NEW DELHI: Exports of 16 States have trebled since the introduction of One District One Product – Districts as Export Hub (ODOP-DEH) initiative by the Government, according to a reportbySBIResearch.
These states include Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Punjab, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Telangana, UttarPradeshandWestBengal.
Among these States, Gujarat led the exports tally in the financial year 2021-22 with $126,805 million exports comparedwith$27,159millioninFY19. Maharashtra took the second spot with $73,120 million exports in FY22 as against$22,986millioninFY19.

Various factors such as exports of
finished or intermediate goods, push from Production Linked Incentives scheme,andmulti-yearhighcommodity and food prices are contributing to this exportgrowth, itadds.
States with export infrastructure and export preparedness are capturing the momentum provided by the ODOP-DEH initiative, says SBI Research.
Services exports should be given a more prominent place under ODOPDEH, the report says. “So far, services identified for export promotion are very few and only pertain to Tourism, IT/ITES. Indian Economy is service based and around 55% of GDP coming fromservicesector,”itsays.
Focus of ODOP-DEH on GI products is good, however, it can additionallyfocusmoreoncapitalising on raw materials and intermediate goods for integrating in global value chains, thereportfurthersays.
“GovernmentofIndiaisontheright path for targeting massive export growth with the launch of new logistics policy and One District One Product –District Export Hub (ODOP-DEH)

NEW DELHI : The National Logistics Policy launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on September 17 is going to boost employment in the $200 billion logistics sector (according to McKinsey Global Institute in 2000) as the industry is inching towards $320 billionby2025.
The policy aims to reduce the cost of logistics in India to be comparable to global benchmarks by 2030 and endeavour to be among top 25 countries by then. The role of manpower is going to be very critical toachievethat, sayindustryofficials.
R Dinesh, Executive Vice Chairman, TVS Supply Chain Solutions&PresidentDesignateof CII for 2022-23 was quoted as saying that, “I believe at least a million jobs with specialised skill sets like, data analysis, business intelligence, realtime technology application could be createdinthenext3-5years.Thiswill also help create a new value proposition for the youngsters of today.”
The policy will help make India a global hub for skilled resources in the supply chain sector. Further, it will
uplift India to be a compelling choice for global companies to outsource knowledge-based jobs in the supply chainsectoraswell, hesaid.
Agreeing with Dinesh’s views, AjoyThomas,VP&BusinessHead, TeamLease Services Ltd, a recruitment firm, was quoted as sayingthatmorethan2.2crorepeople in India rely on the logistics industry for their livelihood, and a large influx ofnewworkersisanticipated.
The supply chain’s back-end operations and planning are where India is really starting to shine as a global powerhouse. It is a great chance to be at the forefront of providing skilled labour to meet the demands of international supply chains. This can only be accomplishedifboththeNationaland State Governments are equipped to the teeth with state-of-the-art technology, hesaid.
The policy is going to transform thelogisticallandscapeofthecountry andisexpectedtobethenextbigstep in making India ‘Atma Nirbhar’. Will this big step help India Inc. reach the $5trillionmark?Onlytimecantell,he added.
It is important to recognise that thelogisticssectorhasemployedover 20-25millionpeopleacrossjobrolesin tier 1, 2 and 3 cities and continues to create job opportunities for the unorganised workforce in India. Three major improvement programmes – Mission Gati Shakti, The Sagarmala and The Bharatmala along with skill development programmesforworkersinthesector have created a vast number of opportunities for both skilled, semiskilled and unskilled workers, said Sanjay Shetty, Director –Professional Search & Selection and Strategic Accounts, Randstad India, arecruitmentfirm.
The New Logistics Policy will help companies recover from the setbacks faced in the past two years and hire more workers to meet the growing demand for transport, digital warehousing, supply chain managementandalliedjobroles.
The average salaries will see a hike between 10-12 per cent in the nexttwoyearsduetotheintroduction of drone deliveries and other disruptive technologies in the logisticssector, saidShetty.
