In addition, PSA Mumbai has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) to cooperate on reducing emissions in the area via nature-based solutions. The MOU was signed by Mr Sanjay Sethi, IAS, Chairman of JNPA and Mr Wan CheeFoong,RegionalCEOofMiddleEastSouthAsia and Head of Group Business Development, PSA International.
PSA Mumbai is targeting a 50% reduction in its 3 carbon emissions by 2030 Other major initiatives underway to achieve this target include the large-scale electrification of its equipment fleet, including the deployment of an all-electric Rubber-tyred Gantry Crane (RTGC) fleet for its Phase 2 development. Electrification of all existing RTGCs in Phase 1 is underway and will be completed by 2027. Through a combination of further investments, plant expansion and purchases of green power, PSA Mumbai aims to eventually be fully powered byrenewableenergy.
Another exciting development is the potential to create a zero Scope 1 emission rail corridor from PSA Mumbai When the electrified Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) rail link reaches Jawaharlal Nehru Port, a container from a vessel alongside PSA Mumbai could be moved with zero Scope 1 emissions via its DFC-ready railyardallthewaytotheNationalCapitalRegion(NCR) and 59 ICD destinations currently served by rail from the terminal.
At the ceremony, Mr Wan Chee Foong, Regional CEO of Middle East South Asia and Head of Group Business Development, PSA International, said: “Investing into
our own large-scale solar farm together with our other greentransportinitiativesunderscoresourcommitment towards sustainability Our partnership with O2 Power for this renewable energy facility is a major step towards meeting our carbon emissions reduction targets and providing the market with leading sustainable transport options. By expanding our renewable energy access, accelerating equipment electrification and reducing emissions in other areas, we aim for PSA Mumbai users tobeabletoaccessazeroemissionscorridorthroughthe terminal and beyond. We also look forward to working with JNPA on exploring nature-based solutions for emissions reductions in the area, which will benefit both peopleandplanet.”
Mr Parag Sharma, Founder and CEO of O2 Power, said: “O2 Power takes pride in supporting PSA in its net zero journey We are certain that this marks the beginningofalongassociation, andhopetobringgreater value for PSA in the near and long term as we continue exploring opportunities across multiple areas The support of the Government of Maharashtra and of the Government of India has been monumental in the fostering of a regulatory environment that has established a direct relationship between energy consumers and power developers for the former's green energy needs. It will accelerate India's emergence as a power economy in the global arena Further, it will facilitate India's goals of achieving 500 GW by 2030, and of making 50% of the country's power consumption from renewablesby2030astrongreality.”
Mr Sanjay Sethi, IAS, Chairman of JNPA, added: “JNPA is delighted to witness PSA Mumbai taking major steps towards emissions reduction with this project. JNPA is committed to fostering leadership in sustainability and creating value for the trade especially through our Green Port initiative. We also aim to contribute to the principles of Blue Economy and Maritime India Vision 2030 I am excited that PSA Mumbai will be able to achieve the Maritime India Vision 2030 target of having 60% renewable power usage by 2030 six years early. With over 34% of the Jawaharlal Nehru Port area under green coverage, we welcome PSA Mumbai’s initiatives to tackle climate change through solutionsthatharnessthepowerofnaturalecosystems.”

CBIC : Camera-fitted jacket mandatory for Customs officials handling Sea Cargoes
NEW DELHI : Customs officials clearing cargo at sea ports will now sport jackets fitted with Body Worn Camera with video and audio recording facility The Central Board of Indirect Tax and Customs (CBIC) has made it mandatory for all boarding officers engagedinseaCustoms,startingfromApril15.
This will improve transparency and ease of doing business through leveraging technology, the Central Board of Indirect Tax and Customs said in a circular sent to all Principals Commissioners and Chief Commissioners ofCustoms.
The CBIC issued Circular No. 07/2022-Customs dated March 07, 2023 regarding the Boarding functions for Improving transparency using a boarding Jacket fitted with Body Worn Camera (“BWC”) having a video/audio recording facility by BoardingOfficer
Kind attention of field formations is drawn to relevant instructions in the Customs Preventive Manual 1987, Circular No. 36/95-Cus dated April 10, 1995 and 25/2016-Customs dated June 23, 2016 whereby Board had issued guidelines relating to boarding of vessels by Customs Officers
It is well known that all vessels arriving into the country report their arrival to the Customs and Port authorities. The Boarding Officer/s are usually the first to set foot on any vessel entering the Indian frontiers and they are the cutting-
edge functionaries of the Customs Service whose visibility extends to the shipping lines, terminal operators, logistic partners, custom brokers, businessmen, crew members /passengers, etc. The Boarding Officer acts as an Ambassador of our Country and is expected to seamlessly initiateandconductcustomsformalitiesandprocedures.
Keeping the above as an objective, and continuing with various reforms undertaken by Customs through leveraging technology so as to improve transparency & ease of doing business, to present more professionally the role of the Boarding Officer, keeping scope for upfront evidence in case of an offence or likely offence, and enhancing the protection of interest of the Customs Officer against frivolous complaints, the Nhava Sheva and AhmedabadCustomsZones, hadimplemented, sinceAugust 2022, the sporting of boarding jacket fitted with Body Worn Camera(BWC)withvideo/audio recording facility byBoarding Officerswhilecarryingoutdutiesonboardthevessels.Copiesof the JNCH Standing Order No. 10/2022 dated August 11, 2022 and Ahmedabad Customs Zone Standing Order No. 03/2022 datedAugust12,2022, areforreference
Based on the feedback received from these Zones, the Board has now decided to extend the use of boarding jackets fitted with Body Worn Camera (BWC) with video/audio recording facility by Boarding Officers while carrying out duties on board vessels from April 15, 2023 with respect to the sea customs functions.

Time for Indian products to be the best in quality Globally : Piyush Goyal
MUMBAI : The Union Minister for Textiles, Commerce and Industry, and Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Shri Piyush Goyal attended the Export Awards function organized by The Synthetic & Rayon Textiles Export Promotion Council(SRTEPC) inMumbairecently.
Addressing the industry, the Commerce and Industry and Textiles Minister said that “we have to study each Free Trade Agreement and understand requirements of other countries better. “Export Promotion Councils should open offices in other countries, such as in locations like Dubai. We have to thinkout-of-the-box.”
The Minister told the industry that we need to give special attention toquality.“Thetimehascomeforour quality to be the best in the world. This is the demand of consumers in India and across the world as well. The time for coming out with two different types of quality – domestic quality and export quality – is over. 2,000 products will come under Quality Control soon. Weneed tostop using low-quality products. Weneed to increaseourscale, focusonquality.”
The Minister observed that it is perhaps for the first time that the Prime Minister himself met with Export Promotion Councils and discussed the way forward including export targets. “Following last year’s record exports, this year, based on figures
available till now, we are confident of crossing 750 billion dollars ofexports.” TheMinister saidthatitisamatter ofpride forusthatdespiteglobalheadwinds, wewouldbereachingthis target.
The Minister said that unlike games like cricket, the state of business and industry is now such that the paradigm is one of win-win. “The Trade Agreement between India and Australia is a unity agreement, the two economies are very complementary. While Australia imports most manufactured goods, we get many of our raw materials like critical minerals from Australia. NEW DELHI - SOURCEX INDIA 2023 organised by FIEO from March 9-11, 2023 was inaugurated at New Delhi. Dr A Sakhtivel, President, FIEO addressing the gathering at the inaugural of the mega event said that the event is aimed at promoting Indian brandsintheinternational market, whichisa significant step towards realizing the vision of our Hon'ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, of making India a global manufacturing hub. He added that with India’s rising prominence in the global export markets coupled with growing international opportunities, offers immense scope for Indian brands to expand internationally in multiple verticals. He said that despite global headwinds Indian exports will give an additional USD 100 billion over anabovewhatwasachievedin2021-22.
Smt Anupriya Patel, Hon’ble Minister of State for Commerce & Industry in her key note address complimented FIEO for organising Sourcex India 2023 to promote Indian brands Globally. She said that the event marks a significant milestone in Government of India’s efforts to promote and support the Indian business communityonaglobalstage.
The Hon’ble Minister mentioned that the Indian economy is one of the fastest-growing economies in the world, and with the increasing globalisation of trade, there is immense potential for Indian businesses particularly brands to expand their footprint in the international market. The Government of India has been taking several measures to promote exports and ensure that Indian products are of global standards. Initiatives like Make in India, Digital India, Skill India and Start-up India, have created a favourable environment for entrepreneurs to thriveandgrow.
India's merchandise and services exports combined in thecurrentfinancial yearendingMarchwillbeclosetoUSD 760-770 billion, Union Minister for State for Commerce and Industry Anupriya Patel added. The country's merchandise and services exports stood at USD 672 billion in the last fiscal.
She added that Sourcex India 2023, is focused on taking
this agenda forward. The event is providing a unique platform for Indian businesses to showcase their brands & products, and interact with buyers from all over the world. This event is a testimony to the Government of India's commitment tosupportIndianbusinesses, andpromotethe MakeinIndiainitiative.
Earlier during his welcome address, FIEO DG&CEO, Dr Ajay Sahai said that Branding is key to promoting exports in niche segment and insulating against price sensitivity. He suggested that a 3-tier strategy should be adopted to promote brands. The Government should promote India as a brand with a laid down strategy. Product specific councils/associations should promote product as a brand as is being done by Californian Almonds Association for Calfornian Almonds. Companies should develop their own brands, which may require substantial investment for liberalfinancingmaybeextended.
Shri Khalid Khan, Vice President, FIEO while proposing Vote of thanks mentioned that the importance of brands in the export business is irrefutable and is one of the most important aspects of the success of any international business. During recent times, marketing innovation has become essential for businessmen to remain competitive, build brand loyalty and drive revenue growth. He expressed his gratitude to the support extended by the Ministry of Commerce andIndustryinorganising Sourcex India2023to focus on the relevance and importance of brands, and is hopeful that this event will result in promoting Indian brands overseas and will bring a new paradigm shift in India'sexports.
Exports getting impacted despite drop in freight charges due to global slowdown
INDORE - Despite a drop in freight charges, exports across most sectors have failed to match last years’ levels in the corresponding period amid currency fluctuations and a slowdowninglobaldemand, hittinghomemanufacturers.
Exporters said freight rates across most shipping lines havedroppedbyatleast40percentinoveramonth.
The decline in demand from the overseas market has hit most industries while Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises engaged in the exports of pharmaceuticals, engineering and processedfoodhavetakenasharphit.
Paresh Chawla, Chairman, Indian Drug Manufacturers’Association,MPStateBoard said, “Export is a cause of concern in the pharmaceutical sector due to instability in currency and tepid global demand. The drop in foreign reserves in countries has made exports difficult.” Indore is a hub for drug manufacturers engaged in the production of ointments, tablets, syrups and syringes among otheritems.
Another drug manufacturer Ajay Singh Dassundi said, “The decline in export orders has hit businesses but an increase in government purchases has lifted the domestic market. Raw material prices have also started coming down and this is reviving the profit margins.”
Locally made engineering products have also seen a drop in demand due to lack of price parity in the international market amid high cost of imported accessories.
Industry players said freight rates have come down by around 40 per cent on most lines and this is seen supporting exports from India in the long run.
A senior executive from a packaging films manufacturing industry said, “Exports are about 10 per cent down as against the corresponding period last year because of lack of price parity in the international market. Freight rates have dropped by atleast 40 percent from the covid-19 period but still exports have not matched last year’s level.

IMPORTER'S GUIDE
HAMBURG : Hapag-Lloyd reached the milestone of equipping 100,000 of its reefers with a monitoring device, a target that was set with the start of the rollout in 2020. With this, Hapag-Lloyd has made a very large part of its reeferfleet"smart".
Andrea Schöning, Senior Director Container Steering, says :"I am really proud of how our colleagues on sitehavebeendoingtheirjob.Inparticularovertherecent months they have pushed our depots installing the monitoring devices. While we continue to install in the field, finding the remaining ones in the fleet is getting trickier and trickier. We target to exceed the 90% fleet installationmarkduringtheupcomingconstructionphase ofnewreefercontainers."
Currently, new-built containers are being equipped with tracking devices directly upon completion in the factory, andthecontainersinourfleetareequippedduring the regular Pre-Trip- Inspection (PTI) process by depots. Biggest installation locations are Hapag-Lloyds own reefer depot in Rotterdam with more than 12.000 installations since start of the rollout, followed by depots Belgian Container Maintenance in Antwerp (4.700 installations) and Tercon Terminal de Contenedores in
Guayaquil,Ecuador(4.300installations).
Today, we are already using the data from our 100,000 reefers to monitor our fleet for any incidents that may damagethecargosuchaswrongtemperaturesetpointsor technical alarms. Through this, our local teams handle up to2.000incidentseverysingleweektoreducecargoclaims andimprovetransportquality.
In summer 2022 Hapag-Lloyd also launched “Smart Pre-Trip Inspections” for reefers. With this we are replacing traditional physical machinery checks of the reefer in the depot with data driven validation of the reefer’s condition. This will enable us to reduce costs and make reefers available for customers faster as they do not havetowaitforaPTIinthedepot.
The Hapag-Lloyd LIVE commercial product usage is quickly scaling up. In February 2023 alone our customers purchased the service for more than 6.000 reefer containers, and we forecast for 2023 full year to be able to sell it on more than 50.000 units. It has proven to be a unique selling point for our reefer customers, keeping us ahead of competitors. By August 2023, the company plans to have 90% of its reefer containers equipped with monitoring systems. By the end of the year, all HapagLloydreeferboxeswillbesmart.

Paris - Three major groups are joining forces to fight climate change and launch the European Clean Transport Network Alliance (ECTN Alliance), a concrete solution to decarbonize road freighttransport.
Mobilizing the expertise of its founding members—CEVA Logistics, ENGIE and SANEF—the ECTN Alliance envisions building and operating a network of truck terminals with low-carbon energy solutions to transport merchandise along Europe’s motorways. The disruptive system will be tailored to electrictrucks’limitedrangeandchargingrequirements.
Long term, the terminal network will be open to all shippers and carriers, offering simple access to lowcarbon biogas, hydrogen and electric energy solutions for charging and refueling trucks. Strategically placed on European motorways, the network will include a specific IT solution to enable transport companies to plan their routes and charging schedules in the fastest and most carbon-efficientway.
In addition, the concept aims at improving working conditions for long-haul truck drivers by allowing them to remain closer to their homes, as they will be swapping trailers at each terminal before turning back. ECTN’s solution will ultimately make the trucking industry more
attractive and help alleviate the European truck driver crisis. The Alliance will conduct a proof of concept (POC) in 2023 between the Lille and Avignon metropolitan areas in France to demonstrate the feasibility of the concept beforedeployingitonaEuropeanscale.
The two-year proof of concept will start in 2023 to demonstrate the ECTN model’s effects on long-distance road haulage. A dedicated fleet of 20 low-carbon tractor units (a mix of biogas, electric and green hydrogen) will transport 20 trailers each day between the north and southeast of France, relaying and changing trailers at five testsiteslocatedatexistingCEVALogisticslocations.
Local carriers will carry out the pre- and post-carriage transport to and from the test sites. The POC is expected toprovidearichdatabaseforanin-depthunderstandingof low-carbon truck use for long-distance haulage and options for decarbonizing road freight transport in Europe.
Luc Nadal, Regional Managing Director for Europe, CEVA Logistics, said: “ECTN Alliance members strongly believethatprivate–publicallianceshaveakeyroletoplay in accelerating climate solutions. The ECTN Alliance is based on a pioneering, holistic approach to decarbonizing long-haul trucking. We are proud to launch this bold initiative with best-in-class companies, whose combined expertisewillcontributetothesuccessoftheproject.”
