CTW CELEBRATES 40 YEARS
Several people who were there at the start of Cottenham Theatre Workshop 40 years ago attended a celebration to mark this milestone at St Ives Golf Club in July. Mac Dowdy, Clive Borrow and John Unwin took part in the first presentation in 1977, called “Revueing the Situation”, a series of skits which members of the group had written for the Queen's jubilee.
Musical director Dave Bainbridge, who also acted in several productions, was there with wife Sue, another CTW stalwart as actress, singer and front of house organiser. Among the 45 people present was musical director Barbara Duckworth who took to the stage in the Venue at the Fen Edge Festival, and Kerry O’Connell, writer and director of this year's original pantomime “Aladdin”, onstage at the Village College from 29 November to 2 December.
The evening was coordinated by Matt and Gary UnwinRiches and Chrissie Kelby whose most recent starring role was as Alice in the much enjoyed “The Vicar of Dibley” earlier this year. Matt presented his father John with a canvas wallhanging showing many of his memorable CTW appearances. Gary paid tribute to John’s dedication to CTW, from the creation of the stage sets, to his sound and lighting expertise, to his myriad roles in the annual pantomimes, musicals and plays which have entertained the village. Well done CTW!
