M U M B A I : The Board of Allcargo Logistics limited has approved the plan to acquire 38.87% stake from its partners at an enterprise value of Rs 373 crores With the acquisition, Allcargo Logistics will take its stake to 100% in the contract logistics business. The acquisition reflects the group's vision for robust growth by creating an effective synergy between contract logistics and express distribution.

The acquisition price is based on the agreement that was signed with ACCI JV partners in 2016 and with tremendous growth in this business over the years, this proves to be a highly value accretive acquisition.

Commenting on the contract logistics acquisition, Mr. Shashi Kiran Shetty, Founder & Chairman, Allcargo Group said, "This important acquisition will offer us management control and facilitate strategic decision-making.

Our Mumbai terminal – also known as Gateway Terminals India (GTI) – is continuing its major Fit for Future project, which will see the terminal increase capacity by 10%, to 2.18 million TEUs (Twenty Foot Equivalent Unit).

Massive infrastructure upgrades will mean the terminal – India's busiest – will have the reach to handle the largest vessels that call Nhava Sheva's Jawaharlal Nehru port with the arrival of 23-container-outreach cranes.

This will help us enhance service delivery capabilities to drive growth. The business has witnessed robust growth over the years diversifying into several new industry segments. We can also expect more synergy between contract logistics and express distribution to further strengthen group’s position in the fast-growing express and contract logistics space.”

Allcargo’s Contract logistics business is engaged in managing inventories and providing third party supply chain solutions to marquee Indian and international customers across chemical, auto, e-commerce and other industries. The business has a total space of over 5 million square feet under its management and reported an EBITDA of ₹ 31 Cr for the quarter Q3 FY22-23.

In addition to this, the impending acquisition of KWE’s

stake in Gati will enable closer collaboration between the two businesses thus enabling them to be in a better position to leverage each other's strength with Allcargo buying out entire stake of partners in both businesses.

The board also approved sale of smaller non-core customs clearance business. Allcargo Logistics will sell its 61.13% stake in this business for an enterprise value of approx. ₹ 42 Cr. Further, the company declared an interim dividend of ₹3.25 per equity share for Fy23. Commenting on the overall developments, Mr. Shetty, added, “We continue to exit non-core businesses and consolidate our core businesses Post demerger of Allcargo Terminals and Trans India, which has already received NCLT approval, the company shall now have two distinct business segments under International Supply Chain & Express & Contract Logistics. This would lead to sharper focus and enhance growth prospects for the group.”

That's why, when five quay cranes at GTI were due for decommission, the workforce turned out in droves to say farewell to the infrastructure that has served the company, and our customers well.

End of an era

Sunay Mukerjee, Chief Operating Ofcer, APM Terminals Mumbai, said the decommissioning was “an emotional moment for the frontline colleagues at GTI.”

In a message to APM Terminals global organisation he wrote: “This morning, Berth 1 at GTI closed for operations as we start the massive Fit for Future project.” Offline, he confessed that there were few dry eyes on the dock as the Ship-to-Shore Cranes 1-5 performed their final moves.

“In Indian tradition, equipment and tools are considered very sacred. Workers revere the machines which bring success and prosperity in professional life,” he said.

Saying goodbye to the cranes was akin to “saying goodbye to a retiring colleague who has been with us throughout our journey to excellence,” said Mukerjee.

Safe to the core

The transformation at APM Terminals Mumbai will accelerate the terminal's ability to accommodate larger

vessels and bring economies of scale.

In addition, as Mukerjee points out, “We are making our terminal safer, better, and bigger. We can achieve this in large part because of the dedication of our people, who demonstrate an exemplary work culture to serve our customers and to keep Safety at the core of our operations.”

Remarkable achievement

This safety culture is demonstrated by the 500, and counting, incident-free days chalked up at the terminal project site.

"This is a remarkable feat considering the nature of the work and dealing with the large equipment and machine at the site,” says Mukerjee. “This is the result of our work culture of taking ownership, following safety protocols & procedures, teamwork, and commitment under the able support of the management."

The terminal now embarks on the most critical part of its Fit for Future project with ongoing dismantling of existing infrastructure and the arrival of new cranes, In the transition periods, expected to take six months, APMM Berth 1 will remain closed for vessel operations.

Completion, on schedule for early September, will see the terminal not only increase capability to handle bigger vessels, but also increase efficiency allowing us to turnaround our shipping line vessels faster, creating value for end customers.

APM Terminals Mumbai/Gateway Terminals India (GTI) is a joint venture with CONCOR (26%), APM Terminals (74%).

Merchandise & services exports would touch $ 750 bn this year : Piyush Goyal

NEW DELHI : Commerce and Industry Minister

Shri Piyush Goyal expressed confidence that the country’s merchandise and services exports would touch 750 billion dollar this year He also informed that the export figure for last year had already been crossed in February Speaking at the Raisina Dialogue in New Delhi, the Minister underlined that focus on sustainability and added that quality will hold India in good stead in the times to come.

Highlighting the government’s efforts in bringing quality consciousness, he informed that the number of Quality Control Orders (QCOs) have grown by over four times and now stands at about 440 products. He said that it will grow upto 2000 in next two years and help the country in achieving its Zero Defect, Zero Affect aspiration.

Appreciating the country’s business ecosystem as stable and investor-friendly, the Minister informed that many many companies are in talks with India for investing in the semiconductor chain.

Responding to a question on India achieving the highest

export figure in the past year, the Minister said that it was the result of a deep-dive analysis and extensive planning where India’s capabilities were thoroughly assessed, new markets were sought out, districts, especially remote ones were empowered to become export hubs and all Indian Missions abroad were effectively leveraged to promote trade, technology and tourism.

The Minister noted that last year, the merchandise and service trade had crossed USD 650 billion. Goyal noted that the transformational initiatives undertaken by the Government over the last decade, such as the Swachh Bharat Mission, electrification of around 35 million homes in rural India, creation of a robust power grid, housing for all, free healthcare for over 500 million people had held India in good stead to overcome the challenges posed by the pandemic.

On semi-conductor production in India, the Minister said many companies were already in dialogue for investing in India because of India’s stability and investor-friendly business ecosystem.

Sagarmala projects worth Rs 1 lakh Cr identied in Andhra Pradesh: Shipping Minister

VISAKHAPATNAM : More than 110 projects worth around Rs 1.1 lakh crore have been identified in Andhra Pradesh under Sagarmala, even as 35 works worth Rs 32,000 crore have already been completed, Union Minister of Ports and Shipping Shri Sarbananda Sonowal said recently. Speaking at the Global Investors’ Summit being held here, he said some of the projects are focused on roll on roll off (RORO), passenger jetty, fishing, port modernisation and skill development among others.

According to the Minister, Visakhapatnam Port has exhibited a healthy cargo growth of over 7.5 per cent in 2022-23.

“Following directions from the Ministry, the port is in the process of transforming as a landlord port. Other ports also may comply by 2023,” said the Shipping Minister

NEW DELHI : Indian Railways has recorded best ever February Monthly freight loading of 124.03 MT in February ’23. The incremental loading in the month of February has been 4.26 MT i.e. a growth of 3.55 % over the previous best February figures achieved in 2022.

With this, Indian Railways has had 30 straight months of best ever monthly freight loading.

IR has achieved an incremental loading of 3.18 MT in Coal, followed by 0.94 MT in Fertilizers, 0.66 MT in Balance of other Goods, 0.28 MT in POL and 0.27 MT in Container.

Increase in automobile loading has been another highlight of Freight Business in FY 2022-23 and 5015 rakes have been loaded in FY 2022-23 till February as compared to 2966 rakes during the same period of last year i.e. a growth of 69%.

The cumulative freight loading from April’22 to February’23 has been 1367.49 MT as against 1278.84 MT achieved in 2021-22 i.e. an incremental loading of 88.65 MT, with a growth of 6.93 % over same period last year

The freight NTKMs (Net tonne kilometers) have increased to 73 Billion in February’23 from 70 Billion in February’22 registering a growth of 4.28%. The cumulative freight NTKMs from April’22 to February’23 has been 82 Billion as against 74 Billion with a growth of 10.81 % over same period of last year

Further elaborating, Sonowal said the Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Water in association with the Ministry of Fishing is upgrading fishing harbours all over India as per international standards.

As many as 31 such harbours will be developed under Sagarmala and Pradhan Mantri Macha Sampada Yojana, he said.

Likewise, the fishing harbour at Visakhapatnam is being upgraded at a cost of Rs 151 crore, which will result in improving the quality of life of the local fishing community.

Moreover, the Union Minister noted that the international cruise terminal in the port city of Visakhapatnam is nearing completion at a cost of Rs 97 crore, and is likely to start operations from April.

Sharing information on achievements at the national level, Sonowal said cargo handling capacity has risen by 79 per cent in the past nine years, including merchandise exports touching a value of $421 billion in 2021-2022.

The sustained efforts of Indian Railways to increase supply of Coal to Power houses, in close coordination with Ministries of Power and Coal, have been one of the key features of the freight performance in the month of February. The loading of Coal (both domestic and imported) to Power Houses increased by 3 39 MT in January with 45.63 MT Coal being moved to Power houses as against 42.24 MT last year, i.e. a growth of 8.02 %. Cumulatively, in the first eleven months of the year, IR has loaded more than 79.69 MT extra coal to Power Houses as compared to same period of last year, with a growth of more than 15.44 %.

The commodity wise growth numbers show that IR has achieved growth in almost all commodity segments with the following growth rates :

Taka, Rupee to replace USD in Bangladesh – India Bilateral Trade

NEW DELHI - Bangladesh and India may soon do away with dollar as the currency of exchange between two South Asian neighbours. The development is expected to reduce the cost of trade as well as losses due to Rupee-Dollar and Taka-Dollar differences.

The latest bilateral deliberations between Bangladesh and India took place on the sidelines of the G20 finance chiefs meeting held in the southern Indian city of Bengaluru on February 24-25.

The report, while citing Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina government’s estimates, adds that every year, Bangladeshi nationals spend about $2 billion on treatment, tourism and education in India. India is among the top three import destinations for Bangladesh. For Indians and Bangladeshis visiting each other’s countries, they would

have a dual currency card that they can load with Indian rupees or Bangladeshi Taka before travelling.

Reports in the Bangladeshi media say that the exchange rate would be derived from the two currencies and not be workedbackwardsfromtheexchangerate ofthedollar Media reported that the matter of Taka-Rupee bilateral exchange and dual currency card was brought up at a meeting of Bangladesh’s National Economic Council chaired by Prime MinisterSheikh Hasina.

At the meeting, Bangladesh Bank Governor Abdur Rouf Talukder reportedly said that the move would also reduce the pressureonforeigncurrencygiventhelargevolumeofpayments toIndia.Therolloutwillfirsttakeplaceonatestbasis,beforea formalisation of the process for the public by the public sector banksofthetwocountries.

HMM becomes best-performing carrier for carbon emission between Far East and U.S. West Coast

SEOUL - HMM announced it was selected as the best-performing carrier, achieving the lowest carbon emission between Far East Asia and the U.S. West Coast in Q4 2022, based on theCarbonEmissionsIndex(CEI).

CEI is published quarterly by Xeneta, a leading ocean freight rate analysis firm, in partnership with Marine Benchmark, a data management specialist for the maritime industry. CEI demonstrates the carbon intensity of shipping companies across 13 main global trade lanes based on the actual cargo load andsailingdata.

According to CEI, HMM recorded 70.2 in Q4 2022, scoring 27%betterthanthetradelaneaverageof96.2.

HMM unveiled its mid-to-long-term strategy in July last year andiscommittedtoenhancingitsenvironmentalcapabilities.

As part of its continuous environmental initiative, HMM ordered nine methanol-powered containerships last month. It also has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with

variousfuelsupplierstosecurethesupplyofmethanolfuel.

In addition, HMM opened a land-based ‘Fleet Control Centre’ in 2020. This centre is enabled to monitor harmful greenhouse gas emissions by effectively controlling fleet operationsandprocessingsailingdatainrealtime.

An HMM official said, "Environmental capabilities are key to success for a sustainable future amid the ever-changing market situation. We will be dedicated to better preparing for stricter environmentalregulationsbyreducingcarbonemissions."

London - Drewry’s composite World Container Index decreasedby2%to$1,859.28per40ftcontainerlastweek.

The composite index has decreased by 2% this week, and has dropped by 80% when compared with the same week last year.

The latest Drewry WCI composite index of $1,859 per 40foot container is now 82% below the peak of $10,377 reached inSeptember2021.Itis31%lowerthanthe10-yearaverageof $2,691, indicating a return to more normal prices, but remains 31% higher than average 2019 (pre-pandemic) rates of$1,420.

The average composite index for the year-to-date is $2,015 per 40ft container, which is $676 lower than the

10-yearaverage($2,691mentionedabove).

Thecompositeindexdecreasedby2%to$1,859.28per40ft container, and is 80% lower than the same week in 2022. Rates on Shanghai – New York slid by 4% or $109 to settle at $2,772 per 40ft box. Rates on Los Angeles – Shanghai fell 3% to $1,067 per feu. Rates on Shanghai – Genoa sank 2% to $2,477 per 40ft container. Similarly, rates on Rotterdam –Shanghai and Shanghai – Rotterdam also contracted by 2% each,to$715and$1,593perfeu,respectively.Moreover,those on Shanghai – Los Angeles dipped a miniscule 1% to $1,948 per 40ft box. PIL strengthens Middle East coverage with Gulf Service 2 (Gc2)

SINGAPORE : With the aim of continually improving its connectivity from Asia and enhancing its coverage of the MiddleEast, Pacific International Lines (PIL) is pleased to introduce an additional service, known as Gulf China Service 2 (Gc2). GC2 complements PIL’s existing GulfChinaService(GCS)andChinaGulfService(CSG).

Thekeyfeature ofGC2 isthatitwillhaveadirectcalltoSohar in Oman, in addition to Jebel Ali in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Currently, GCS’ calls in the Middle East are Jebel Ali, Dammam in Saudi Arabia and Hamad in Qatar, while for CSG, thecallsareJebelAli,DammamandAbuDhabiintheUAE.

With GC2, PIL will be able to expand its presence in the Middle East, further strengthening its connectivity from China and South East Asia. This additional dedicated service will

2022 Highlights

A HISTORIC PERFORMANCE DRIVEN BY EXCEPTIONAL CIRCUMSTANCES

With the start of 2022 already impacted by post-Covid 19 congestions, major geopolitical tensions, most notably the Russian-Ukrainian conflict, then drove a sharp spike in energy costs, which in turn led to widespread inflationary pressures. These factors triggered a slowdown in freight demand, helping to gradually ease port terminal congestions, especially in the fourth quarter. To this end, the Group reinvested almost 90% of its 2022 net prots in its industrial assets and capabilities, while also strengthening itsbalancesheetandenhancingitsfinancialflexibility.

Shipping : an exceptional year despite a slowdown in global trade in the nal quarter

For the maritime shipping industry, 2022 was a year of contrasting halves. Behind the relative stability in full-year volumes transported by the Group (down 1.3% YoY) lay major disparities between the first and second halves, as wellasamongthemainshippingroutes.

• In the rst half, while demand for consumer goods remained strong, shipping capacity was constrained by port congestions and other disruptions impacting local supplychainsaroundtheworld.

• The second half saw a demand shock accentuated in the fourth quarter by a wave of inventory destocking in the U.S. and the impact of persistent inflation on consumer spending. In addition, the situation was exacerbated by the energy crisis in Europe. As a result, volumes transported by the Group on East-West routes declined by 7.2% in the fourth quarter, while the North-South routes proved more resilient thanks in particular to the sustained growth of certain emerging economies. Lastly, intra-regional volumes suffered both from the RussianUkrainian conflict (with the termination of Russian services)andfromthelackofcapacityinAsiaearlyinthe year. The decline in demand spurred a quicker return to normalspotfreightratesinthefinalquarter.

Investments in our terminal portfolio

The Group owns equity stakes in more than 56 port terminals and projects around the world. In 2022, CMA CGM stepped up its investments in industry-leading infrastructure to continue supporting growth in its shipping linesandenhancethequalityofitscustomerservice.

TheGroupnowowns100%ofthe Fenix Marine Services (FMS) terminal in the Long Beach/Los Angeles port area, the US’s leading West Coast import gateway; has started its 10-year operation to manage, operate and maintain the Beirut container terminal; and has been awarded the concession for the Nhava Sheva terminal in India, with its partnerJMBaxi.

Late in the year, CMA CGM announced the acquisition of two strategic terminals at the Port of New York, GCT Bayonne and GCT New York, which have a combined

capacity of two million TEUs per year with potential for further expansion up to almost double the current capacity. Theclosingofthistransactionremainssubjecttoregulatory approvals.

Logistics: expanding CEVA's logistics capabilities with new acquisitions

In 2022, the CMA CGM Group continued developing an integrated suite of logistics solutions to support its customers’supplychains.FollowingtheacquisitionofCEVA Logistics in 2019, CMA CGM accelerated its transformation in2022withthecompletionofthreestrategicacquisitions Creation of a new special Shipping Department

In 2023, the Group will pursue its expansion into transport using roll-on/roll-off (ro-ro) ships and expand its offering in finished vehicle logistics, by capitalizing on the expertise of Gefco, now a part of our CEVA Logistics subsidiary.

ACTIVITIES & FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE IN 2022 Group: solid nancial performance and lower debt

• Full-year 2022 revenue stood at USD 74.5 billion, a 33% increase versus 2021 led by the Group’s maritime shippingbusiness.

• EBITDA came to USD 33.3 billion, representing an EBITDA margin of 44.7% or 3.4 points higher than the yearbefore.

• Net income, Group share amounted to USD 24.9 billion fortheyear.

• The Group continued to strengthen its balance sheet, with net debt holding steady at USD 7.7 billion as of December 31, 2022. In addition, the Group has USD 11.6 billioninshort-termfinancialassets.

Shipping: strong growth in revenue

In 2022, 21.7 million TEUs were transported, down 1.3% from 2021. Revenue from the maritime shipping operations roseby30.1%year-on-year,toUSD58.9billion.

EBITDA stood at USD 31.6 billion, versus USD 22.1 billion in 2021. EBITDA margin widened by five points to 53.7%, lifted by the USD 2,771 in average revenue per TEU duringtheyear.

Logistics: improved nancial performance

Revenue from the logistics business rose by a steep 47.6% to USD 16.1 billion versus 2021. Growth was supported by robust expansion in the freight management business, particularlyinthefirsthalf,aswellasbyrecentacquisitions.

EBITDA ended the year at USD 1,223 million, a 38.7% increaseon2021.

OUTLOOK

Geopolitical tensions, macroeconomic uncertainty, and sharpdecreaseoffreightrates

Second-half 2022 trends remained at play in 2023, as market conditions in the transport and logistics industry continue to deteriorate. The balance between supply and demand is expected to remain challenging, as capacity is expected to increase – in both maritime shipping (easing of port congestion, delivery of new vessels) and air freight (return of passenger belly capacity). At the same time, demand prospects seem uncertain (dealer inventory destocking in the US, consumer purchasing power under pressure).

Nevertheless, certain macroeconomic signals are stabilizing. In the U.S., consumer spending and the labor market remain resilient despite the very aggressive tightening pursued by the Federal Reserve in recent months. In the European Union, recession has been avoided for the moment. Some emerging markets in Latin America andSoutheastAsiaremainstrong.

The Group is closely monitoring the evolutions in the economicandgeopoliticalsituation,despitelimitedvisibility over the rest of the year, and remains confident in its ability to weather the cycle thanks to the diversification of its businessesanditsfinancialstrength.
