In September of 2013, the Albany Institute will open an exciting new exhibition: GE Presents: The Mystery of the Albany Mummies. This exhibition will reunite the mummies’ coffin pieces and bring ancient Egyptian objects to Albany from collections around the world. Using images of art and artifacts, Albany Institute staff will share what they have learned about the world in which our mummies lived and worked 3,000 years ago. Participants may share what they would like to know about mummies and ancient Egypt. Each program attendee will be given a free pass to the Albany Institute that will be valid through December 2013. This program will be held on Saturday, April 14th, 2012, at 10 a.m. at the Main Branch, 100 2nd Street, 274-7071 and again at 1 p.m. at the Lansingburgh Branch, 27 114th Street, 235-5310. The program is free, but please call the appropriate branch to register.

“MEAN MARY” JAMES TO PERFORM AT SLCA ‘’Mean Mary” James, a Florida native now based in Nashville, will perform in concert on April 14th at 8pm at the Sand Lake Center for the Arts. Her life has been one long road show interspersed with TV, radio, and film. She has performed more than 500 live TV shows and over 4,000 road shows—including national festivals, fairs, cruises, colleges, theaters, clubs and house concerts. This rich voiced singer, song writer and maestro of 11 instruments has recorded some of her most compelling songs to date. On her newest release, she keeps both bare feet on the country side of Americana while still burying her toes deep into her traditional roots. Tickets are $16, under 18 $10.
