimated time of arrival based on real-time data, increased security through opening alarms and increased efficiencythroughsupplychainoptimization.
