NEW DELHI: The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has further eased customs procedures to allow export of goods to Bangladesh railcontainersuchtoshipmentwhenfacilitycontainers(RFID)throughInlandWaterways.RadiofrequencyidentificationsealswillbeusedtoensurethatonceclearedatacustomsinIndiaarenottamperedwiththeyareshiftedtoavesselforthroughwaterways,accordingacircularfromtheCBIC.TheindirecttaxauthoritysaidthatexportswillbeclearedataninlanddepotfortransportbyroadortothegatewayportinKolkataor
interventions can be made. Further, it also helps in reducing the logistics costs.On vision of building logistical efficiency in the Country, he opined, we’re looking at four key areas. First is capacity enhancement in terms of infrastructure, transportation, warehousing and packaging. Second includes rationalizing time consuming processes which are leading to inefficiencies and increasing the cost of logistics. NEW DELHI: The Steel Ministry, along with the Commerce Ministry, has reportedly initiated the process to review export duty and a phase-wise removal is being mooted, those aware of the development said. The Ministry is said to be in favour of removal of duty on stainlesssteelinthefirstphase.Asperaninternaldocument / presentation of the Steel Ministry at a meeting on September 5, it was pointed out that stainless steel is an exportdependent item and its numbers could improveifdutyisremoved.However,HRcoilsand CR coils –two key items that have been driving steel export numbers – should not be immediately opened up as it might lead to increase in domestic prices, the

BRUSSELS: The World Customs Organization (WCO) and the World Health Organization (WHO) signed an updated Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) enhancing the existing cooperation between the two organizations.BackinJuly 2002, the two entities had signed and implemented a MoU. Some 20 years on, and in the light of developments in international trade, the need to amend the initial agreement became apparent, particularly to take more effective account of the current challenges concerning trade facilitation, as well as the proliferation and complexity of criminal activity involving tobacco products, medicines and medical equipment.Setagainst the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic and its major health, economic and social implications worldwide, this updated MoU is now broader in its scope.
