Allcargo Logistics expands in Europe with ECU Worldwide – Nordicon joint venture Acquires 65% stake in the JV to become market leader in the Nordic region and con nue its focus on offering mul -modal digital logis cs services

MUMBAI: Allcargo Logistics Ltd., India’s largest integrated logistics solutions provider, announced that it’s wholly owned subsidiary Allcargo Belgium NV. (Operating ECU Worldwide network), a global multi-modal logistics major, has signed a definitive Joint Venture agreement with Nordicon Group, the market leader in Nordics in LCL and rail consolidation. ECU Worldwide will hold a 65% share, while the balance of 35% will be held by the present owners of Nordicon.

With this strategic investment, ECU Worldwide will now be a market leader with a near 40% market share of the less-thancontainer-load (LCL) business in the Nordic region. Shashi Kiran Shetty, Chairman, Allcargo Logistics, ECU Worldwide, and Gati Ltd., said, “The partnership with Nordicon is in line with our vision of consolidating our market leadership and working with entrepreneurial teams to expand into new territories who share our vision for digital innovation for the logistics sector. Nordicon is led by a strong and capable team, and we are very pleased to welcome them into the larger ECU Worldwide family. This partnership is a great way to scale the global business Cont’d. Exports poised for a Leap, Driven by favourable Global Trade outlook : India Ratings MUMBAI: A glance at the FY21 data suggests that some of the major export destinations for India’s top 10 major commodities are also the regions which are expected to witness strong import growth in 2021. For example, the US which is part of North America a n d t h e U K , B e l g i u m , G e r m a n y, I t a l y a n d t h e Netherlands which are part of Europe are expected to

INSTC-Port of Antwerp: a formidable future logistics solution for India-EU cargo ows By Ms. Malini Dutt Representative for India Port of Antwerp MUMBAI: I find it extremely interesting to monitor new cargo transit developments across the world and analyze its impact on Antwerp Port as a gateway to Europe. A recent one that I was closely following is the International North South Transit Corridor (INSTC). There was so much publicity about the cargo block train that left from Finland to India. The transit mode is expected to reduce the duration and cost of cargo transport between the India-EU corridor. I started to wonder whether such an offering could present strong competition to maritime gateway ports like Antwerp. Hence, I decide to seek views on the subject from industry experts that have practical exposure in doing business across this India-EU corridor and thought leaders in this space. Here are some interesting Cont’d. Pg. 6 observations.

clock import growth of 11.4% and 8.4% yoy, respectively in 2021. India Ratings and Research (Ind-Ra) therefore believes that India’s exports, which have been languishing for quite some time, can take advantage of the favourable trade growth outlook of 2021 and consolidate its position further than what has been Cont’d. Pg. 15 witnessed in 1QFY22.

Allcargo Logistics expands in Europe with ECU Worldwide – Nordicon joint venture Acquires 65% stake in the JV to become market leader in the Nordic region and con nue its focus on offering mul -modal digital logis cs services Cont’d. from Pg. 3

This agreement expands ECU Worldwide’s service network and global reach further, adding new geography and a specialized rail freight consolidation service to expand further across Europe. This partnership will help better serve customers who are looking at flexible and time-bound logistics solutions in the Nordic region. “Nordicon has an innovative asset-light rail

consolidation business which opens new opportunities for ECU Worldwide across Europe,” said Ravi Jakhar, Chief Strategy Ofcer, Allcargo Logistics Ltd. “Nordicon’s integration with the ECU network will lead to incremental business revenue and margins at existing ECU offices across the world. This is a high value accretive deal for ECU Worldwide and Allcargo and will create value for stakeholders.”

Concor Q1 net profit jumps multi-fold to Rs 251 crore NEW DELHI: State-owned Container Corporation of India Ltd (Concor) recently reported 409.67 per cent surge in consolidated net profit to Rs 251.22 crore for the first quarter ended June 30. The company had clocked a net profit of Rs 49.29 crore in the year-ago period, the multi-modal

logistics company said in a regulatory filing. The total income during the April-June FY22 increased to Rs 1,876.79 crore, from Rs 1,251.50 crore a year ago. Its expenses stood at Rs 1,536 crore as compared to Rs 1,179.71 crore earlier. Besides providing inland transport by rail for containers, Concor is also into the management of ports, air cargo complexes and establishing cold chains.

Hapag-Lloyd raises its earnings outlook for 2021 • Signicant increase in half-year result compared to previous year • Global demand for container transports remains at a high level • Earnings outlook for the nancial year 2021 raised HAMBURG: Based on preliminary figures, Hapag-Lloyd expects for the first half of 2021 an EBITDA of approximately USD 4.2 billion (around EUR 3.5 billion) compared to around USD 1.3 billion (approximately EUR 1.2 billion) in the prior-year period. At the same time, EBIT is expected to be roughly USD 3.5 billion (around EUR 2.9 billion) compared to approximately USD 0.6 billion (around EUR 0.5 billion) in the first half of 2020. Global demand for container transport remains at a high level. However, operational disruptions along the entire supply chain continue to cause significant delays and thereby contribute to the shortage of transport capacity. Hapag-Lloyd therefore expects earnings momentum to remain very strong in the second half of the financial year. Previously, a gradual normalisation of the earnings trend had been expected for the second half-year. Given these circumstances, the Executive Board of

Hapag-Lloyd raises its earnings outlook for the 2021 financial year. EBITDA is now expected to be in the range of USD 9.2 to 11.2 billion or EUR 7.6 to 9.3 billion (previously: clearly above previous year) and EBIT in the range of USD 7.5 to 9.5 billion or EUR 6.2 to 7.9 billion (previously: clearly above previous year), respectively. “We also benefitted from better freight rates in the second quarter and are looking at a very strong first half-year overall. At the same time, since we firmly expect this momentum to carry over into the second half of the year, we have raised our earnings forecast for 2021 as a whole. We will continue to work tirelessly to reduce the impact of supply chain bottlenecks for our customers and to deliver a better service quality,” said Rolf Habben Jansen, CEO of Hapag-Lloyd. The final business figures for the first half of 2021 will be published as planned on 12 August 2021.

COSCO SHIPPING Ports Abu Dhabi Terminal implements 1st autonomous Container Truck Project in Middle East

ABU DHABI: COSCO SHIPPING Ports Abu Dhabi Terminal (“CSP Abu Dhabi Terminal”) has recently implemented its first autonomous container truck project, which will link up, with the transport capacity of self-driving vehicles, all aspects of the production and operation of this large modern container yard and automated terminal in the Middle East and also the first semi-automated terminal operated by COSCO SHIPPING overseas under its green development initiative. The project successfully pioneered the use of self-driving container trucks at a terminal in the Middle East. During the operation of autonomous trucks, the CEO of

Abu Dhabi Seaport Authority and leaders of the terminal business sector and the FTA visited the terminal to observe its progress. They highly acclaimed CSP Abu Dhabi Terminal for endeavoring to improve automated terminal management, taking the lead in introducing self-driving container trucks in the Middle East, and helping Khalifa Port enhance its leading position in technology innovation in the region. In the next step, CSP Abu Dhabi Terminal will advance the remote upgrading of quay cranes to achieve complete automation of the terminal and provide more resilient services and solutions for global customers.

INSTC-Port of Antwerp: a formidable future logistics solution for India-EU cargo ows By Ms. Malini Dutt - Representative for India - Port of Antwerp Cont’d. from Pg. 3

Shantanu Bhadkamkar, President, Association of M u l t i m o d a l Tr a n s p o r t Operators of India (AMTOI) “Macroeconomics studies demonstrate that sometimes the increase in the number of players, particularly those offering a differentiated service (or product) satisfying the exact needs, actually increases the size of the market, and it more than compensates for the reduction of the market share. This is Mr. Shantanu Bhadkamkar particularly true where both players are competent & innovative. Therefore, the new development can be a two-fold opportunity for the Port of Antwerp as it can expect growth in the volume of the goods transported from their catchment areas; it is also a potential opportunity for acquisition. A record 12,400 trains were deployed in 2020 to carry 1.13 million TEU on the China-Europe route. The new option has neither reduced the volume of cargo moving via seaports nor the freight rates for ocean cargo. New logistics solutions create barriers to near sourcing and protectionism or reverse globalization, as new options facilitate the supply chain resilience. Naturally, it will contribute to growth in cargo moved by sea freight.”

Pranab Jha, Vice President Shipping (Group), JSW Steel “With an objective to reduce transportation time and cost in comparison to the traditional route, INSTC sure looks promising. However, in my view it does not have the economic viability or the operational efficiency to Mr. Pranab Jha become a competition for gateway ports like Antwerp. Any multimodal with shorter land transit in comparison to sea leg is more efficient but for INSTC with substantially higher land transport has certain economic disadvantages and surely not sustainable in terms of carbon footprints. Being the second largest European container port, Antwerp definitely should see this as a great opportunity to reduce per unit cost by upsizing vessels and increasing aggregated capacity from western European countries to increase the container throughput per vessel attracting large ships. Antwerp could leverage its geographical advantage & infrastructure strategically for global connection and to attract ever expanding global trade.”

Huned Gandhi, Managing Director Air & Sea Logistics Indian Subcontinent, DACHSER India “Alter native options are much needed to facilitate in balancing the demand & supply on such important trade corridors, especially in the current Mr. Huned Gandhi situation where there is massive pressure due to the acute shortage of space & inventory with all major shipping lines. This is also leading to an exorbitant increase in freight levels that are clearly not sustainable in the long run. Transportation by ships will continue to be the most optimal mode of transportation due to the sheer capacity handling per ship. However, multi modal solutions like the International North–South Transport Corridor (INSTC) will also help to support increased trade due with progressive globalization. Such innovative trade corridors will only complement the existing port infrastructure. The in-transit security needs to be

ascertained and secured, once this is done, then the route can easily be opened up for all types of cargo. Connecting ASEAN countries with similar road / rail / solutions would also be helpful in the times to come. Improvements on rail connections between India and Bangladesh would also facilitate trade between the countries.”

Mahesh Khetan, Global Head Supply Chain, Grasim Industries Ltd (Advanced Material), Aditya Birla Group “Nurminen logistics is history’s first logistics operator who has sent a block train from Europe to India via the Western wing of the International NorthMr. Mahesh Khetan South Transport Corridor (INSTC). Ocean shipment demand is increasing day by day whereas capacity of the shipping industry is not increasing at the same pace. INSTC kind of corridors will act as a supplement to the existing capacities of the ports and may not become a competition for seaports like Antwerp due to: • The demand is way too high for a rail network to satisfy • Bulk liquid cargo carrying capability may never exist in a rail network (e.g., single vessel carrying 10,000 MT of a liquid chemical) • Constraints related to carrying hazardous cargo A combination of ocean, rail and road network can facilitate reduction of lead time and optimize costs.” Collaboration is the way forward Antwerp Port has a futuristic outlook, always adapting its offering aligned to global changes and future customer requirements. Collaborating instead of competing with new logistical gateways remains the approach. And connectivity between the Port and major European cargo hubs takes c e n t e r s t a g e o f o u r f o c u s . M a r t i n H u b e n a k , Po r t Representative Central & Eastern Europe, Antwerp Port Authority sums it up well in his observation when he says, “We know that the Europe gravity point related to EU-China corridor is Poland these days. Main part of total trains passing through this country and is further reloaded and distributed to other destinations including Central-Western-North Europe. Therefore, we can realize huge investment into the infrastructure, and its continuous development. It is also good to know that such an alternative (EU-China/Asia rail transport) does not stay and work alone. There are many different modes of transport and cargo flows, that need to be well combined to make it successful. In this respect we could talk about the ports hinterland connectivity within all of Europe that plays an important role and helps to utilize these type of trains especially on the side of back loads. For example, Port of Antwerp is connected to Poland by several train shuttles almost on daily basis. Due to our product diversity and huge logistics service providers portfolio we can offer a high flexibility and good mix of options to our customers/partners, not only on the way to/from Poland and other European countries, but also on the way to/from Asia. Let’s put it this way: We are biggest open supply chain hub in Europe, and we like to grow our cooperation and support new alternatives.” There are now 36 new rail connections between Port of Antwerp and the European hinterland in just the last 8 months, refer here. Not only that but earlier this month, the Ports of Antwerp and Liege signed an agreement to boost multimodal inland connections between them which will enable the new Silk Road hub extend beyond China-Liege up to the Port of Antwerp. This will provide more opportunities for cargo distribution also by maritime shipping. With this precedent, one can only expect in the future, strengthening the connectivity between the Port of Antwerp and INSTC corridor will open new multimodal transport options for cargo flows between the India-Europe corridor. This is good future opportunity, and our port is ready to participate with its existing and growing cargo flows and hinterland connectivity!

Chabahar Port important for expanding TIR system in region: Iran Customs NEW DELHI: Addressing a webinar on ‘International Trade Facilitation under “ATA Carnet” & “UN TIR” system’, organized by FICCI, jointly with PLEXCONCIL, Mostafa Ayati, senior advisor to President of Customs in TIR & Transit, Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) said, “Chabahar is ver y important for expanding the TIR system in the region especially for all Indian traders and merchants to export their goods to CIS countries and north of Europe and Iran customs administration has made all infrastructure ready to facilitate trade and transit in the corridor.” While sharing Iran’s experience on TIR for the last many years, Behnam – Faramarzian, head of TIR & ATA department, Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture (ICCIMA) said, “Role of TIR transport becoming more crucial and vital for harmonized customs operations.” Satyajit Mohanty, Joint Secretary & Commissioner of Customs, Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs (CBIC) noted that carnets help in obviating the need to follow varying customs documentation procedures in each country and eliminate the need for furnishing the customs duties, bonds,

bank guarantees etc. for temporary admission. Mohanty said, “ATA Carnet & UN TIR systems have several outstanding trade facilitative features and really standout as international best practices”. “ATA Carnet and UN TIR are not only trade facilitative but also help customs not just in securing the revenues but also in making the life simpler and in the expeditious clearance of goods. Carnets thus save time, save effort and save money both for the trade as wells as for the customs,” he added. Arvind Goenka, Chairman, PLEXCONCIL mentioned that ATA Carnet System is one of the most userfriendly system of temporary importation and acts as a key instrument for promoting international trade. “With a minimum of effort and expense, Indian firms can enjoy the benefits of an ATA Carnet from FICCI and join hundreds of Carnet users whose merchandise, valued at over 1 crore travels the world on a Carnet,” he added. ATA C a r n e t i s a t e m p o r a r y admission document, which simplifies the customs procedures and clearances in a foreign country, without paying duty or a bank guarantee for temporary

import into that country. Like a passport for goods, ATA Carnet allows for the goods for which it was issued to enter any of the participating countries for up to one year. An ATA Carnet holder can avoid customs declaration and can do away with security deposit or guarantee in the country of temporary importation. TIR aims to facilitate the international transport of goods under customs seal with a maximum coverage. The system provides a guarantee covering the customs taxes and duties at risk which is required to pass transit countries and provides a balance between the responsibilities of the customs authorities and the international business community. It prevents delays in border crossing operations- by minimizing the formalities decreases the transportation costs, as a result, encourages the development of international trade. FICCI is the sole national Issuing & Guaranteeing Association (NIGA) for the operation of ATA Carnet & UN TIR system in India and has been closely working with the Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs (CBIC) for the smooth operation of system in the country.

Exports poised for a Leap, Driven by favourable Global Trade outlook : India Ratings Cont’d. from Pg. 3

In yoy growth terms, India’s exports grew 60.29%, 195.72%, 69.35% and 48.35% in the months of March, April, May and June 2021, respectively. No doubt, the growth numbers reflect the depth of the COVID-19 shock last year but Ind-Ra believes they also show the strength of the current recovery, adequately captured by the monthly export number. The average monthly exports during 1QFY22 jumped to USD31.80 billion. In fact, the exports momentum began in March 2021, which witnessed the highest ever monthly exports of USD34.45 billion. India’s average monthly exports in FY20 were USD26.14 billion, nearly same as in FY14. It had peaked at USD27.54 billion in FY19. However, FY22 has begun on a positive note. The sustained high monthly export number is even more noteworthy as this was also the period when the country was str uggling with devastating COVID 2.0. The pickup in 1QFY22 exports has primarily been driven by the higher exports of engineering goods, petroleum products, cotton yarn/fabs/made-ups, organic & inorganic chemicals, drugs & pharmaceuticals, plastic & linoleum and iron ore. Performance of gems and jewellery, another key export product, has been somewhat lacklustre. Although monthly exports of gems and jewellery did show some pick-up, it remined in the range of USD2.5 billion-3.0 billion since September 2020 with the exception of March and April

2021 when monthly exports of gems and jewellery was USD3.6 billion and U S D 3 . 4 b i l l i o n , r e s p e c t i v e l y. Readymade garments, another labour-intensive and crucial export c o m m o d i t y, w i t n e s s e d m o n t h l y exports of USD1.1 billion in 1QFY22, lower than the average monthly exports of USD1.4 billion witnessed during FY16-FY20. World Trade Organisation Trade Barometer on 28 May 2021 was 109.7,

nearly 10 points above the baseline value of 100 for the index and 21.6 points higher than same period last year, reflecting the strength of the current recovery. However, as the threat of COVID-19 is not yet over, a lot will depend on the pace and coverage of immunisation in different parts of the globe. Ind-Ra, therefore, expects the merchandise exports to grow 6.9% yoy in FY22 (FY21: negative 12,5% and FY20: negative 5.0%).

Infrastructure Creation will help to smoothen the Logistics Sector : Industry Experts NEW DELHI: The draft National Logistics Policy sets targets to try and reduce the overall national logistics cost that looks like a stiff target. But we think it’s possible to do due to a lot of work happening in the infrastructure and some process reforms have been taken place in the past few years. We need to integrate, changing mindsets and IT systems, creation of an infrastructure that will help i n i n t e r - m o d a l c o n n e c t i v i t y. Tr a n s p o r t a t i o n ; Wa r e h o u s i n g & Inventory; Administrative and Order Processing are the key areas of focus which will help to reduce the logistics cost, mentioned Sh Vikas Chaube, JS, Logistics, Ministry of Commerce & Industry in the technical session on Revolutionize Urban Logistics in the 3rd Edition Virtual Supply Chain Excon: Future of Global Supply Chain and Logistics organized by PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI). Sh Vikas Chaube opined that city logistics is an area of focus looking at the expansion in e-commerce and growing needs of the rural population. There is a need to maintain smooth systems, institutional mechanisms, right

coordinating involving all stakeholders and authorities that will help to smoothen the working of city logistics. Cities should develop their city logistics considering their population, needs, freight, transportation, and other important factors. He mentioned that the five stages to better city logistics plan are data; institutional mechanism; creating a guiding mission; make an evaluation framework and find modes of arranging capital. Talking about the challenges faced by warehousing he infor med that the ministry is well aware of it. Many of the logistics are in the zone of the Government of India and state list which requires the involvement of a lot of stakeholders. But, the importance of this area is being looked after closely by the government and, developments are being taken place in the area of approvals. C a p t T S R a m a n u j a m , C E O, Logistics Skill Council while moderating the session mentioned that there is a need to get all the regulators and stakeholders together for ensuring seamless working and development of the logistics sector. He also mentioned that there is a need for

better IT and communication systems; improvement of the health of the employees; promote skill development; ease of doing business; improvement of freight management and, creating transit hubs. M r. P i u s h G o y a l , M a n a g i n g Director, Kelley Material Handling mentioned that there is a need for road infrastructure, different trucks based on the goods, and investment in technology for improvement in the logistics sector, especially in warehousing and hardware. Mr. Amit Gupta, Vice President, Synchronized Supply Systems mentioned that rural logistics have a lot of business opportunities due to rapid urbanization and increase in demand of retail sector but, there is a need for standard wages labor, fewer reservations, skill development of workers, and better IT connectivity. Mr. Umesh Grover, Secretar yGeneral, CFSAI while giving an overview about urban logistics, mentioned that there is a need for small trucks, increase costal shipping, and providing incentives for the same and more standardization.

For 1st Time, Agri Exporters from the remote Districts of India connected to the International buyers from USA, the UAE, and Japan NEW DELHI: Under the Districts as Export Hubs initiative, the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) under Department of Commerce in partnership with the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) and Invest India conducted a 2 Day Virtual Outreach Event connecting exporters from the Districts to the buyers outside India. Following the opening ceremony, a virtual trade fair was held where 197 exhibitors participated from the states of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, and Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir

and Ladakh. The event provided a platform to small sellers from areas earlier not known for exports, apart from large exporters from India. 28 stalls from Jammu and Kashmir and 5 from Ladakh were highlighted in the exhibition. The virtual outreach event saw a footfall of over 300 visitors and importers from domestic and international buyers inclusive of the USA, the UAE, and Japan. Putting a spotlight on agricultural products under five categories namely spices and tea, food grains and agroproducts, fruits and vegetables, dry fruits,

and processed food, three buyer-seller interactive sessions were held with the support of Indian Embassies from the USA, the UAE, and Japan. Few leading s u p e r m a r k e t s s u c h a s S p i n n e y, Walmart, and Lulu also participated during the interactive sessions and showed keen interest in India’s agricultural products. The event marked the beginning of a series of events to be held to boost India's exports and commemorate 75 years of India Independence under the Districts as Export Hubs initiative.

Indian traders sign sugar export deals in advance as frost hits Brazil NEW DELHI: Indian traders for the first time have signed sugar export contracts five months ahead of shipments as a likely drop in Brazil’s production prompted buyers to secure supplies from the South Asian country in advance, five trade sources said recently. Sugar production in Brazil, the world’s biggest producer and exporter, is likely to drop due to a drought and frost that has damaged the sugarcane crop. Traders said the likely decline has already lifted sugar prices near their highest levels in 3years and it is prompting buyers to secure supplies in advance from India, the world’s second biggest sugar producer. So far, traders have contracted 500,000 tonnes of raw sugar for the shipments in

December and January between $435 and $440 a tonne on a free-on-board (FOB) basis, they said. “Mills would start production after 3-4 months, but traders have sold new season r a w s u g a r f o r D e c e m b e r- J a n u a r y shipments in advance,” Rahil Shaikh, Managing Director of MEIR Commodities India. Four other sources who confirmed the export agreements could not be named because of their company policies. Indian traders usually sign contracts one or two months in advance and only after the government announces the export subsidy for the overseas sales. The country is set to export a record 7 million tonnes of sugar in the ongoing

2020/21 marketing year ending on Sept. 30. Erratic weather in Brazil could create tightness in supplies during November to April in the world market, and there is a sense that buyers are focusing on procurement from India, a Mumbai-based dealer with a global trading firm said. Brazil’s food supply and statistics agency Conab said that recent cold weather killed sugarcane plants in parts of the Centre-South region, exacerbating losses already caused by water stress. Unlike Brazil, Indian mills mostly produce white sugar, but traders are encouraging them to produce raw sugar at the start of the season and contracting that quantity for export, another Mumbai-based dealer with a global trading firm said.

Forex reserves down by USD 1.581 billion to USD 611.149 billion MUMBAI: The country's foreign exchange reserves declined by USD 1.581 billion to stand at USD 611.149 billion for the week ended July 23, RBI data showed on Friday. The reserves had reached a lifetime high of USD 612.730 billion after rising by USD 835 million in the previous

week ended July 16, 2021. In the reporting week, the drop in the reserves was mainly due to a fall in foreign currency assets (FCAs), a major component of the overall reserves, as per weekly data by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). FCAs declined by USD 1.12 billion

to USD 567.628 billion. Gold reserves were down by USD 449 million to USD 36.884 billion in the reporting week. The country's reserve position with the IMF also declined by USD 9 million to USD 5.091 billion in the reporting week, as per the data.

and USD 7.77 billion, respectively. "High tariffs faced by Indian exporters in key markets such as the EU and the UK as compared to zero duty access given to competing nations like Bangladesh and Cambodia are affecting India's exports performance," she said in the Lok Sabha recently.

Export Opportunities in Chemical Sector – Potentials and Way Forward post pandemic GANDHINAGAR: The Gujarat Chapter of PHDCCI organized a Webinar on ‘Export Opportunities in Chemical Sector Post Pandemic recently. Mr. Sanjay Aggarwal, President, PHDCCI in his Presidential Address after welcoming all dignitaries present, provided an overview of the Chemical sector industry in India backed by facts and figures. He lauded the schemes of the Government in boosting domestic exports and production and urged the stakeholders to promote the ‘Make in India’ campaign to put a thrust on export opportunities. Mr. Ashish Desai, Chair, Gujarat chapter, PHDCCI in his address stressed on the importance of utilizing home grown products to its full potential thereby upholding the objectives mooted by PM Shri Narendra Modi to be more self-reliant. He opined that the export opportunities in India has numerous challenges, however, they can be resolved and catered to if the relevant stakeholders are provided support thereby boosting the economy. Shri Samir Kumar Biswas, Addl.

Secy. (Chemicals), Department of Chemicals & Petro Chemicals, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers (Govt. of India) in his Keynote address thanked PHDCCI for welcoming him on the Webinar and provided his insights on the Chemical Sector being one of the major backbone of Indian economy. He also reiterated on the fact that the manufacturers and exporters while building ties with Asian nations for exports, they need to also know the intricacies of doing business within the country to explore newer opportunities. Shri Dharmendra Kumar Madan, Director (Chemicals), Department of Chemicals & Petro Chemicals, Ministry of Chemicals & Fertilizers (Govt. of India) in his special address harped on the issues and challenges faced by the stakeholders in Chemical industr y and emphasized on the importance of having better facilitators to provide opportunities to the relevant stakeholders to be able to do ease of business within the boundaries of the country. Mr. Natubhai Patel, President of Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and

Industry provided his views on why the Chemical sector especially the Dyestuff Manufacturers are the most effected due to the Pandemic and how the schemes of the Government can help them revive from the loss and automatically pave way for opportunities. Mr. Anil Jain, Chairman, Foreign Trade Committee, Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry shared his knowledge on the hurdles faced by the Exporters in the Chemical Sector. He said that though there are underlying schemes by the Government but the paperwork in place is very tedious owing to cutting short the interest of the Exporters to avail the benefits and hence the profits has been ver y marginal and the loss becomes inevitable. The Webinar was attended by 60 delegates from industry personnel in Chemicals and Petro Chemicals and was supported by Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Chemexcil, Gujarat Chemical Association and Gujarat Dye Manufacturers Association.

Nearly 22 lakh bales of cotton exported to China in 2020-21 season NEW DELHI: India exported 21.97 lakh bales of cotton to China out of the total outbound shipments of 54.83 lakh bales during the current cotton season 2020-21, Parliament was informed recently. Minister of State for Textiles Darshana Jardosh said the export of cotton and yarn from India to China has not stopped due to

the COVID-19 pandemic. China was the second largest importer of cotton from India after Bangladesh, she said. Regarding export of yarn during 2020-21, she said 275 million kg of cotton yarn was exported to China out of the total exports of 980 million kg.

China was the largest importer of yarn from India. "During the current cotton season 2020-21 (October 2020 to September 2021) as of April 2021, 21.97 lakh bales of cotton were exported from India to China out of the total exports of 54.83 lakh bales," she said.

India begins anti-dumping duty sunset review probe on steel wire rods imported from China NEW DELHI: India has initiated a sunset review investigation to continue imposing anti-dumping duty on steel wire rods imported from China. The Indian Steel Association on behalf of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited, Steel Authority of India Limited and JSW Steel raised concerns at the likelihood of recurrence of dumping if the extant antidumping duty comes to an end this year and requested for review and continuation of the levy. Preliminary antidumping duties on steel wire rods from China were first imposed in 2016.

“Further, Tata Steel Long Products Limited and Jindal Steel and Power Limited have supported the application,” the Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) said in a notification. Steel wire rods, made from both alloy and non-alloy steel, are used in many industries including automotive components, welding electrodes and general engineering. “There is prima facie evidence of likelihood of continuation/recurrence of dumping and injury to the domestic industry in the event of cessation of duty,

considering the volume and price of imports of subject goods (steel wire rods) from China, positive dumping margin, significant unutilised capacities in subject country, existence of trade remedial measures imposed by other countries against the subject country, potential trade diversion, price attractiveness of Indian market and reduction of basic custom duty by India on imports of product under consideration,” the DGTR said. The period of investigation is October 1, 2019 to March 31, 2021.

APEDA organizes orientation programme for start-ups for boosting agricultural products exports from Rajasthan NEW DELHI: In a bid to give fillip to the start-up ecosystem for promotion of agricultural products exports, APEDA in association with Agriculture U n i v e r s i t y, J o d h p u r, R a j a s t h a n organized a programme where more than 430 farmers, students, traders and other stakeholders had participated. The orientation programme for start-ups in agri-export, was aimed at creating awareness among farmers and agriculture students in the western region of Rajasthan on agri-exports. The focus of the programme was to urge the Rajasthan government to adopt ‘agriculture export’ as a business opportunity for boosting livelihood and farmers’ income. The aim of programme organized on 28th July, 2021 through virtual mode was

to support the farmers, agriculture students and other stakeholders in the export oriented supply chain which generate rural employment. During the programme, APEDA officials explained issues around agricultural exports and challenges in the export oriented agri supply chain. APEDA officials also explained various Government initiatives on agriculture exports such as Financial Assistance Schemes, Risk Management in agriculture export, RBI Guidelines, Pesticides issues, Digital Traceability in agri supply chain, etc. The Agriculture department of Rajasthan, Agricultural University, Jodhpur and other state government officials discussed the agriculture export potential from the west zone of

Rajasthan especially in the crops such as barley, caster, legums, mustard, pomegranate, dates, etc. The programme also discussed the export potential of commercial crops including Capparis decidua, (referred locally as karira or kerda), Acacia Senegal (Kummat), P rosopis cenararia (Sangari). APEDA has been engaged with State Governments for the implementation of AEP. The States of Maharashtra, U.P., Kerala, Nagaland, Ta m i l N a d u , A s s a m , P u n j a b , Karnataka, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Manipur, Sikkim, Uttarakhand and M.P. have finalized the State specific Action Plan for exports while the action plans of other States are at different stages of finalization.

Adani to shut MMLP in Ludhiana as 7-month blockade over farm bills impacts AHMEDABAD: Adani Logistics Ltd is shuttering operations at its rail-linked inland container depot (ICD) at Kilaraipur in Ludhiana after a sevenmonth blockade by protestors agitating over the controversial farm bills passed by the Centre rendered the facility idle, incurring huge losses to the group. Since January 2021, the protestors have blocked the main gate of the ICD by placing tractor trolley to obstruct movement of goods and personnel, thereby halting entire operations at the facility. The multi modal logistics park at Kilaraipur, spread over 80 acres, was opened in 2017 to cater to the industries in and around Ludhiana, offering services for import and export of cargo by rail and road.

The Adani Group has been waiting in the hope that the blockade will be removed. “As the state administration was not able to remove the blockade and allow the ICD to continue operations, the Adani Group has decided to close the business operation at ICD Kilaraipur as it cannot sustain losses and continue to pay wages to employees any longer,” a person briefed on the development said. As part of closing down of ICD Kilaraipur, the Adani Group has removed its signage from the main gate of the ICD and issued termination notice to its employees and other, the person said. Th closure of the ICD will impact jobs – direct and indirect – of about 400 persons and their families. It will also result in loss to the exchequer by way of railway haulage, GST, Customs duties

and other taxes of about Rs700 crores and the overall economic impact is estimated worth more than Rs7,000 crore. After complaints to the police failed to end the blockade, the Adani Group filed a writ petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court in March to protect its fundamental right to carry on business. The State Authorities till date has only filed status reports before the Court and completely failed to remove the blockade. “Owing to the blockade, the ICD business has come to a complete standstill. Despite this, the Group has continuously paid full wages to its staff and payments to vendors in the hope that the High Court and the State of Punjab will take action for removal of the blockade,” the person said.

Demand for warehouse roles increases 20-25% in December 2020-July 2021 period MUMBAI: In the logistics sector, demand for warehouse roles (delivery executives, movers, pickers, packers and loaders) increased by 20 per cent to 25 per cent in December 2020-July 2021 period as compared to corresponding period last year, and is expected to further increase, said Ajoy Thomas, Business Head (Retail, E-Commerce, Logistics & Transportation), TeamLease Services, an HR company. This is a positive sign for the blue-collar workforce and the gig workforce, who are majorly deployed in these roles, he told. On what is driving the demand for such jobs, Thomas said that India has emerged as one of the biggest countries for gig and platform workers as ecommerce platforms created huge job opportunities even in the midst of the pandemic and continue to do so even

now. Now, with the second wave lock down easing out, hiring continues to further increase for such segments. Pandemic’s impact The pandemic and its aftermath have served to transform the logistics sector from a supporting service sector into an essential one. Higher penetration and more acceptance for online shopping across metro cities, tier II locations and towns are expected to continue pushing the growth. The warehousing market in India was valued at Rs. 1,05,000 crore in 2020. It is expected to expand at a compound annual growth rate of 15 per cent between 2021 and 2025 to reach a value of Rs. 2,02,900 crore by 2025. The usage of the warehousing system in India has gained significant prominence over the past few years. In India, the warehousing

and cold storage space occupancy increased by 30 per cent, he said. “We are likely to see an even bigger increase in sales than predicted by these pre-Covid-19 estimates, as ecommerce sales have seen massive growth and transformation since early 2020. The pandemic has had an immediate impact on buyer behaviour that has accelerated the digital transformation for many businesses,” he said. Aside from a rapid shift to online buying behaviour, Covid-19 has also increased the consumption of mobile and digital media. As people have turned to devices to fill the social gap, the consumer demand for personalised shopping experiences have increased. Consumer expectations for value have translated into many of the ecommerce new trends we are seeing in 2021, he said.

Maersk pioneers rst block train for Decathlon from Vietnam to France HANOI: Maersk’s first dedicated block train from Vietnam to Europe just left Hanoi station recently. The twenty-three 40-foot containers are on its way to Zhengzhou, China, and from there go to Liège, Belgium directly. The train is carrying the latest products for Decathlon, one of the world's largest sporting goods retailers, and all cargoes will be transported by trucks to their final destination in Dourges and Rouvignies, France by the end of August. This first block train from Vietnam to Europe for Decathlon will not only achieve reliable lead times, but also provide our customer with improved visibility. This service is also driving synergies between intermodal and rail transport, adding resilience and great value for Decathlon’s supply chain, said Philippe Dunand, Maersk Global Account Director for Decathlon. The COVID-19 pandemic has caused unprecedented disruptions to many industries and global supply chain. However, for the sportswear industry, it is thriving as consumers continue to spend time exercising, as outdoor individual sports and home workouts both see increased participation. Massive orders are piling up at Vietnam’s manufacturers, leading to lack of space to store products. As Decathlonian, we engrave the mission “Make sport accessible for the many”. The COVID-19 pandemic is a challenging context but also an opportunity to prove our agility in supply chain management. Readiness to try new solutions with a can-do mindset makes us proud to bring happiness to all sport users, said Lionel Adenot, Decathlon Vietnam Country Leader. Maersk teams in Vietnam, China and Europe collaborate to guarantee the smooth transition and ser vice delivery. “There is a container shortage, limited space in the warehouse, and ocean capacity constraints on the services network. In our constant effort to cater for Decathlon’ specific needs, we are integrating various transport modes to provide agility and flexibility as well as reliability to transport their products. We are currently working on arranging three more block trains to Europe in the following quarter,” explains Rossie Hong Nguyen, Lifestyle and Retail Client Manager, Vietnam, Cambodia and Myanmar Area at Maersk.

Maersk’s dependability, along with their familiarity with our products and our needs, have proven invaluable. With the block train, we get a totally new transport solution that is efficient, reliable and with a lower impact on the environment. A good alternative solution comes up in the turbulent and pressure period of the traditional transport market, said Diep Nguyen, Vietnam Logistics Leader at Decathlon. Despite the severe flooding overwhelmed the city of Zhengzhou last week, which had impact on business activities, the rail services had resumed. Zhengzhou is the junction for the major north-south and east-west rail lines,

with connections to most major cities in both domestic and overseas from one of Asia's largest stations. Maersk’s dedicated block train service for Decathlon can be traced back to 2017, first departure from China. Since then, the company continues scaling up the intercontinental rail service to meet the growing demand of all customers. In fact, our train services between Asia and Europe serve 30 different countries across multiple routes both east and west bound.

NYK issues 1st Transition Bonds in Japan Accelera ng ini a ves to reduce greenhouse gas emissions TOKYO: On July 21, NYK announced the below items and conditions for the issuance of its 43rd and 44th unsecured corporate bonds (transition bonds) within the Japanese domestic market, becoming Japan’s first company to issue such bonds. A transition bond is one in which the proceeds are used for the purpose of funding projects that contribute to the company's long-term transition strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. By issuing transition bonds to secure various funding resources for low carbon, decarbonization solutions, NYK will accelerate its greenhouse gas emission reduction. This issuance has been selected as the first model case for transition finance by Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. NYK issued the first green bonds in the global shipping

business sector in 2018, followed by participation in green loans and sustainability linked loans. Through environmentally efficient investment supported by ESG financing, NYK will demonstrate the company’s growth strategies based on ESG initiatives to wide range of stakeholders.
