The Belgian Delegation accompanying the ambassador and the Consul General also included Mr. Wouter Vanhees, the Trade & Investment Commissioner of Flanders Investment & Trade and Ms. Emmanuelle Timmermans, Trade & Investment Commissioner of Wallonia Export andInvestmentAgency.Thevisitwasaimedat exploring potential opportunities for collaboration, knowledge exchange, and fostering diplomatic and educational ties betweenBelgiumandIndia.

The esteemed guests were given a tour of the campus and its modern facilities. They also met with university leadership, faculty, and students, and H.E. Mr. Didier VANDERHASSELT personally interacted with the students of the LLM and MBA programmes.

Gujarat Maritime University has a strong commitment to promoting maritime education, research, and industry collaborations in Gujarat and India. The university offers a range of postgraduate, and doctoral programs in the domains of law and management. The visit of H.E. Mr. Didier VANDERHASSELT and Mr. Frank Geerkens aimed to identify potential areas of collaboration in research, training, and capacity building between GMU and Belgian academic institutions and industries.

Following the recent signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Gujarat Maritime University and the APEC-Flanders Training Centre, both institutions are expected to engage in a series of collaborative efforts aimed at strengthening maritime

education,research,andindustrypartnerships.

The MoU and the collaboration of GMU and APEC serves as a catalyst for fostering a long-term partnership between India and Belgium to enhance the quality of maritime education, research, and industry collaborations.

RAJKOT: Commerce and Industry Minister Shri Piyush Goyal recently expressed hope that traders willsoonbeabletosettleforeigntrade in the rupee currency as several banks from different countries are opening special Vostro Accounts with Indianbanks.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved 60 requests to open Special Rupee Vostro Accounts (SRVAs)ofcorrespondentbanksfrom 18 countries, including the UK, Singapore,andNewZealand.

The central bank, he said, is in discussion with its counterparts in

differentnationsonthis.

“We will soon start seeing operationalisation of this rupee trading in international trade with several countries,” Goyal told reporters in Rajkot. He also said that negotiations for free trade agreements (FTAs) with developed regions like the European Union, the UK, and Canada are in “advanced” stages.

Groups including European Free Trade Association Free Trade Agreement(EFTA),GulfCooperation Council (GCC) and Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) are also

keen to start talks for similar pacts withIndia.

“The whole world wants to have a comprehensive economic partnership agreement with India,” theministersaid.

On the second phase of the production-linked incentive scheme for the textiles sector, he said that extensive stakeholder discussions havehappenedonthesubject.

“I am quite confident that very soon we will be able to finalise the contours of the scheme and take it up for approval at the highest level,” he added.

Russia initiates to boost INSTC infra to expand trade with India

MOSCOW: After the visit of the Russian Deputy PM’s in India, Russian companies have swung into action to boost International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) infrastructure and Iran’s ports and railroads to expand trade withIndia.

Russian companies have launched discussions on options for their participation in boosting INSTC and expanding their presence in the Iranian ports in the Persian Gulf for trade with India and West Asia. Moscow is also tappingintofundsfromWestAsiato fundprojects,accordingtosources.

OptimaluseofINTSCfiguredhigh during Russian Deputy PM’s meetingswithIndia’sexternalaffairs, finance and commerce ministers this week as the two sides are keen to expand bilateral trade beyond currentlevelof$45bn.NewDelhiand Moscow are also keen to introduce digital infrastructure along INSTC to smoothen operations. Since the

beginning of the Ukraine war, India’s trade with Russia has increased manifold via the INSTC that connects Mumbai with Russia via Iran and Caspian Sea. Azerbaijan is a key elementunderINSTC.

Thereisamissinglinkofsome165 kilometres inside Iran (the RashtAstara line) to connect Azerbaijani andIranianrailways.InJanuary2023, Russia and Iran agreed to launch the

construction with Russian funding. Russian Railways has offered to complete the missing Rasht-Astara link. Azerbaijan also has a highway connectionwithIran.

To smoothen INSTC functioning, infrastructure along the Caspian Sea is being improved. In 2024 the first container terminal in the Caspian Sea will be completed in the port of Olya, and the second stage will be commissioned in three to four years,Russiangovernmentsources told. A Russian company is also consideringthepossibilityofbuying a terminal in the Caspian Sea to operatewithintheINSTC.

Russia is also exploring the possibility of developing road infrastructure leading up to the Iranian ports. Iran’s port of Bandar Abbas handles 100 million tons of cargoeveryyear,sevenmilliontonsof cargo is exported from the port that are brought to the port by rail and the restviahighways.

India plans to open logistics hub for Indian companies in Panama: S. Jaishankar

NEW DELHI: India is exploring the possibility of opening a logistics hub for Indian companies in Panama, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has said, asserting that the country’s trade with Latin America is growingandnearing$50billion.

Piyush Goyal says ONDC poised for rapid growth in months ahead, invites all e-commerce companies to join

NEW DELHI : Union Minister of Commerce & Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution and Textiles,ShriPiyushGoyalsaidthatthe Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) of tomorrow will be a transformational engine across the world and not only in India during his addressat“EnablingBharat2.0”,aoneday workshop conducted by ONDC in

New Delhi. The Minister said that he is optimistic about a significant growth of ONDC in the next few months. He invited all e-commerce companies, big and small, to join ONDC and be part of this new bazaar that reimagines digital commerce.

He mentioned that ONDC will promote local languages, products, and cultural heritage, and create

opportunities for small businesses. He said that small artisans and workers can offer better quality through ONDC and also earn better without having to pay commission for their products. He emphasized that ONDC will foster healthycompetition,benefitconsumers and contribute to the overall growth of the digital commerce ecosystem in India.

APSEZ has sufficient cash to repay $130 million worth of senior notes

AHMEDABAD: Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone(APSEZ) hascommencedanofferto buy up to $130 million of 3.375 per cent senior notes outstanding that are due in 2024, as part of the company’s plans to prepay part of its near-termdebtmaturities.

The purchase programme will be fundedbyitscashreserves,itsaid.

After the completion of this tender offer, the company expects $520 million

worth of notes to remain outstanding. Post the offer, the company intends to offer to purchase around $130 million of theoutstandingnotesineachofthenext fourquarters.

The company may choose to either accelerate or defer this plan subject to itsownliquiditypositionandthemarket conditions, and further subject to the terms,includingthepricing,itsaid.

Adani Ports has repayment obligations worth Rs. 2,239 crore in FY24, over Rs. 14,500 crore in the years

FY25 to FY28, Rs. 6,204 crore in FY30 and then again over Rs. 8,000 crore in theyearsFY31toFY35.

The company said the tender offer for purchase of the notes will expire at 5 pm,NewYorktime,onMay22,2023.The consideration for each $1,000 principal amount of notes purchased will be $970 in respect of notes tendered by 5 pm on May 8, 2023, or $955 per $1,000 principal amount for notes tendered after the early tender date but at or before the expirationtime.

Bangladesh gives access to India for transporting goods via Seaports

CHATTOGRAM: Bangladesh has given access to India to transport goods to its own territory including the northeastern states via Chattogram andMonglaseaports.

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) issued a permanent transit order in this regard on Tuesday. “India will have to follow customs procedures for transit and transshipment goods as per the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) signed between Bangladesh and IndiaundertheAgreementontheuseof Chattogram and Mongla Ports for Movement of Goods to and from India,” statestheNBRorder.

As per the transit orders, Indian goods can be transported through four entry points with 16 transit routes — Chattogram and Akhaura in Bangladesh and Agartala in India; Mongla and Akhaura in Bangladesh to Agartala in India; Tamabil in Sylhet and Dauki in India’s Meghalaya; Sheola in

Sylhet and Sutarkandi in Assam; and and Bibirbazar in Cumilla and SrimantapurinTripura.

As per the deal, traders of India will have to pay transhipment fee of Tk 30 per tonne, security charge of Tk 100 per tonne, document-processing fee of Tk 30 (per chalan), escort charge of Tk50 (per tonne), miscellaneous administrative charge of Tk 100 (per tonne), container-scanning fee of Tk254(percontainer),andelectriclockand-sealfeeasperrules.

The operator requires to obtain a licence from Bangladesh Customs for five years to transport goods and the customs will scrutinise previous five years’ records of the applicants, the order reads. Any illegal record and any absolute outstanding of the applicants to the government will be considered as ineligibility for getting the license, it added.

India cannot transport any goods

which are prohibited by the laws of Bangladesh and carrying goods cannot be kept for more than seven days at the ports of Bangladesh. Earlier in October 2018, Bangladesh and India signed the agreement for transporting goods to and from India mainly to provide transhipment facility to India to carry goodstoitsnorth-easternstates.

India has already completed four trial runs on different approved routes — Mongla-Tamabil-Dawki, MonglaBibibazar-Srimantapur, ChattogramSheola-Sutarkandi and Dawki-TamabilChattogrambetweenthetwocountries.

The first trial run under the agreement was carried out in July 2020 when goods were transported from HaldiaportinKolkatatotheChittagong seaportandthefinaltrialruntoconnect Chattogram and Mongla ports to north eastern states via India-Bangladesh Protocol Route concluded on 7November,2022.

Welspun One wraps up investments from maiden warehouse fund with south India deal

Parks (WOLP) has announced that it has partnered with GRT Group to develop two warehousing projects in Tamil Nadu with an investment of Rs 700 crores. The two projects, both Grade A, will generate 3,000 jobs during thedevelopmentphase.

The first project is being developed through a 50:50 joint venture between GRT Group and Welspun One. It also marks the final investment of WOLP Fund 1 and results in the full commitment of the fund corpus of Rs 500 crore, the warehousing platform saidinapressrelease.

TheNationalTechnologyCentreforPorts,Waterwaysand Coasts(NTCPWC)isdevelopedunderSagarmalaprogramof Ministry of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Government of India.

The program was virtually attended by Shri Nandeesh Shukla,IRTS,Dy.Chairman &SeniorOfficialsofDeendayal PortAuthority.

As the technological arm of MoPSW, this facility will provide world class indigenous technological solutions for maritimesector.

Under the ambit of MoPSW's Sagarmala Programme, NTCPWC at IIT-Madras has been established at a cost of Rs. 77 Cr. The Institute empowers Make in India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiatives by developing cutting-edge technologies&applicationsforMaritimeSector.

DP World : Double-Stack Train services from Mundra Port to its Ahmedabad Inland Terminal launched

AHMEDABAD:

DP World, a leading global provider of smart end-to-end supply chain, has launched a new double-stack freight train facility to improve efficiencies and connectivity between its inland terminal at Ahmedabad and the MundraPort.

The maiden train was flagged off fromMundrainearlyAprilwithafull payload.

The double stack train service will further boost the connectivity of Ahmedabad and will drive better efficiency and significantly lower the overall logistics cost for cargo movement on the route even with fewer rakes, owing to the lower haulageratesandlesserorzeroport ground rent (PGR) resulting from the faster evacuation of containers fromtheport.

Speaking on the launch of the new service, Adhendru Jain, CEO Rail and Inland Terminal, DP World Subcontinent said,

“Robust infrastructure and efficient logistics are crucial for boosting economic growth andexports.Wearecommitted to strengthening our supply chain and enabling seamless connectivity to help our customers move their goods quickly and reliably to global and domestic markets. The new double stacked rail freight service will boost cargo carryingcapacitysubstantially and will open new markets for MSMEs in and around Gujarat by leveraging DP World’s world-class integrated multimodal logistics infrastructure.”

Situated about 40 km from Ahmedabad, DP World’s Ahmedabad Inland Terminal is wellconnected to the state highway and the rail network. It has a container handling capacity of more than one lakhTEUsperannum,anditoffersa host of services and features, including a customs-notified

warehouse, inventory management services, and specialised equipment to handle steel cargo. The terminal follows global safety standards and offers several value-added features such as a container repair facility andelectronicweighbridges.
