Shri Narendra Modi on Saturday said that the ‘PM Gatishakti NationalMasterPlan’hasimproved connectivity to even the remotest areaswithintheCountry.
During the second day of his twoday visit to the southern states, while dedicating various developmental
projects to the nation. Prime Minister addressed the people of Ramagundam. “The PM Gatishakti National Master Plan has improved anddevelopedconnectivitytoeventhe remotest areas within the country. India has developed the latest technology for Nano Urea which is cost-effectiveandefficient,”Modisaid.
Along with this, PM Modi also underlined the positive impact of people’s participation (Jan Bhagidari) and said, “The New India of the 21st century fixes a target and achieves it within a minimum span of time due to the dedication of the Government and people’sJanBhagidari,”hesaid.
VARANASI: India is eyeing cargo handlingbytheprivatesectortojump to 85% by 2030 from 56% now as it implements the National Monetisation Pipeline, Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal said recently. Total cargo handled at ports stood at 1251.38 million tonnes in 2020-21. He added the Government wants the private sector to operate more jetties andterminalsandisopentorestoring financial support for inland waterways.
The goals are very feasible if you consider the progress in the
last eight years. Up to 2013-14, cargo handling capacity of inland waterways stood at only 16 million tonnes per annum (mtpa). In just eight years, it has risen to 109 mtpa. This massive growth has been possible because the government paid attention and developed infrastructure. Private sector was also taken on board by sensitising them about using the rivers. Cargo handling capacity has significantly increased in coastal shipping, maritime trade, mainline shipping and via inland waterways. Development of
competitive infrastructure and bringing down logistics costs is a key focus area for the Government.
On National MOnitisation Plan in Shippingsector, hesaid,TheShipping Ministry's target under asset monetisation is Rs. 12,550 crore for 2022-23. Our goal is to ensure that the cargohandlingcapacityoftheprivate sector grows under the plan. Private sector handles 56% of the total cargo at present. This is expected to increase to 85%. We would also want the private sector to operate more jettiesandterminals.
VARANASI: The PM Gati Shakti initiative would help accelerate transportation, cut logistics cost, and bring synergy among Ministries, Commerce and Industry MinisterPiyushGoyalsaidrecently.
The PM GatiShakti - National Master Plan (NMP) was announced last year with an aim to break departmental silos and bring in more holistic and integrated planning and execution of projects with a view to addressing the issues
related to multi-modal and last-mile connectivity. It aims at promoting integrated planning and synchronised implementation of infrastructure projects across the Country.
Goyal said the objective is to transformconnectivityinfrastructure inIndia.
It would bring synergy among the ongoing infrastructure projects undertaken by different Ministries and several Ministries of the
Government have been brought on one platform under this mission, he saidataneventinVaranasi.
"This program will result in seamless connectivity across the country, benefittingtheindustry, trade as well as the common man. It will cut downlogisticcostsandreducethetime of transportation of goods. Land records have also been added under this scheme, which will accelerate the speedy completion of anyproject,"headded.
NEW DELHI: In a big embarrassment to the Tata Group over a game changing infrastructure project, the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Ltd (DFCCIL) has terminated a contract given to Tata Projects Ltd for constructing a crucial 102 km-long last mile stretch of the Western dedicated freight corridor from Vaitarana to Jawaharlal Nehru Port in Maharashtra, citing delays in layingthetracks.
“The contract given to Tata Projects for the Vaitarana to Jawaharlal Nehru Port section has been terminated,” said a DFCCIL official.
The contract termination will delaythemuch-delayedcompletionof the 1,506 km-long Western DFC linking Dadri in Uttar Pradesh with Jawaharlal Nehru Port in Maharashtra by at least two years or till December 2026. Moreover, the scrapping of the contract will bar Tata Projects Ltd and its consortium
partners from participating in future tenders of DFCCIL or other government entities for two years, pertenderconditions.
The Express Freight Consortium led by Japan’s Mitsui & Co Ltd and comprising State-owned IRCON International Ltd and Tata Projects was awarded contracts by DFCCIL for civil and track works between Jawaharlal Nehru Port in Maharashtra and Makarpura near VadodarainGujarat,in2016and2017.
The 422 km-long stretch was split into three packages – Tata Projects was given the contract for the 134 km stretch from Makarpura to Sachin in Gujarat, IRCON International got the 186 km long section from Sachin in Gujarat to Vaitarana in Maharashtra andTataProjectswonthe102kmlong end stretch of the DFC from Vaitarana to Jawaharlal Nehru Port inMaharashtra.
IRCON International and Tata Projects will jointly carry out civil engineering work and lay tracks,
using high-quality Japanese-made rails.
Mitsui & Co is the Project Management Consultant (PMC) for theentire422kmstretch.
Till date, DFCCIL has commissioned a little over half of the 1,506 km long Western dedicated freight line and is hoping to commission the stretch up to VaitaranabyDecember2023.
But the Vaitarana to Jawaharlal Nehru Port section – the most troublesome part of the project –is now expected to be completed by 2026.
DFCCIL will have to retender the section or take a decisionabout doing the work on its own, the DFCCIL officialmentionedearliersaid, adding that the project will be delayed by at least two years due to the culling of thecontractgiventoTataProjects.
Tata Projects has approached the court seeking a stay on the termination which has not been grantedsofar.
