Subsidiary Speedy Multimodes renews contract with Central Warehousing Corporation for six years
MUMBAI: Allcargo Terminals, a part of the Allcargo Group and a leader in India's extensive CFS-ICD network, has recently renewed its subsidiary Speedy Multimodes' partnership with Central Warehousing Corporation (CWC) Mundra.
This renewal, secured through a six-year agreement with CWC, ensures the continued industry-leading services at its Container Freight Station (CFS) in Mundra. As one of two strategically located facilities operated by Allcargo Terminals in Mundra, it is well-equipped to provide flexible solutions and the required capacity to meet the rapidly growing Export Import trade demands at this key port.

NEW DELHI : The Ministry of Commerce and Industry recently held inter-ministerial discussion with stakeholders from the Shipping Industry, Customs, Concor, Railways, Exporters, Freight Forwarders and other logistics sectors on issues related to trade from ports.
Commerce and Industry Minister Shri Piyush Goyal tweeted that the meeting had witnessed discussions on opportunitiesfortheindustry&possible areas for betterment, including efficient
container movement for greater integration into the global economy to meet India’s export goals While no container shortages have been reported due to subdued demand, terminal handling charges were a key topic of discussion. Concerns were raised about dry ports and Inland Container Depots (ICDs) being underutilised as goods increasingly m o v e v i a r o a d A d d i t i o n a l l y, the industry flagged instances of shipping lines charging fees higher
than those levied by ports.
Last week, the Minister stated that India’s exports are projected to exceed $800 billion in the current fiscal year, a 2 8% increase compared to $778 billion in the previous year. Highlighting challenges such as the Red Sea crisis and its impact on shipping lines, he noted that exports to developing and least-developed countries (LDCs) have been affected by the ongoing forex crisis since the COVID-19 pandemic
Shri Goyal urges Indian companies to focus on innovation and high-quality nutritious products to strengthen food security
NEW DELHI: India has the potential to reach $100 billion of combined exports in the Food & Beverage (F&B), agriculture and marine products industries in the next five years. This was stated by Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, Shri Piyush Goyal during his keynote address at an interaction with the F&B industry stakeholders on the sidelines of Indusfood 2025 in New Delhi. He emphasised that the target is not very ambitious as the industries need to grow at a combined rate of 14-15%.
The Minister said that the success of the 8th edition of Indusfood 2025 is a matter of great satisfaction for the Government and complimented Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) and Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) for organising the event. He added that both the organisations have played a crucial role in India exporting $50 billion of goods last year

The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce & Industry, will play a pivotal role by organizing sessions and media panels to highlight various aspects of India’s growth story.
India’s impressive economic growth continues to capture global attention, with significant strides across key sectors, solidifying its position as a leading player on the world stage The countr y has a c h
t o n e , surpassing $1 trillion in foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows since April 2000. This accomplishment is further highlighted by a nearly 26% increase in FDI, which reached $42.1 billion in the fiscal year's first half. This upward trajectory underscores India’s growing appeal as a prime destination for global investment, driven by strategic policy initiatives, a thriving business ecosystem, and enhanced international competitiveness.
NEW DELHI: India could find itself in the crosshairs if a global trade war breaks out following Donald J. Trump’s inauguration as President of the United States later this month,on 20th To safeguard its interests, India must reassess its trade relations with the world’s largest economy and prepare for potential challenges.
Delhi-based think tank Research and Information Systems (RIS) has compiled extensive data on bilateral trade flows, commodity-specific trends, and a detailed analysis of India-US trade relations to guide strategic policy shifts.
The study highlights that India is the ninth-largest contributor to the US trade deficit, accounting for 3.8% of the $1.3 trillion deficit. In comparison, China tops the list with a 30.2% share, followed by Mexico, the European Union (EU), and Canada.
Despite India’s relatively modest contribution to the deficit, US trade officials have expressed concerns about limited market access in sectors critical to American interests. Donald Trump, in recent remarks, has also pointed to India’s high tariff bar riers, hinting at potential reciprocal measures by the US. While India’s share of the deficit is comparatively small, its vast d o m e s t i c m a r k e t r e m a i n s a n attractive prospect for American trade ambitions.
On exports, the study notes the consistent rise that has led to the creation of a trade surplus over the last two decades. Despite some dips
along the way, it found that growing exports led to the trade surplus increasing more than five-and-a-half f o l d b e t w e e n 2 0 0 3 a n d 2 0 2 3
Describing it as an extraordinary rise, the think-tank has also pointed to a decline recorded in the years immediately following the presidency of Trump and Joe Biden. Attributed to fresh policy initiatives at the time, these brief reversals were followed by a resurgent upward trajectory in subsequent years.
The resilience of India’s exports, despite the policy shifts introduced by successive US administrations, lies in its proactive strategies such as unilateral tariff hikes, WTO dispute references, and other calculated inter ventions. These dynamic measures have effectively cushioned the adverse impact of US trade policies, offering hope that similar r e s p o n s e s c a n a d d r e s s a n y forthcoming trade challenges through carefully calibrated bilateral trade adjustments.
A key area of concern is India’s significant export surplus in final consumer goods, which could
potentially become a target in any trade disputes. In 2023, exports in this category stood at $26.6 billion compared to imports of $2.9 billion. High-value items such as precious m e t a l s , s h r i m p , t e x t i l e s , pharmaceuticals, and milled rice dominate this segment.
India-US bilateral trade in 2023 was valued at $117 8 billion, with imports at $42 billion and exports at $75.8 billion, resulting in a surplus of $33.8 billion. This surplus has been achieved despite challenges such as tariff hikes on steel and aluminum and the withdrawal of duty concessions under the Generalised System of Preferences during Donald Trump’s presidency Indian exporters have shown remarkable adaptability, retaining their competitive edge in the face of these obstacles.
The RIS policy brief, ‘Trade, Tariff and Trump’, advises caution in initiating a trade war but suggests strategic responses, including:
•Imposing retaliatory tariffs on select imports like fruits, nuts, mineral fuels, andironandsteelproducts
•D i v e r s i f y i n g c r u d e o i l procurement sources to counter rising costs.
•Leveraging WTO mechanisms f o r d i s p u t e r e s o l u t i o n w h i l e simultaneously exploring new export markets.
By balancing assertive measures with strategic diplomacy, India can navigate potential trade tensions while safeguarding its economic interests.

NEW DELHI : India is poised to retain its position as the world’s fastest-growing large economy, with a projected GDP growth rate of 6.6 per cent in 2025, according to the World Economic Situation and Prospects 2025 (WESP) Report released by the United Nations on Thursday (9 January)
Hamid Rashid, UN Head of Global Economic Monitoring, highlighted India’s robust economic trajectory, emphasising, “India would again be the fastest growing large economy in the world.”
Key Projections
The report forecasts India’s economy to grow slightly faster at 6.8 per cent in 2026, following a robust 6.6 per cent growth in 2025.
The sustained growth is attributed to strong private consumption and investments, bolstered by capital expenditure on infrastructure, which is expected to yield significant multiplier effects in the coming years.
Additionally, the report highlights India’s strong export performance, particularly in pharmaceuticals, electronics, and services, as key contributors to economic expansion.
Manufacturing and services sectors are also expected to play a pivotal role in driving growth during the forecast period.
output expectations for 2025, with increased summer-sown crop areas.
Investment growth remains robust in South Asia, driven by domestic and foreign investments in supply chains, particularly in India, Indonesia, and Vietnam.
Ination and Employment Trends
Consumer price inflation is projected to decline from 4.8 per cent in 2024 to 4.3 per cent in 2025, comfortably within the Reserve Bank of India’s target range of 2–6 per cent.
Employment indicators have remained strong, with labour force participation near record highs
Urban unemployment stood at 6.6 per cent in 2024, marginally lower than 6.7 per cent in 2023.
Global and Regional Context
Global economic growth is forecast to remain steady at 2.8 per cent in 2025, with modest improvement to 2.9 per cent in 2026.
However, China’s growth is expected to moderate to 4.8 per cent in 2025 due to a shrinking population and rising trade tensions, threatening its medium-term prospects.
The UN cautions that risks to India’s growth remain, including geopolitical tensions, slowing external demand, and vulnerability to climate hazards. The projections from the UN came as the first advance estimates project India’s GDP growth for FY25 at 6.4 per cent, the lowest in four years, though still a global standout.
