BHAVNAGAR: Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi said the time has come for India to supply ‘Made in India’ Containers to the world to reduce overdependence on one Country for Containerrequirements.
In an apparent hint at the recent global container shortage and the resultant escalation in global freight costs, Modi asked entrepreneurs from Bhavnagar’s Alang ship-breaking yard to utilise steel recovered from shipbreakingtomakecontainersandsupply ittotheworld.
“Recently we observed that excessive dependence on one Country for container supplies can trigger a big crisis. This is a new and big opportunity forBhavnagar.
On the one side, India’s share in international trade is rising, and on the other, the world is looking for a dependable container supplier,” Modi said during a rally at Bhavnagar, on the first day of his two-day visit to Gujarat.
Modi said, conventionally, the steel recovered from ship-breaking activity at Alang has been used widely in the
construction sector, but the same could be used to make containers, too. “The world wants lakhs of containers. The containers to be made in Bhavnagar would energise the Atmanirbhar Bharat mission and create local employment opportunities,”Modisaid.
In a further opening up of opportunities for the Alang shipbreakers, Modi said the Centre’s newlylaunched vehicle scrappage policy wouldenableAlangtobecomeabighub for vehicle scrapping. “Alang has expertise in scrapping of ships. They can also do vehicle scrapping. I am confident that the first and the biggest beneficiaries would be you,” he said in an address to the youth and entrepreneurs from across Bhavnagar andpartsofSaurashtra.
For the farmers, traders and communities of Saurashtra, Modi said the RoRo ferry service between Bhavnagar district’s Ghogha to Surat’s Hazira has reduced the distancebetweenSaurashtraandSurat from400kmviaroadearlier,tolessthan 100 km in the RoRo ferry.
“So far, about 3 lakh passengers have used this mode and over 80,000 cars have been transported. This year too, about 40 lakh litres of petrol-diesel has been saved. This is a big savings for people,”saidthePrimeMinister, adding that the development works have been takingplacesilentlywithoutmuchnoise andadvertisement.
“In the past 20 years, we made honest efforts to make Gujarat’s coastline a gateway for India’s prosperity,” he said, adding the coastline has three big LNG terminals with India’s first coming up in Gujarat, which has also become a petrochemicalshub.
“Wecreatedacoalterminalnetwork along the coast. Today, the coastal region of Gujarat has several power plants, whichprovideelectricitynotjust to Gujarat, but also to other States,” Modi said. With the development of Dholera for renewable energy, space applications and the semi-conductor industry, Modi said the day is not far when Ahmedabad, Dholera and Bhavnagar will emerge as strong centresofdevelopment.
BHAVNAGAR: Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi said the Port of Bhavnagar will play a big role in building a self-reliant India and hundreds of new employment opportunities will be created in Bhavnagar following the expansion of warehousing, transportation and logisticsbusiness.

The PM said, Government has made sincere efforts to make Gujarat’s coastline the gateway to India’s prosperity since the last two decades. He said that Bhavnagar has emerged as acentreforport-leddevelopment.Dueto the existing infrastructure at Alang Ship Recycling Yard, wide opportunities lie ahead for Bhavnagar in the Vehicle Scrapping and container manufacturing sector. He said Bhavnagar will also be benefited by the huge investments cominginDholerasmartcity.

MUMBAI: The Reserve Bank recently said it has received a "good response from four-five countries and many banks" for settling bilateral trade in the rupee. As part of its measures to internationalise the rupee and ease the pressure on the local currency from a steeply rising dollar, following the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the RBI had on July 11 issued guidelines on settling international tradeintherupee.
While issuing the guidelines, the
Reserve Bank said, "The mechanism to settle international trade in the rupee is to promote the growth of global trade with emphasis on exports and to support the increasing interest of the global trading community in the rupee".
At the customary post-policy presser, Deputy Governor T Rabi Sankar told reporters that "the response(totherupeetradesettlement proposal) has been fairly good. But since the process involves a lot vetting
at the levels of Banks, Central Banks andalsooftheGovernments, itistaking time".
While refusing to name any country or foreign banks that have shown interest in settling bilateral trade in the rupee, he said "though I cannot name any country or foreign bank that has shown interest in this, I am happy to inform you that we have received positive responses from at least fourfive countries and many foreign banks alongwithmanylocalbankstoo".

OSLO: Höegh Autoliners now offer our customers the possibility of transporting cargo out of Europe while running on 100% advanced biofuels meeting the highest sustainability standards. An important step in Höegh Autoliners’ ambitious sustainabilitystrategytoreduceitsenvironmentalfootprint and another concrete step on our path to zero. BMW Group have already decided to make use of the offer, prompting an importantcarbonfootprintreduction.
Höegh Autoliners is proud to announce that our vessels are now regularly running on sustainable biofuels. And that our customers have the possibility of choosing that option whenshippingtheircargo.
This shows how Höegh Autoliners is taking active and decisive measures to minimize our carbon footprint. And that of our customers. The company is constantly working together with our partners to improve our decarbonisation efforts and provide more environmentally friendlytransportationsolutions.
“This marks an important step in our long-term commitment to be the leader in carbon neutral deep sea shipping and in our ambitious strategy to reduce our environmental footprint and combat climate change. We are happy to be able to provide our customers with greener deep sea transportation solutions now as a steppingstone on our path to zero. In close collaboration withourpartners, weareconstantlyworkingonnewwaysof assisting customers in decarbonising their supply chain,” says AndreasEnger,CEOofHöeghAutoliners.
BMW Group is amongst the OEM’s already choosing to ship cargo on ships using these advanced biofuels. ThecontractbetweenBMWandHöeghAutolinersresultsin emissionreductionsof4.466MTCO2equivalents.
Michael Nikolaides, Senior Vice President Production Network and Supply Chain Management BMW Group explains: “According to the BMW Group’s Green Transport Logistics Strategy, we are systematically working on emission-reducing logistics concepts and pilot projects. By 2030 we want to reduce the CO2 footprint per vehicle by at least 40% over the entire life cycle, compared to base year 2019. Thus, pursuing a technologyopen approach and close cooperation with our logistics serviceprovidersarecrucialhere.”
In March 2021, Höegh Autoliners completed its first carbon neutral voyage from Europe to South Africa, when the Horizon class vessel Höegh Trigger ran on advancedbiofuels.
Our biofuel is derived from sustainable waste oil, for example from food manufacturing and industrial
applications.Thewasteoilsarecollectedandgothroughthe biofuel production to generate a sustainable, second-generation marine biofuel. It is virtually free of sulphur oxides and reduces the vessel’s net carbon emissionsby100%fromtanktoair.
In April this year, Höegh Autoliners CEO Andreas Enger was onboard Höegh Trigger while it ran on 100 % carbon neutral biofuel in the English Channel in a test run to make sure everything was completely safe when running onbiofuel.
“It was a fantastic experience being onboard Höegh Trigger while operating 100% carbon neutral biofuel. It was completely like running on fossil fuels – only green. At Höegh Autoliners we never compromise with safety, whichiswhywehavetestedthebiofuelsolutionthoroughly.I am happy to be able to provide this green solution for our customers,”saysAndreasEnger.
Oskar Orstadius, Chief Sales Officer at Höegh Autoliners, says: “Sustainable transportation is at the heart of Höegh Autoliners’ vision for the future, and we continue to accelerate our decarbonisation efforts to meet our net zero emissions target by 2040.
