Dear KEY CLUBBERS, Although the school year has come to a close and our exciting, fun-filled summer vacations begin anew, our key club service to not only our community, but to the world will never cease no matter what time of the year it is! As a board officer, I, along with the rest of the board, will do my absolute best in helping the community in various summer service events which we highly encourage you to attend. Even though Key Club is a high school extracurricular activity, we must continue to provide service for our community and those around us! I really hope everyone is having a great summer; I know I am! With my birthday coming up at the end of the month, it just makes me realize how quickly I’m growing and maturing into the person I will be for the rest of my life. With that said, I truly encourage everyone to make the most out of not only this summer, not only Key Club, but of each person’s own individual high school experience, because as I realized when I attended my friend’s graduation, it doesn’t last forever. And with that, I say to all of you, have fun, be safe, and I’ll see you when school starts!

Did YOU know?

A Look Back…

June During the last waning days of the school year, the CHS Key Club board members sold various breakfast items to students. Of the items up for sale, the most popular were the granola bars and juice boxes. At first I didn’t think that we would’ve been successful, but we actually made a substantial amount of money to help fund the various projects of our Key Club. In other words, it was a nice way to finish off the school year!

We give a Special Thanks! With the utmost gratitude and reverence, the CHS Key Club board would like to thank all of our members for a very successful, exciting, unforgettable Key Club year chock-full of service, fun, leadership, and inclusiveness! This year would not have been as amazing had it not been for all of you- all of your dedication, all of your participation, all of your help, and all of your bright personalities. Thank you and we sincerely hope to see all of you again next year!

Key Leader

Key Leader WHEN: June 14th-16th

WHERE: Camp Lee Canyon WHAT: -Weekend experiential LEADERSHIP program -A life changing event that focuses on HELPING OTHERS succeed -Since April 2005 Key Leader has served more than 16,400 STUDENTS at 317 Key Leader events.

My second visit to Key Leader was just as amazing as my first time there. I met new people, stepped out of my comfort zone, and definitely grew more as a leader. We had a small group of people this year, but that made the whole experience more intimate. It felt great to connect with everyone so quickly; each person there was so kind and genuine. Next year I plan to branch out and attend as a facilitator! I will always be grateful for opportunities like this that I get from Key Club. Thank you to all my fellow Key Leaders who made the weekend a memorable one.

July Service Project When: July 12th Time: 10:00 AM-12:00 PM Where: Sunset Park

On July 12, a few clubs gathered at Sunset Park to help make cards for cancer patients. Although they were simple, cards can be a source of great strength for someone who needs a little bit of support. This was an admirable event as we took a small amount of time to hopefully brighten up someone's day. Making the cards actually brightened my day up too even though its purpose are for the cancer patients. It feels satisfying knowing that I may be lifting up someone's day. I hope all goes well for them!

July DCM When: July 17th Time: 10:00 AM Where: Desert Breeze Park The LTGs of Division 28 north, south, and west and members of UNLV’s Circle K speak at the DCM.

The July DCM was a unique one as it was a join DCM, meaning the DCM comprised of clubs from both division 28 south as well as division 28 west. This extra large meeting was a great way for people in either division to learn about the events and happenings of clubs in their neighboring division! Much information was exchanged such as reviews of previous events such as the July Service Project, as well as upcoming notifications about member recruitment and divisional updates. There was also talk about the yearly, heavily anticipated Regional Training Conference! With that said, even though school ended, our commitment to service, even in the summer, never will!

What does the Board think?

Board Submissions What events did you enjoy the most last year that you anticipate the most this upcoming year? The event I enjoyed the most was the one we had at the Nevada Children Center, which we socialized with small children with disabilities and we helped them learn more on how to communicate as well. I had fun there also playing football and basketball with them, having conversations on what their plans on the upcoming summer are, and also playing tag with them. It was a wonderful experience to get to know these children better, and helping them become better individuals was the best feeling I've had. Also, the festival at Wolff Elementary was a great opportunity to help our community, I really enjoyed helping out the teachers at their booths and facilitate their shifts at the hot weather we had that day, although it was tiring, it was great seeing the kids smile throughout the whole day because of us This year, I cannot wait to have service events with the help of other high schools, and also the event this July. It will be our first division service event this summer, and it will be a great day to get to know other key clubbers around our division, and get closer to our Kiwanis!

I enjoyed attending Key Leader last year, and I can't wait to go again soon. I was a bit hesitant when I heard that it was a camp in the mountains since I have never done that before. Along the weekend, everyone became friends so quickly and it seemed like we were already a big family. I'm so glad I learned leadership skills that I was able to bring back to my own club. Even though we would stay up until midnight gaining knowledge about how to be a leader, I don't regret any minute of it. I'm excited to rekindle with old friends, meet new ones, and learn more about how to serve my club even better!

The event I enjoyed the most last year would have been the "Girl Scout's Anniversary" mainly because it was my first event as a Key Club member. I remembered the excitement and adrenaline pumping right through me and as I did my service and helping others. No words are close to defining the love and passion I received while helping little children, but simultaneously building bonds with other members. For this upcoming year, I anticipate for these service events to be as exciting or much more exciting for the new members of our club. I wish for these members to walk into their first service event with open arms letting themselves be comfortable enough to continue pursuing Key Club in all of its beauty.

With numerous fun-filled events still in my memory, I would have to say that my absolute most favorite event was RTC! Being able to do a service project, , learn more about Kiwanis and Key Club International, and cheering in one of the best spirit rallies to date are just a few of the countless reasons why I loved RTC this year! After making so many new friends within the key club community, I cannot wait to reunite with all of them again when RTC comes back around next fall

Out of the many events we get to participate in, it's hard to choose what I anticipate for the upcoming year. Elementary schools are a must. It's a refreshing feeling to be around an age group that you were once a part of, and you get to feel a lively vibe from them. Another event I look forward to is volunteering for the rock n' roll marathon as a registerer. People from across the country come to this event, and I get the chance to communicate with them while preparing them for the race. Teaming up with other schools for a service event is something else I look forward to. Seeing the motivation and meeting others helps me strive to work harder. Events such as the last Kiwanis One Day allowed me to see just how dedicated many of us were to help our community, and this is another event I'm definitely anticipating!

-Brenda Tran, Coronado KC VP

Regional Training Conference and Fall Rally South are the events I anticipate the most this upcoming year. At RTC, I got to meet new people who live in Las Vegas and share the common love of Key Club. This year our cheers and spirit will hopefully help us win the spirit battle in our Division. At FRS, I also got to meet new people from our CNH District who are active and spirited key clubbers, while getting to spend the day at Six Flags Magic Mountain. Hopefully as a Division we can all come together and use our power to win the spirit stick for our session. Through spirit and teamwork as a club we can win the spirit battle at RTC and as a division at FRS.

Questions, Comments, or Concerns?

Contact Us My favorite event this past year was the Lamping Elementary Fall Festival. Choosing to work in the haunted house, I wore a black Slender Man suit covered in polka dots, and was placed in a black room resembling my suit. Working with fellow Key Club members, we popped out of random places and scared the kids--some even got a little too excited and threw up. It was memorable being able to see the next generation, and how different they were compared to us as little kids--much more violent I would say. Personally from this event, I was able to walk out of my comfort zone and to connect with more members, as I ventured to the event alone. Events are not only about having fun with your own friends, but also about connecting with other members and working together for your community. I want to facilitate to our members that sometimes it's alright to go to an event without your best friends, because you can always make new ones--a lesson I gained out of Key Club.

In my elementary school years the frequent question of “Who do you want to be when you grow up lingered in my mind daily. Nearby Coronado High School our Coronado Key Club members volunteer every year to assist Elise L. Wolff Elementary in their school carnivals. Last school year, when I joined Key Club, it felt great to be a part of the events that were held in the fall and spring. Every single time I assist a child whether it is for a game or simply directions towards food vendors, I feel amazing. This upcoming school year I am eager to join Wolff Elementary again to offer my help towards activities, but also in creating a booth simply dedicated to Key Club. The booth can offer information to future members, spread our awareness as an organization about our key values. Overall, I am confident that with my other board members that throughout the year we will leave a mark and a legacy that is sure to be remembered in Coronado High School.

Of all the super fun events Key Club did this week, I'd have to say my favorite was the car wash. It was the club's first year doing a car wash & it well worth the wait. It was fun advertising the car wash as well- running around with posters. Also, car washing demonstrated teamwork, which is really important to help get a job done. Some people washed the car & someone was in charge of the hose. Being in charge of the hose at one time was really enjoyable! Because it was in the beginning of the school year, I met the new members at the car wash and ended up making many new friends. I helped them to realize how fun Key Club really is! I hope that next year, everyone will attend as many events as possible and end up having as much fun as I did at the car wash.

Since I wasn't able to attend RTC and Fall Rally last school year, the event that I enjoyed the most is the Color Run. The event was so fun and exciting especially when we joined the crowd or participants in throwing the color dust with loud music on the background. It was my first time attending that kind of event, and it really worth our time and effort. Whenever I looked everywhere, I saw no people who weren't smiling nor laughing. And definitely with volunteering, we couldn't avoid making new friends, young or adult. We treated each other like we've known each other before. I am looking forward to this event next school year, and I hope a lot of members will go.
