The National Maritime Heritage Complex will serve as a monumental tribute to India’s ancient maritime h i s t o r y, b r i n g i n g t o l i f e t h e technological advancements, trade routes, and cultural exchanges that our ancestors pioneered,” he added.
The Union Cabinet in October approved the development of the National Maritime Heritage Complex ( N M H C ) a t L o t h a l , G u j a r a t
The project will be completed in two phases. The Cabinet also accorded in-principle approval for Phase 1B and Phase 2, as per the master plan, by raising funds through voluntary r e s o u r c e s / c o n t r i b u t i o n s a n d executing them after the funds are raised The construction of the Lighthouse Museum under Phase 1B will be funded by the Directorate G e n e r a l o f L i g h t h o u s e s a n d Lightships (DGLL).

NEW DELHI: India has reduced its tariffs significantly over the years, bringing them down to the world average level, yet the domestic industries continue to suggest increasing the duties, a senior G o v e r n m e n t o f f i c i a l s a i d o n Wednesday Secretary in the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade Amardeep Singh Bhatia said that it needs to be examined why such requests come.
“On the export market side and integration with the (global) supply chains, there is also a lot of work which has been done in terms of reduction in tariff, the weighted tariff has come down substantially and it is almost at the world average level But of course, there are pressures that it should be increased by the domestic industry, which we need to look at why these requests keep coming up. Why are we notcompetitiveenough,”hesaid
I n d i a h a s a l s o f r e e t r a d e agreements with different countries
to push exports.
The Secretary was speaking at CII’s Global Policy Forum 2024.
Cut in customs duties on raw materials help boost domestic manufacturing, create jobs and push exports.
Tariffs have been reduced in different sectors such as electronics, precious metals and chemicals.
He added that the Viksit Bharat 2047 targets would lead to enhanced investments in the private sector such as clean energy
The Government has taken a series of measures to promote ease of doing business in the country
“A lot has been done in the industrial infrastructure space There are more than 4,000 industrial parks in the country,” Bhatia said, adding some states are doing good in making available land for industrial purposes.
“We will have consultations and see what more can be done (at the land front),” he said.
Some states like Tamil Nadu have put in place “very good” practices like putting in place land pooling systems to bring more industrial land, the secretary said.
Speaking at the session, Rakesh Bharti Mittal, Vice Chairman, Bharti Enterprises (India), said that the high cost of doing business in India bothers the industry and more needs to be done to promote ease of doing business at the states’ level as things on the ground do not move the way it should. On this, Bhatia said that the Business Reforms Action Plan (BRAP) is there to assess the work of states at the ease of doing business.
“There are about 280 reform actions identified and are part of the BRAP We have a bucket of good practices which we share with all…Odisha and Telangana have good single-window systems. So things are happening.
Obviously there are gaps and much more can be done at the states’ level,” he added.
LONDON: In its latest market report Braemar said that it had expected 2024 overcapacity to reach 12-13% in this year, up from around 9% in 2023, but the Red Sea diversions quickly put paid to that projection.
“ I n 2 0 2 4 o v e r c a p a c i t y w a s significantly suppressed, despite significant fleet growth. We estimate vessel overcapacity in 2024 will be in the region 3-4%,” said the Braemar report, written by researcher Jonathan Roach, “Despite underlying overcapacity, the high level of uncertainty surrounding Cape of G o o d H o p e t r a n s i t s h a s understandably enticed a surge in newbuilding investment in 2024,” he added.
In 2025 the deliveries of new vessels will again raise the capacity oversupply, said Braemar, “even allowing for Red Sea avoidance, oversupply is expected to increase from 3-4% in 2024 to 7-8% in 2025,” said the broker
Estimates of the the actual amount of capacity set to be delivered varies, but to Dynamar analyst Darron Wadey puts the number at around 220 vessels are scheduled to be delivered totalling around 1 9 million teu, representing a vessel growth rate of 3%, but a capacity increase, without scrapping, of 6%.
“It is unlikely that demand will grow at anything like the same rate as the 6% capacity,” said Wadey Consultancy MDS Transmodal has calculated the current fleet
stands at 29,483,380 teu, with some 1,817,706 teu to be delivered next year, however, MDS also calculated that over 3 million teu will be 20 years old or over by the end of 2024.
According to Braemar 100 vessels scheduled for delivery are in the neoPanamax sector, 14,000-18,000 teu, while a further 75 ships between 7,500 and 10,000 teu make up the bulk of the expected deliveries. A further 44 mega-ships, in excess of 18,000 teu are on order, with 31 ships in the 10,00014,000 teu sector
Flexibility appears to be the major driving force in the ships arriving from shipyards next year, perhaps reflecting the uncertainty in the market.
Wadey, also highlights that uncertainty with the supply and demand equation has “luckily kept in
check” by the diversion of vessels around the African Cape, rather than transiting the Red Sea and Suez.
“Should that situation resolve itself, what are we to do with all those s h i p s s u d d e n l y s u r p l u s t o requirements that are already on the water?” Asks Wadey, “And then, what are we to do with all those ships that are scheduled to come? Organic demand will come nowhere near enough to fill the freed up and new capacity.”
HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh Government has approved the Maritime Policy 2024 with a target to achieve at least one port ranked among the top 20 global ports and to attain 20% of total cargo handled by all Indian Ports by 2047.

N E W D E L H I : A l o t o f infrastructure is being created by the Government to support the logistic sector, now we have a CAGR of more than 16% in the warehousing market, said Shri Rajat Kumar Saini (IAS), CEO & MD, National Industrial C o r r i d o r D e v e l o p m e n t Corporation (NICDC) at PHDCCI’s Food Logix and Warehouse Summit & India Cold Chain Conclave 2 0, scheduled from 5th to 7th December 2024 took place during the Warehouse, Logistics & Cold Chain Expo.
Mr. Saini further discussed about ULIP, which brings all the logistics data of customs, Sarathi, Vahan, 18 ministries, and 35 data systems under one platform and said it will remove bottleneck and streamline the operations He added, we the Government encourage the private sector to use this data and drive solutions for supply chain issues.
Mr Saini also appreciated the creation of logistics as a separate sector and the contribution of multiple stakeholders over the last 10–15 years
He highlighted the National Logistics Policy of 2022 and its alignment with the vision of the
Hon’ble Prime Minister. The current problems are not related to any particular agency or state, and this initiative is open to every stakeholder to collaborate on multiple issues, concluded Mr Saini.
Dr. Surendra Ahirwar, Joint S e c r e t a r y, D e p a r t m e n t o f Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce & Industry (DPIIT) discussed on the need for defining each stakeholder’s responsibilities within the logistics sector. He further discussed that there isn’t much clarity among different stakeholders in the supply chain, though they have a definite role. Logistics is a defined sector that permeates every industry and supply chain.
He further added, we launched two major initiatives, PM Gati Shakti M a s t e r p l a n a n d t h e N a t i o n a l Logistics Policy in 2021 and 2022 respectively These initiatives have defined the components and scope of the sector and made logistics a strong focus area Development of digital infrastructure in logistics is another important step and under the National Logistics Policy, a significant initiative is the sectoral plan for
efficient logistics, focusing on physical and digital infrastructure and manpower.
In the coming days, we will introduce a PPP initiative by the Government, where industries will have a significant role to play Along with this, there will be a sectoral plan specifically for the food and agriculture sector Another very
e-marketplace We are working on t r a n s f o r m i n g U L I P i n t o a marketplace, initially targeting the B2B segment. Everyone who requires services will be able to procure them in a transparent and speedy manner. The Government is playing a leading role, and we have high expectations from the industry and startups to help improve the efficiency of the logistics sector, added Mr Ahirwar
Shri Rubal Jain, Chair, Logistics Committee, PHDCCI informed that the dual themes of today’s summit, one focused on smart logistics and the other on innovation in the cold chain sector are intertwined in a way that allows us to rethink how we operate, innovate, and meet the needs of consumers while safeguarding the planet.
