Adopt A Pet... Pets of the Week

A couple of weeks ago we got a call that the Regional Humane Society in Alabama was overflowing with puppies and they were about to euthanize to clear the shelter. We immediately sent one of our rescue partners to the shelter to pick up as many as she could fit in her transport van. We rescued over 32 dogs that day. These pups are the ones that are ready for transport this week! We believe that they are Lab mixes that are around 7-9 weeks old and are very sweet. These good looking puppies are very thankful to have rescue!

The 6 Minis

These three puppies were picked up by Animal Control as strays on the streets of South Carolina. They are littermates who all stuck together for safety and warmth! This pretty Lady was found as a stray, roaming the street in Alabama and looking for safe haven. She was brought into a shelter and she had been sitting for a long time, waiting for someone to come and get her. Her time was running out and we couldn’t bear to see poor Lady not find a loving home! She is a Doxi mix who we believe is around 8 years old, and she weighs about 13 pounds. We think she would make an absolutely perfect companion for an older couple who is looking for a sweet, loving, and quiet little dog who likes to cuddle!

Did You Know? Cars and trucks can benefit greatly from clean air filters. Many drivers are aware of the need to change the oil in their vehicles according to the intervals designated in their owners’ manuals, but few may be aware of the many benefits of changing air filters. One such benefit pertains to fuel efficiency. The automotive website CarsDirect. com notes that studies have shown that changing clogged air filters can improve fuel efficiency by as much as 10 percent and save drivers as much as 15 cents per gallon of fuel. Clean air filters also can benefit the environment. When vehicle air filters are clogged, air flow to the engine is reduced, adversely affecting vehicle emissions. Clean filters increase air flow to the engine, reducing vehicle emissions as a result. Clean air filters also can help drivers get more out of their vehicle investments. Designed to trap dirt and debris, clean air filters prolong engine life by preventing such particles from damaging engine components. Drivers can check their owners’ manuals for air filter replacement guidelines, but manufacturers generally advise drivers change their air filters every 12,000 to 15,000 miles. Such a repair is inexpensive but can go a long way toward ensuring vehicles operate as efficiently as possible.

Books For Troops Asks You To “Adopt-A-Box”

CAPITAL DISTRICT - Books for Troops has just completed its most successful year. In 2017, BFT was able to send over 1100 boxes of books (40 books/box) to the American military deployed all over world and to 25 VA hospitals within the states. While we were thrilled to provide this source of escape to our very appreciative troops, it has been very costly and only your generous support made it happen. Now we wish to repeat out record year, but our funds are low and we need your support again. Books for Troops is now presenting a challenge to those who wish to show their gratitude to our troops. We are asking you to “Adopt-A- Box,” or in other words, pay its postage of $15.00 to send it overseas or to the VA hospitals. The challenge is to see if 100 boxes can be adopted by April 30th. If so, $1500 will be raised and 100 boxes of books can be sent.

To “Adopt-a-Box” you simply send $15.00 for each box you would like to adopt to: Books for Troops, 152 Oak Brook Commons, Clifton Park, NY 12065. A tax receipt will be sent upon request. **WE ARE NOT ACCEPTING ANY BOOKS AT THIS TIME BECAUSE WE HAVE A TREMENDOUS BACKLOAD. We will notify you when this changes. The only exceptions are paperback books on history, biography and non-fiction. If you have these categories in very good condition, please contact us at: ekeegan3@nycap.rr.com.
