JNPA inaugurates premises for Custom Broker Fraternity facilitation at Centralized Parking Plaza

NAVI MUMBAI:

In line with the significant contribution to enhance the speed of clearance of export cargo, Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) has provided operating space for Customs Brokers (CB) at the Centralizedparkingplaza(CPP).

While addressing the audience during the inauguration ceremony, Shri Sanjay Sethi (IAS), Chairman, JNPA conveyed that it was a landmark achievement in trade facilitation measures and the ultimate aim is to reduce the dwell time for clearance of export cargo as well as the transactioncost.

NEW DELHI: Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and Textiles, Shri Piyush Goyal has said that PM GatiShakti National Master Plan has the potential to save over Rs. 10 Lakh Crore annually by improving logistics efficiency. APM Terminals Pipavav strengthens its position as the port of choice by receiving a block train from ICD Panipat

• The port received the first block train for Maersk carrying the consignment of their customer D.D. Internaonal Private Limited from ICD Panipat

• The new service operated by DP world will help the hinterland customers to connect with the global markets

PIPAVAV: APM Terminals

Pipavav, one of the leading gateway ports in Western India received the first full block train for D.D. International Private Limited. The train was flaggedofffromICDPanipatinthefirstweekAugustand reached the port within 2 days. The block train is operated by the DP world for Maersk to transport the cargoforD.D.InternationalPrivateLimited.

APM Terminals Pipavav is well connected to the varied belts in north-west hinterland via rail connecting the hinterland customers to the global markets. The new service further strengthens port’s connectivity to hinterland. The containers carrying rice are destined forJeddahandDammamintheMiddleEast.

The train was flagged off by senior representatives of Maersk. The occasion was graced by the Senior Management from the train operator/terminal staff, andtheport.

Centralized Parking Plaza is by far one of the strategic location which handles factory sealed containers in a seamless manner for the trade activities. Deputy Chairman JNPA, Mr. Unmesh Wagh expressed his gratitude to the Customs Brokers community for remarkable contribution towards trade activities and welcomed to extensively use the world class facilities beingprovidedatCPP.

Shri Dushyant Mulani, President of BCBA stated that this was a positive step to improvise and speed up the clearance processes and the endeavour of our Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modiji by announcing the National Logistics Policy (NLP) will get boost and efficiency since Customs brokers will be able to operate 24x7 in a conducive environment at CPP. This will surely help the trade to achieve outstanding results with competitiveness.

Domestic expertise in items of huge global demand key to make India $5 trillion economy: FIEO CEO Ajay Sahai

NEW DELHI: Identifying and building domestic capabilities of those items which have huge global demand will expedite India’s journey to a $5 trillion economy by 2025, according to Dr Ajay Sahai, DG & CEO of the Federation of Indian Export Organisation(FIEO).

Currently, 70 percent of India’s exports are targeted to a segment of products that have 30 percent of global demand, Dr Sahai pointed out while speaking via online mode at an eknowledge session themed ‘Foreign TradePolicy:Export-ImportPotential& Prospects’organisedbyMCCI.

He mentioned that the Centre’s Product Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme, aimed at boosting domestic

manufacturing, is covering all these sectorswhichwillbeagame-changerin thecomingdays.

The FIEO CEO emphasised the need for more FDI in the large-scale manufacturing sector for India’s success to export performance and this can only happen if investors get little comfort of relocation. He highlighted the need for branding of the products and very minuscule of India’s exports areinitsownbrand.

There is a need for a 3-tier strategy structure in this regard he underscored and suggested that each association couldbegivenatasktobrandaproduct.

“There is a huge opportunity for India to integrate itself into global value chains (GVCs). Currently, only

Automobiles, gems & jewellery, and pharmaceuticals are in the GVC, we need to bring in more products in GVC goingforward,”hesaid.

FTAs with the complimentary countries in which there is a market for India’s products must be encouraged and the Government of India is taking noteworthymeasuresinthisarea.

He said that the ECTA with Australia will be operational by DecemberorJanuary.

He further added that R&D and ProductInnovationsarekeytoexports.

There is a tremendous opportunity for India to take advantage of the global scenario as Russia requires everything in which India has a comparative advantage.

E-way bills shoot up to record high

NEW DELHI: Electronic permits for transporting goods within and across states (e-way bills) shot up to a record high of over 84 million in September, signalling a strong boost to economicactivityinthefestiveseason.

Theincreaseine-waybillsalsopoints to further improvement in goods and servicestax(GST)receiptsinOctober.

GST revenue receipts in October will be reported on 1 November. Official data available from Goods and Service Tax Network, the non-profit company that processes GST returns, showed that over 84 million e-way bills were generatedinSeptember.

E-way bill generation, which had seen a spike in March this year, leading toarecord-highGSTcollectionofnearly

Rs. 1.69 trillion in April, has since remainedmoreorlesssteadyandsawa furtherpickupfromJune.

Experts said festive demand is at play. “In our view, the uptick in GST e-way bills implies manufacturers expect healthy festive demand. What remains to be seen is whether the positive sentiments sustain. There is an element of pent-up demand of two years that is supporting spending this festive season,” said Aditi Nayar, Chief EconomistatratingagencyICRALtd.

Besides festive demand, tax authorities’ tracking of economic activities, including business-tobusiness transactions, is helping improveGSTcompliance.

The trend of improving trade in

goods is in line with the manufacturing PMI data for September from S&P Global, which indicated an improvement in the health of the manufacturing industry, with companies stepping up production in tandem with a sustained increase in newworkintakes.Therateofexpansion remained historically high despite easing from August, S&P Global said on 3 October while reporting manufacturing PMI at 55.1 in September, which was in expansion territory for the 15th month in a row, callingitasolidrateofgrowth.

The Minister referred to the Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for North East Region (PM-DevINE) scheme launched yesterday and said that by dovetailing PM GatiShakti into the scheme would help utilize resources much more efficiently. PM GatiShakti is a transformative approach for integrated and holistic planning across concerned Ministries/Departments to improve multimodal connectivity, and logistics efficiency and address critical gapsfortheseamlessmovementofpeople,andgoods,with a focus on minimizing disruptions and ensuring timely completionofworks.

It provides for an integrated platform, the National Master Plan, where all the economic zones and their multimodal connectivity infrastructure are depicted, along with physical linkages to promote a comprehensive and integrated multimodal national network of transportation and logistics to create efficiency gains and avenues for further developments, value addition and creatingemploymentopportunities.

Over 1300 Inter-Ministerial issues were resolved in the 11 months through the PMG Portal integratedwiththeNationalMasterPlan.

The Minister also launched the Logistics Ease Across DifferentStates(LEADS)2022surveyreport. TheLEADS is an indigenous data-driven index to assess logistics infrastructure, services, and human resources across all 36StatesandUts.

By engaging with various end-user stakeholders, the LEADS acts as a feedback mechanism on the existing logisticcapacitiesanddrawsrecommendationsforfurther improvement. The LEADS further uses the feedback evaluation to classify States on the scale of logistics ease currentlypresentamongthem.

The LEADS 2022 has garnered more than 6500 responses from more than 2100 respondents across the Country. Unlike the previous versions of LEADS which were based on ranking systems for all states, LEADS 2022 has adopted a classification-based grading, states have been now classified under four categories viz Coastal States, hinterland/landlocked States, North-Eastern States, and Union Territories. For the assessment of how wellaStateorUThasperformedincomparisontotheTop State/UTwithinthespecificcluster.

Three performance categories namely, Achievers: States/UTs achieving 90% or more percentage, Fast Movers: States/UTs achieving scores between 80% to 90%, and Aspirers: States/UTs achieving percentage scoresbelow80%havebeenmade.

The LEADS 2022 survey report would assist PM GatiShakti National Master Plan (PMGS-NMP) and National Logistics Policy (NLP) to perform a network mapping of logistics infrastructure, services, and regulatory environment enabling State Governments to identify and fill the gaps and achieve data-driven multimodal connectivity. LEADS continues to act as a guiding & bridging mechanism for the identification of interventions enhancing logistics efficiency at State/UTs.

Overall imports in September 2022 are estimated to be USD 76.26 Billion, exhibiting a positive growth of 10.73 per cent over the same period lastyear.

India’s overall exports (Merchandise and Services combined) in April-September 2022* are estimated to be USD 382.31 Billion, exhibiting a positive growth of 21.03 per cent over the same period last year. Overall imports in AprilSeptember 2022 are estimated to be USD 469.47 Billion, exhibiting a positive growth of 37.77 per cent over thesameperiodlastyear.

MERCHANDISETRADE

• Merchandise exports in September 2022 were USD 35.45 Billion,ascomparedtoUSD33.81 Billion in September 2021, exhibiting a positive growth of 4.82percent.

• Merchandise imports in September 2022 were USD 61.16 Billion, which is an increase of 8.66percentoverimportsofUSD 56.29BillioninSeptember2021.

• The estimated value of services exportforSeptember2022isUSD 25.65 Billion, exhibiting a positive growth of 18.72 per cent vis-a-vis September 2021 (USD 21.61 Billion).

• The estimated value of services import for September 2022 is USD 15.10 Billion exhibiting a positive growth of 20.00 per cent vis-à-vis September 2021 (USD 12.58Billion).

• The services trade balance in September 2022 is estimated at USD 10.56 Billion, which is an increase of 16.94 per cent over September2021(USD9.03Billion).

• The estimated value of services export for April-September 2022 is USD 150.43 Billion, exhibiting a positive growth of 27.88 per cent vis-a-vis April-September 2021 (USD117.63Billion).

• The estimated value of services importsforApril-September2022 is USD 89.13 Billion exhibiting a positive growth of 34.54 per cent vis-à-vis April-September 2021 (USD66.25Billion).

• The services trade balance for April-September 2022 is estimated at USD 61.30 Billion as against USD 51.39 Billion in April-September 2021, which is anincreaseof19.30percent.

Exports further consolidates on back of major export product categories showing progressive growth trend: FIEO

NEW DELHI: Reacting to the Trade Data for the month of September, 2022, Dr A Sakthivel, President, FIEO said that the September goods exports further consolidates on the back of 17 major product export categories including petroleum products, electronic goods, gems & jewellery, drugs & pharmaceuticals,organic&inorganic chemicals and agri products showing progressive growth trend. The growth in exports of electronic goods on a sustained basis is a good sign besides growth in exports of gems & jewellery and petroleum products. President, FIEO said that while it is very early to forecast anything as of now. However, we should not draw

solace from the fact that exports of most of the economies are facing contraction but this is a stark reality. President, FIEO said that the coming few months would be quite challenging unless the geopolitical situationimprovesdrastically.

However, the decline in imports is encouragingdespitethehugejumpin import of coal and transport equipment. We hope that the energy prices will come down further providing more relief to us on the tradedeficit,opinedFIEOChief.

Dr Sakthivel added that in the current situation, the focus should be on providing liquidity at competitive cost to the export sector and therefore, RBI may consider opening

export credit refinance facility to bankssoastoencouragethemtolend to the export sector with refinancing from RBI at the Repo Rate. Since the interest rates have moved upward and are now more than the pre-covid level, there is a strong case to restore the Interest Equalization support to 5% and 3% respectively as existed prior to the covid period. Moreover, the Government should look into the request of the export sector for continuing with IGST exemption on freight on exports, which lapsed on 30th September, 2022, particularly as the freight rates are still at much elevated level and GST on such freight will affect the liquidity of the exporters,thoughrefundablelater.

PIL implements 1st Electronic Bill of Lading

SINGAPORE: A firm supporter of digitalisationtoaddvaluetoitscustomers, Pacific International Lines (PIL) recently successfully implemented its first electronic Bills of Lading (eB/L), using CargoDocs, for a leading international constructionengineeringcompany,basedinIndia.

PIL transported the shipment comprising iron and steel structures from India to UAE aboard the Uru Bhum within two weeks. The new digital process facilitated the fast deliverytime,offeringthecustomeranefficientandsmooth experience.

Withouttheneedtosendpaperdocuments,PILe-signed the B/L and issued it electronically to the shipper. The supporting documents were then digitally transferred to the cargo receiver. At arrival, the shipment was swiftly dischargedafterPILacceptedandverifiedtheeB/Lagainst originaldocuments.

PIL also has several ongoing customer-focused digital initiatives including e-Service platform myPIL and the PIL mobileapp.
