VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! CAPITAL DISTRICT - National non-profit Binky Patrol provides blankets for children in need locally through the Mechanicville chapter. They supply handmade blankets and hats to children who are sick, homeless, grieving or traumatized throughout Saratoga, Albany and Rensselaer Counties. No sewing experience necessary. They also need donations of materials such as cotton flannel, fabric, yardage or scraps, Polar fleece, quilt batting, postage, old clean sheets, yarn and thread. Blanket sizes range from 24x30” to twin for teens. Work on your own schedule to make blankets or help deliver them. Contact Dayle Gruder at 664-5271 or dgruder@nycap. rr.com.

COHOES BRIDGES OUT OF POVERTY PROGRAM COHOES - The Cohoes Multi-Service Senior Citizens Center is excited to announce the addition of the Cohoes Bridges Out of Poverty program as a new affiliate program, effective March 1, 2014. Cohoes Bridges will be operating under the direction of the Cohoes Senior Center, giving the program the ability to expand its services to Cohoes and the surrounding communities. The Bridges program is two-fold. It serves to further train agencies, government, schools, non-profits and businesses in the hidden rules of economic class while also training and mentoring those in generational poverty. SO. SARATOGA CO. - Care Links of Southern Saratoga County offers non medical help to 60+ seniors in Clifton Park, Halfmoon, Malta, Mechanicville, Ballston and Charlton. Friendly visiting, respite assistance, “handy helping”, and chores are some ways you can benefit from free services. Volunteers who are retired and stay at home moms are some who give back to their community. Are you wondering how much longer it is going to be possible for you to live in your home? 2ND ANNUAL MIRACLE LEAGUE POKER RUN-THE MIRACLE RIDE CAPITAL DISTRICT - Save the date May 17, 2014 for our 100 mile scenic road course through the mountains of Rensselaer, Columbia, and Berkshire Counties to raise money for sports and social programs for children and adults with disabilities. Register on the day of the ride from 9:00am-11:00am. The ride begins at 11:30am. The ride concludes at the Rensselaer Elks with a chicken bbq, food, prizes, raffles, entertainment, live music. Cost per rider – $25, passenger – $15, and picnic only – $15. HALFMOON TRANSFER STATION ANNOUNCES SPRING CLEANUP SCHEDULE FOR 2014

HALFMOON - The Town of Halfmoon Transfer Station will hold spring cleanup, - April 22,25,26, 29, May 2,3. Hours are - Tuesdays 8am-12, Fridays 12 –5pm, and Saturdays 8am-3pm. Spring cleanup is limited to town residents only, no contractors. A transfer station permit is required, and can be obtained at the Town Clerks office. You may dump household waste and construction debris free of charge during the dates above. Metal appliances, electronics and other recyclables can be dumped at no charge all year long. Paint containers must be open and dry, yard waste is accepted. Tires are not free they are charged according to size. No combustible or toxic substances allowed. Our Free Shredding Day for Town residents is on May 17th 2014, 9am – 11am at the Highway Department, at 322 Rte 146. There is a 3- bag or box limit.
