India exports 5.62 lakh tonne of sugar till December 9: AISTA

NEW DELHI - India has exported 5.62 lakh tonne of sugar so far in the current 2022-23 marketing year that began in October,tradebodyAISTAsaid.In November, the government allowedtheexportof60lakhtonne of sugar in the current (2022-23) marketing year (OctoberSeptember).

According to the All India Sugar Trade Association (AISTA), the dispatches for exportsfromsugarmillswereat 12.19 lakh tonne, out of which physical shipment completed stood at 5.62 lakh tonne till December 9 of the current marketingyear.

A maximum of sugar has been

exported to the UAE, followed by Bangladesh, Indonesia, Somalia and others in the said period, it saidinastatement.

About5.22lakhtonneofsugar is under loading or waiting for loading,itadded.

India exported a record 111 lakh tonnes of sugar in the 2021-22marketingyear.

Global growth set to lose momentum due to tightening financial conditions: RBI Bulletin

MUMBAI - The Reserve Bank of India's(RBI)bulletinonTuesdaystated that the global growth is set to lose momentum due to tightening of financial conditions caused by monetarypolicyactions.

Another significant factor is the elevated and persistent inflation levels across countries as they grapple with food and energy price shocks and shortages.

"More recently, however, there are some signs of moderation in price

pressures, which have raised expectations of an easing in the pace of monetary tightening. Alongside easing in sovereign bond yields, the US dollar has come off its highs. Capital flows to emerging market economies (EMEs) remain volatile and global spillovers pose risks to growth prospects," the reportstated.

The global economy has been hit by multiple shocks which have led to globalisation of inflation, with advanced economies (AEs) facing multi-decadal

high inflation; sustained slowdown in economic growth and trade, together with rising concerns about a possible global recession and deteriorating global food and energy security situation.

It has also affected the realignment ofglobalsupplychainsandledtopolicyinduced deglobalisation. The emerging market economies (EMEs) have been facing an additional challenge from threatstotheirexternalsectorstability, asperthebulletin.

Apparel exporters eyeing Japan, Oz and Canada

NEW DELHI - Apparel exporters of TirupurandNoidahavestartedtapping the markets of Japan, Canada and Australiaamidfearsthatthedeepening downturn in the US and European Union-their main buyers-will hit their

trade, which recorded good growth last month. "Japan at present buys 5% of their apparel requirements from India. But with Covid again spreading in China, it is looking at alternative countries to source readymade

India’s overall oilmeal exports up 50% so far in 2022-23

NEW DELHI - India’s overall oilmeal exports so far during the current financial year – April to November – were 50 per cent higher year-on-year at around 2.39 milliontonnes,datacompiledbyvegetable oil industry body The Solvent Extractors’ AssociationofIndia(SEA)showed.

Oilmeals are basically the residue left over after the extraction of oil from oilseeds, and they are widely used as livestockfeed.

Till October, the total exports were at 1.97 million tonnes. In just November, exports of India’s oilmeals were provisionally reported at 407,193 tonnes,

up 150 per cent from 163,057 tonnes the samemonthlastyear,datashowed.

Currently, India is the most competitive supplier of rapeseed meal to South Korea, Vietnam, Thailand and otherfareastcountries.

The major consumer of Indian soybean meal is South East Asia, where India has a logistic advantage and also can supply in small lots. Also, Indian soybean meal being non-GMO has an advantage and is preferred by certain EuropeancountriesandtheUS.

“It is hearting to note during the first eightmonthsofthecurrentfinancialyear

(2022-23), the export of rapeseed meal has set a new record and broke the earlier highest record export of 12,48,000 tons in 2011-12 (F.Y.) and reported at 14,76,784 tons,” the industry body said in astatementattachingtheexportdata.

“(Also)Withfallinlocalsoybeanprice to level of Rs 5,500 per quintal, local soybean meal price also fallen to Rs 42,000 per ton which has made export moreattractive,”itadded.

Further, with a lower than-expected Argentine soybean crop and crushing, soybean meal export is expected to rise fromtheothernations.

Three more logistics parks to be awarded this fiscal

NEW DELHI - The National Highways Logistics Management Ltd (NHLM), a subsidiary of National Highway Authority of India, will award three more multimodal logitics parks (MMLPs) this fiscal, in addition to one suchparkbeingdevelopedinChennai.

The there new parks to be awarded in 2022-23 will come up in Indore, Nagpur, Bangalore, with investments of around Rs 758 crore, Rs 600 crore and Rs 936 crore respectively. The MMLP in Nagpur will be of 230 acre, Bangalore 400 acres and Indore 300 acres. The bidding for three MMLPs

willclosebyJanuary,theofficialsaid.

TheGovernmenthaddecidedtoset upasmanyas35MultiModalLogistics Parks, at a total capital cost of Rs. 50,000 crore. The plan is to be award 15 oftheseprojectsinthreeyears.

“Wearewellontracktohandover4 MMLPs this year to developers as targeted.Wearetargeting5parksnext fiscal -Coimbatore, Hyderabad, Pune, Anantpur. We will complete the DPR process for these 4 parks by March 2023,”hesaid.

The Ministry of Roads Transport and Highways awarded the contract

of setting up India’s MMLP near Chennai to Reliance Industries (RIL) last month. Including Chennai MMLP, total 4 multimodal logitics parks will be handed over to the developers this fiscal. In already awarded Chennai MMLP, Reliance will invest around Rs 788.52 crore.

On December 15, the NLHM issued a notice cancelling the bid process without assigning reasons for Banglore MMLP to be built in Muddalinganahalli in rural Bangalore. It floated a fresh tender later.

Cargo evacuation through Mormugao Port hit as residents protest truck movement

PANAJI - Evacuation of bauxite and coal cargo by road from Union government owned Mormugao Port has ground to a halt since 15 December as residents oppose the movement of these commodities by trucks through Vasco city citing pollution concerns, multiple sourcessaid.

“Some1,00,000tonnesofbauxitecargo belonging to customers such as Hindalco Industries Ltd and UltraTech Cement Ltd (both owned by the Aditya Birla Group) are lying inside the port. The agitating residents are not allowing any material to move by road through the two export-

import gates of Mormugao port. About 30,000-40,000 tonnes of cargo were expected to be moved out of the port by road in the last three days. The port will soonfacealogjam,”aportofficialsaid.

“It’s strange that some 10-15 people have managed to stop cargo evacuation from the port by road completely for the last three days. The State government machineryisnotdoinganythingtoresolve the situation which is a law-and-order issue,”hesaid,askingnottobenamed.

Bauxite cargo arriving at the port on big ships are moved to the customers premisesbyroadonly.About10-20percent

of the coal shipped through the port is evacuated by road and the rest by rail, which has not been affected by the agitation.With rising focus on cruise ship movements, the port authorities decided that bauxite and coal movements through Gate No 1, which is closer to the cruise terminal at the port, will be stopped and such cargo will be fully diverted through Gate No 9 when a cruise vessel is docked at the port. Evacuation of cargo through Gate No 9 by trucks involves travelling a 1.5 km stretch inside Vasco city to connect to the nearest highway, triggering the protestfromresidents.

Iranian delegation to visit India for final talks on Chabahar

TEHRAN : Iran’s Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) says it willsendadelegationtoIndiawithinthe next week for final talks on India’s longterm presence in Iran’s port of Chabahar.

PMO’s CEO Ali Akbar Safayi said thatanewdealonIndia’sportactivityin Chabahar will consider key issues like investment and increased transit of cargo via the port, which is located on theSeaofOmaninsoutheastIran..

“The Iranian team will travel to India next week (starting Saturday) for a final decision on the long-term deal,”

saidSafayi,addingthatIranisseriousin its intentions to work out a long-term agreementwithIndiaonChabahar.

He said disputes between Iran and India about activity in Chabahar have been discussed and resolved during eight months of negotiations that were heldaspartofajointworkinggroup.

India is currently contributing to Iran’s development plans for Chabahar under an agreement signed in 2016. However, Iranian authorities have not been satisfied with the pace of work carried out by Indian companies in Shahaid Beheshti Terminal in

Chabahar.TheIndianshaveblamedthe USsanctionsimposedonIranin2018for the slow pace of work in the port. That comes as India has secured a waiver from the sanctions for its specific activityinChabahar.

Thetwocountriesarenowinsearch of a broader agreement on Chabahar that could lead to a major increase in cargotransitviatheport.

Experts say increased activity in Chabahar will facilitate trade between the Indian Ocean and Afghanistan, landlocked countries in Central Asia andwithRussia.

India to sign balanced FTAs with the EU, UK, Canada, Israel and Gulf countries : MoS Commerce

NEW DELHI : India has signed free trade agreements (FTAs) with key trade partners and is finalising a ‘balanced’ FTA with the EU, UK, Canada, Israel and the Gulf countries, Minister of State for Commerce & IndustrySmtAnupriyaPatelsaid.

In her address at EEPC India’s 37th Western Region Award Presentation, the minister added the FTAs are being signed to provide better market opportunities to the country’s exportingcommunity.

“WehavesignedFTAswithmanyofour key trading partners. We have the Comprehensive Economic Cooperation and Partnership Agreement (CECPA) with Mauritius, the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with UAE, and the Economic Cooperation

and Trade Agreement (ECTA) with Australia. All these are with an objective of providing better market opportunities to our exporting community,”Patelsaid.

Mentioning about the government’s recentdecisiontowithdrawexportduty onspecifiedsteelitems,Patelsaidthat the move would provide a fillip to the domestic steel industry and boost exports.

EEPC India Chairman Arun Kumar Garodiasaidthatthesecondhalfofthe ongoing fiscal may see some recovery in global trade even as the global geopolitical and economic scenario looks somewhat cloudy at present driven by the Russia-Ukraine war and economicinstabilityinNorth-EastAsia andEurope.

“Despite the remarkable comeback of

the engineering exports in 2021-22, some threats are still in sight. The pandemic-led uncertainties have not yet fully waned off, oil prices are alarmingly high while geopolitical issues in some regions are adding fuelstothreats,”henoted.

He added that the exporting community is currently facing some domesticissuesthatcouldhamperthe growth of exports in the time ahead.

“Inordertoensurethecurrentpaceof growth of engineering exports in the yearstocome,wehavesubmittedaset ofrecommendationsforconsideration of the government,” the Chairman said, adding that the engineering sector growth would immensely contribute towards India figuring among the top 3 nations in G20 in termsofGDP.

DP World's Trade Finance : Over $600 million in credit limits received

DUBAI : Efforts to close the $1.7 trillion annual global trade finance gap are gaining traction, especially in the small-to-medium-enterprise (SME) sector, with DP World announcing that its platform has received requests for more than $600millionincreditlimits.

MOL and GAIL to Strengthen Partnership

…Sign Time Charter Contract for Newbuilding LNG Carrier and Joint Ownership of Exisng LNG Carrier

TOKYO- Mitsui O.S.K. Lines, Ltd.(MOL) and GAIL (India) Limited (GAIL;Headquarters: New Delhi), a central public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of Indian and India's largest gas utility and gas supply company, through a wholly owned MOL subsidiary signed a time charter contract for a newbuilding LNG carrier and a joint ownership of an existing LNG carrier on December20th.

The new building vessel will be the second MOL Group LNG carrier serving GAIL; the parties signed a contract for the first vessel in 2019(Note).

The existing vessel still has been chartered to GAIL through a wholly owned MOL subsidiaryfrom2021andeven now, MOL's shipping service ishighlyregardedbyGAIL.At this time, MOL and GAIL reached an agreement to share the vessel by transferring a portion of a wholly owned MOL subsidiary'ssharestoGAIL.

By strengthening MOL andGAIL'spartnership,there will be synergies that will make us to providemorereliableservices,andthis will lead us to extend our services even further against the demand that will growinthefuture.
