Gujarat Star Awards 10th Grand Gala Edition marks A Proud Legacy behind

Mr Samir J. Shah congratulating Daily Shipping Times for 10 years of successful journey of Gujarat Star Awards consistently with a passion, said, Technology Digitisation is inevitable in shipping industry to survive now days.

Elaborating on these, he remembered the past days of with typewriter, old-fashioned and less available zerox machines and other types of technical hazards which sometimes stalled the entire shipping operations, caused delays.

Mr Ashish Sheth, who was on dais with vast experience in this industry and running a over 100 year old company CKB Group, compares past days with present era of digitization as the age of speedy clearance everywhere. He mentioned old customs day and the fringes of processing documents from one department to other with the logistics hurdles in every point from source stations to destinations. He also shares the crossing of hurdles in and outside of those days to introduce new era of automation to the older genres, as fresh investment forthebettermentofthebusiness.

Mr Samir Shah, who also gathers vast knowledge in customs procedures, shares his experience while working with the officials while adopting or introducing newer technology for government procedural changes. There is no time to stay back or step back from technological advancements citing financial stringers, otherwise you’ll have to stay aside from the track, he mentioned. We have to cope up with the government regulatory authority as he pointed out the introduction of icegate, e-bill, e-transaction of documents, Electronic Bill of Lading as well as GPS connectivity everywhere in trucks, warehouses, required forshipment.

Mr Prashant Popat, who also has a legacy of 97 year old company Velji Dosabhai & Sons Pvt Ltd, shares the old days, bottlenecks of handling a shipment from the client to its destination. Sharing his views and experiences on pre-digital era and to introduce the automation in his years–old family business, Mr Prashant said one shouldn’t take digitization either as bad investment or use of less-manpower, but as to serve the clients with much better way.

He also focused on to good ERP system, good connectivity, and strong IT team which are needed now a days for smooth operations. He also pointed out that the present digital era also much talked about the strong cyber security fortheentire system, otherwisethesystem willcrash atanymoment.

Mr Raju Anthony -VicePresident -Commercial - Abrao Group, shares his views with the audience that, they are always to eager to adopt new technology as well as their strong backbone who are enthusiastic over to cater the best and hassle-free shipment to their clients.

The digitisation changed the customers as well the service providers from top to bottom. The team should get acquaintance to the entire process of digitisation, different tools related to it as well as a digital mental setup to take data as new asset. Post the basic setup inside the company it’s very much needed to aware its customer’s step by step process as the company’s beneficially.

A much focussed customer-centric approach with digitally related team always moves a company in load-less smooth operations. Mr Raju expressed in detail about the escalation of Abrao Group as a total technology-driven company. He viewed that every company should feel the importance of digitisation notonlyasadvancement oftechnology butatechnology withhuman touch.

In a reply to a question from Mr. Mitesh Dharamshi from Parekh Marine, Mr Raju pointed about that there may be a future ready shippers platform like Cleartrip, Make-my-trip to provide better end-to-end solutions approach to the customers. So it’s necessary for one to get digitally-acquainted with the latest technology for better serviceapproach.

Commemorating all the views of panellists, Mr Shah expressed that we should techonologically-upgrade ourselves to provide customer-centric approach in a better way. He also pointed to enhancement of technologydriven manpower from the entry level itself. He also suggested for the entry of newer generations such kind of seminar.

According to an exchange filing on BSE, SCI board had approved the Demerger Scheme for hiving off the identified non-core assets of the company on August 3, 2021. The approval for strategic divestment of SCI was given by the Union Cabinet in November 2019.

“Preliminary Information Memorandum (PIM) / Expression of Interest (EOI) was floated on 22.12.2020 for strategic divestment of entire 100% shareholding of Government of India (“GOI”) equity stake of 63.75% in Shipping Corporation of India Limited (“SCIL”). Indian shipowners move to modernise fleets as new vessel-age rules loom

MUMBAI - In an early sign of supply chain transformation in India, niche feeder lines operating on coastal or regional short-haul routes have begun to modernise their tonnage, as government revises its ship-agepolicy.

Mumbai-based operator Shreyas has just acquired two mid-size second-hand containerships, of 2,872 TEU and 2,553 TEU, to upgrade its fleet after disposing of two aging 1998-builtvessels,theSSLChennaiandSSLKochi.

The move comes as, amid growing marine environmental concerns, the Directorate General of Shipping(DGShipping),India’smaritimeadministrator,is close to releasing the final shape of legislation to restrict shipsof25yearsoldormorefromcallingatIndianPorts.

“Quality tonnage is paramount for safe and secure expansion of the maritime sector and to achieve sustainability in ocean government,” said DG Shipping in its provisional document. And a source at the Indian National Shipowners Association (INSA)said: “The recent

newacquisitionsareasignthatownershavebeguntomull over the age of vessels in the trade. This realisation has promptedoperatorstoupgrade.”

Another Mumbai-based liner industry representative noted that, besides intra-country or coastal trade tonnage, vessels deployed on Africa routings out of India were mostly older and “we will see them getting axed gradually”.

DemandforshortseashippingconnectionsinIndiahas seen some traction after the government liberalised cabotage rules in 2018 to encourage foreign-flag participation. But smaller operators, usually thriving on inducement calls, could now face competitive challenges inthechartermarket.

Severalgloballinerleaders, likeMaerskandONE,have recently launched short-haul connections out of India to serve transhipment/regional trade, and vessel redeployments have also become an industry strategy to minimisetheimpactofslowingdemand.

Adani Total, in which French energy giant Total Energies SE has a 50% stake, said the Dhamra terminal expected safety checks and testing to be completed in February, adding that all key regulatory approvalshavebeenachieved.

“The port infrastructure at Dhamra is ready to

India’s imports fell for a second consecutive year in 2022 after rising for seven years, data from analytics firm Kpler showed, with its appetite curbed by high prices due to Europe’s scramble for gas to replace supply from Russia.

WTO report nds Global trade resilient following one year of war in Ukraine

GENEVA - A new WTO information note released recently reports that global trade remained resilient and performed better than pessimistic predictions for 2022 as economies greatly affected by the war in Ukraine found alternative sources of supply. For the longer-term outlook, new WTO simulations show the importance of strengthening the multilateral trading system, with least-developed countries likely to be hardest hit if international cooperation weretobreakdown.

The note titled “One year of war in Ukraine: Assessing the impactonglobaltradeanddevelopment”estimatesthattrade growth in 2022 was above the WTO trade forecast of 3% issued in April and substantially higher than its estimates for more pessimistic scenarios for the year. The stability of global trade was also evident in global supply chains, confirmed by the 4% year-on-year growth of trade in intermediate goods in the

secondquarterof2022.

“Global trade has held up well in the face of the war in Ukraine. Despite the devastation we have seen one year on, trade flows remained open. We have not seen the worst predictions foreseen at the onset of the war. Sharply higher food prices and supply shortages have not materialized thanks to the openness of the multilateral trading system and thecooperationgovernmentshavecommittedtoattheWTO,” Chief Economist Ralph Ossa said. “Resilience will ultimately be best served by fostering deeper and more diverse international markets, anchored in open and predictable traderules,”hesaid.

Russia's exports expanded by 15.6% in value terms because of an increase in prices particularly for fuels, fertilizers and cereals. However, estimates suggest Russia's exportvolumemayhavedeclinedslightly.
