Mr Mahesh Sivaswamy (Chairman, TGS) and Mrs. Mala Mahesh (Director, TGS) graced the occasion and inaugurated the event with lamp lightning Ceremony. The event witnessed a congregation comprising the employees, the award winners and their families across variouscountries.

Mr. Mahesh Sivaswamy warmly welcomed everyone withhisheartfeltspeech.Hewasallexcitedandthrilledthat within a period of 23 years, the company have a pool of employees who have been associated for last 20 years. He said “All the employees are the pillars of this company and the company is what it is because of all you. Today, it’s a day for all of you to celebrate.” Rightly said so, he also mentioned the venue - The Sivaswamy Auditorium which was resembling as “Transworld House” with all the decoration, zeal and the environment. This auditorium holds a special place for TGS, as it has been named after their founder Late Shri R Sivaswamy, who had an immense gratitudetowardsIndianArtandCulture.

This policy will help make the sector an integrated, cost efficient, and sustainable logistics eco system in the country as it aims in streamlining the rules and addressing the supply side constraints.

This policy aims at boosting the various government inititiatives like PM Gati Shakti, Sagarmala project etc...which can distinctively help us in competing globally cutting down the logistics cost and building the world class infrastructure.

Currently, the logistics cost to GDP of our country is around 15% much higher as compared to other developed countries.Withthispolicygovernmentwillaimtoreducethe logisticscosttosingledigit.

Also, when comparing to world class port facilities our country will get major boost due to this policy. Collectively this policy will help us in designing the India where a major focus will be on increasing the exports, creating a competitive domestic market, compliment the initiatives like Make in India. This will help our GDP flourish and create a road map for achieving our Hon. Prime Minister’s aim of 5 trillion dollar economy.

Port of Antwerp-Bruges : Conti Seafrigo Antwerp realises new frozen food warehouse

ANTWERP: The JV Conti

Seafrigo Antwerp (CSA) has acquired a concession on the Nieuwe Westweg (near the Bevrijdingsdok in the port of Antwerp). The joint venture between the Conti-Lines Group and Seafrigo will build a sustainable frozen food warehouse with space for more than 40,000 pallets on the approximately 6-hectare site. This investment further strengthens the "cold chain" segment in Port of Antwerp-Bruges.

Maritimegrowth

The concession will be the location for a brand new, state-of-the-art food logistics platform. Seafrigo Antwerp NV will be responsible for its operation and the processing and storage of a wide range of refrigerated and frozen perishables. The development of a frozen warehouse will allow the CSA alliance to expand its maritime network through strong international partnerships. Also, the warehouse offers essential added value for the Antwerp cold chain segment given the very high utilisation rate in the temperature-controlled warehouses and the high current marketdemand.

Innovativeambitions

The 25 m high-rise warehouse will be equipped with a brand new IT system that - combined with inspections via drones - will ensure higher overall safety and efficiency on the shop floor. Sustainability is also a high priority for the parties involved. In addition to using solar panels and heat pumps, hydrogen-powered vehicles are being examined.

We are also looking at whether waste heat can be used to heat our own buildings. In addition, the new building meets the "very good" label of the BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) principles.

Grape export subsidy withdrawal impacting its exporters

MUMBAI: Grape export from Maharashtra is likely to witness a decline this year with the Union Government withdrawing the subsidy for outbound shipment of the popular fruit, according to industry representatives. Maharashtra is the largest producer and exporter of grapes in the Country with Nashik district being its biggest production centre. The district in North Maharashtra, located around 200 km from Mumbai, is often called the “grapecapitalofIndia”.

There are some blocks in Sangli, Satara and a handful of other districts in the state that grow grapes, but most of the exporttakesplacefromNashik.

Grape growers in the state are not happy with the decision to withdraw the export subsidy and have raised the issue with thecentralgovernment.

A delegation of the Maharashtra State Grape Growers’ Association (MSGGA), the apex body of grape farmers, recently submitted a representation listing their demands to

Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Dr Bharati Pawar, who is also a Lok Sabha member from Nashikdistrict.

“The transport and marketing subsidy was Rs 40,000 percontainerofgrape,whichwaslaterincreasedtoRs60,000. At the same time, transportation charges for the UK or the European Union were USD 1,800 per container which later increased to USD 4,000. Now, it is USD 7,500, but the governmenthaswithdrawnthesubsidy,”Nimsesaid.

He said the Centre’s move will adversely affect overseas shipmentofthefruitwhichcanbeeatenfresh,indriedformor canbeusedformakingwine,jam,juice,vinegarandoilamong otherproducts.

India invokes 1939 law to deal with exports of rice with ‘brokens’

NEW DELHI: Thousands of parboiled containers have been held at Nhava Sheva and Mundra Ports since the broken percentagehasbeenmentioned.

The Indian Government has invoked a 1939 order as a solution to clear shipments of rice that have the “presence of certaincontentofbrokenrice”.

However, exporters say it creates more confusion and obstruction than allowing the shipments. The confusion has cropped up after the Centre curbed rice exports from September 9. While it banned exports of non-basmati white and broken rice, it has permitted shipments of parboiled and basmatirice.

Wrongdefinition

In a trade notice on September 28, the DirectorateGeneral of Foreign Trade (DGFT) said it had received representation from the trade and industry on the problems faced by exporters in clearing consignments of other categoriesofriceduetothepresenceofthebrokenrice.

The DGFT said, “Considering the hardships faced by the

trade community and in order to facilitate exports, it is clarified that wherever difficulty is being faced, the limit of tolerance of ‘broken rice’ in consignments of rice for export may be allowed in terms of ‘The Rice Grade and Marketing Rules,1939.”

ECclassification

TheEuropeanCommission(EC),initsclassificationin1967 regulation, said a “broken rice” is from which a part of the volume greater than the end has been removed. Broken grains includelargebrokengrains(piecesofgrainsofalengthnotless thanhalfthatofgrain,butnotconstitutingacompletegrain).

Thegrainisdamagedduringprocessingortransportation or in the field, the length does not exceed three-quarters (75percent)oftheaveragelengthofthewholekernel.

“AllthesespecificationsareofAgmarkandoutdated.They are not as per international standards and specifications. Even Food Corporation of India does not follow these rules,” said a North India-based exporter on the condition of anonymity.

Merchandise Export in April -Sept ‘22-23 increases 15.54% (YoY)

• Export in certain sectors has seen a decline on account of slowdown in some developed economies and consequenal slowdown in demands.

• Certain measures to contain domesc inflaon and domesc food security concerns have also impacted exports.

• Trade deficit in September 2022 was USD 26.72 billion which is an improvement over trade deficit of USD 28.68 Billion in August 2022.

NEW DELHI: India has achieved monthly value of merchandise export in September 2022 amounting USD 32.62 billion, decreased by 3.52% over USD 33.81 billion in September 2021. India’s merchandise export in April -September 2022-23 was USD 229.05 billion with an increase of 15.54%overUSD198.25billioninApril -September2021-22.

Value of non-petroleum exports in September 2022 was 26.54 USD billion, registering a negative growth of only 7.25% over non-petroleum exports of USD 28.62 billion in September 2021. The value of nonpetroleum exports in AprilSeptember 2022-23 was USD 179.17 billion, an increase of 5.6% over USD169.67billioninApril-September 2021-22.

Value of non-petroleum and nongems and jewellery exports in September 2022 was USD 22.9 billion, registeringanegativegrowthof9.78% over non-petroleum and non-gems

and jewellery exports of USD 25.38 billion in September 2021. The cumulative value of non-petroleum and non-gems and jewellery exports in April -September 2022-23 was USD 158.68 billion, an increase of 5.53% over cumulative value of nonpetroleum and non-gems and jewelleryexportsofUSD150.37billion inApril-September2021-22.

India’s merchandise import in September 2022 was USD 59.35 billion,anincreaseof5.44%overUSD 56.29 billion in September 2021. India’s merchandise imports in April -September 2022-23 was USD 378.53 billion with an increase of 37.89% over USD 274.5 billion in April-September2021-22.

Value of non-petroleum imports was USD 43.75 billion in September 2022 with a positive growth of 10.73% overnon-petroleumimports of USD 39.51 billion in September 2021. The cumulative value of non-petroleum imports in

April -September 2022-23 was USD 263.54 billion, showing an increase of 28.58% compared to non-oil imports of USD 204.97 billion in April-September2021-22.

Value of non-oil, non-GJ (gold, silver & Precious metals) imports was USD 36.5 billion in September 2022 with a positive growth of 16.78%over non-oil and non-GJ imports of USD 31.26 billion in September 2021.Non-oil, non-GJ (Gold, Silver & Precious Metals) imports in April -September 2022-23 was USD 222.78 billion, recording a positive growth of 34.45%, as compared to non-oil and non-GJ imports of USD 165.7 billion in AprilSeptember2021-22.

The trade deficit in September 2022 was USD 26.72 billion, while it was 149.47 billion USD during AprilSeptember 2022-23. The trade deficit in September 2022 was an improvement over trade deficit of USD28.68BillioninAugust2022.

Exports slowdown is due to Global Trade facing demand slowdown on account of high inventories, inflation, economies entering recession, high volatility in currencies : FIEO

NEW DELHI: Reacting to the Trade Data for the month of September, 2022, Dr A Sakthivel, President, FIEO said that the slowdown in exports is a reflection of the toughening conditions of the globaltradefacingdemandslowdown on account of high inventories, rising inflation, economies entering recession, high volatility in currencies and geopolitical tensions. The drop in commodity prices and restriction on some exports, with a view to stem the price increase in the domestic market, have also affected the growth numbers. He said that the decline in exports of engineering goods,apparelsandtextilessectorsis ofparticularconcernasthesesectors are key to huge employment. At the same time, the growth in exports of

electronic goods on a sustained basis is a good sign besides growth in exports of gems & jewellery and petroleum products. While we should not draw solace from the fact that exports of most of the economies are facing contraction but this is a stark reality. President, FIEO said that the coming few months would be quite challenging unless the geopolitical situationimprovesdrastically.

However, the decline in imports is encouragingdespitethehugejumpin import of coal and transport equipment. We hope that the energy prices will come down further to provide more relief to us on the trade deficit,opinedFIEOChief.

Dr Sakthivel added that in the current situation, the focus should be on providing liquidity at competitive

cost to the export sector and therefore, RBI may consider opening export credit refinance facility to bankssoastoencouragethemtolend to the export sector with refinancing from RBI at the Repo Rate. Since the interest rates have moved upward and are now more than the pre-covid level, there is a strong case to restore the Interest Equalization support to 5% and 3% respectively as existed prior to the covid period. Moreover, the Government should look into the request of the export sector for continuing with IGST exemption on freight on exports, which lapsed on 30th September, 2022, particularly as the freight rates are still at much elevated level and GST on such freight will affect the liquidity of the exporters,thoughrefundablelater.

President lays Foundation Stones of Multiple Projects at Deendayal Port

GANDHIDHAM: The President of India Smt. Droupadi Murmu, laid the foundation stone of four important Projects worth more than Rs.280 crore of Deendayal Port Authority, Kandla at Gujarat. These Projects will enhance Port Infrastructure along with boosting its Logistics performance as well as the overall Economic Growth for its entire hinterland. Theseprojectswillalso improve the cargo handling capacity of the port along with further improvement in the turnaround time of the Ships and faster evacuation of the cargo.

The project of Construction of New Dome Shaped Godowns inside Cargo JettyAreawithProject Cost of Rs. 69.51 crore will have extended working height, resulting in more cargohandling,further suitable for unloading the bulk cargo through hydraulic system by Trucks / Transport vehiclesoffifthgeneration.

The Upgradation of Plots & Storm Water Drains in 66HectareAreainsideCargoJettyAreawithProjectCost of Rs. 80 crore will upgrade the Plots/ Storage Area including utility services like Concrete Roads, Storm Water Drains network, pipe conduit for electrical cables, Paving and labour amenity, facilities like drinking water,toilets,andrest-sheltersforworkers.

The project of Upgradation of Tuna Road from TwoLanetoFourLanewithProjectCostofRs.87.32Crore will result into faster Cargo evacuation, looking to the increase in Traffic handling at Port and accommodate futurePortTrafficseamlessly.Itwillprovidemuchdesired connectivity to the Port from the National Highway and provideaface–lifttotheapproachroadstothePortinline withGatiShakti.Theprojectwillalsobenefittheproposed JettiestobedevelopedbytheDPAonPPP.

The President acknowledged the achievement of Deendayal Port for being the number one port of the country in terms of cargo handled and appreciated that the Gujarat Ports handled about 40% cargo of the entire country. She also praised the achievements of Ministry of

Ports, Shipping and Waterways and its various efforts for increasing the cargo handling capacity of the Deendayal Port throughtheseProjects whichwillbebeneficial totheentireregion.

Deendayal Port Authority-Kandla (DPA) of Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) recorded a growth of 17.22% over the corresponding period of the last fiscal by handling 70.14 MMT cargo in first two quarters of the current financial year and has handled 12.04 MMT cargo in July 2022 which is all time highest handling in a single month. The Port had handled highest ever cargo to the tune of 127.1 MMT for the year 2021-22. The Port had also handled Roll Off of 4 Super Over Dimension Packages Cargo at Bunder Basin Jetty Area-Kandla. DPA, Kandla has also augmented full automation of Gate Operations at Port in partnership with CEL and in guidance of NISG initiated RFID based Access ControlSystem"e-Drishti".

MinistryofPorts,ShippingandWaterwaysaspartofits commitment for the development of Port Sector in India has identified 74 projects worth Rs. 57,000 Crore under Sagarmala Programme in the state of Gujarat. Out of which, 15 projects worth Rs. 9,000 Crore have been completed; 33 projects worth more than Rs. 25,000 Crore are under implementation and 26 projects worth Rs. 22,700 Crore are under development. These projects are being implemented by Central Line Ministries, Major Ports,StateMaritimeBoardandotherStateAgencies.

Bahri signs MoU with GASCO to explore cooperation in establishing a land transportation and logistics company

The established company would facilitate the transportaon of propane and butane gases to customers across Saudi Arabia

(GASCO), a leading provider of Liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) services which include transportation and filling of both butane and propanegases.

Under the new agreement, both parties will explore cooperative means to establish a company that provides land transportation and logistics services that would help enhance the distribution network of LPG within the Kingdom.
