Closing Credits

Dear KEY CLUBBERS,

After just a few short weeks, my first month as the new bulletin editor has passed by really fast and has been an amazing experience so far! I’ve come to realize how much work I actually have to put into my newsletters, but each time I complete my key club work I just want to continue doing it even more. Knowing that every little thing I do to benefit the club will inevitably better our Coronado Key Club is, simply put, the best feeling in the world. My goal is to shine that light on all of you so that every single member can love this amazing club just as much as me. To all members I highly encourage you to continue to be active in the club even though the end of the year is fast approaching! We still have so many entertaining events that anyone can enjoy! Remember to finish your, to finish our, successful, fun school year out strong! With this being my last newsletter of my sophomore year, the last newsletter of this hectic school year, I wish to all of you success on your AP exams, final exams, and most importantly, to stay safe on your summer vacation, ready to volunteer, help the world, and care for othersone step at a time!

SINCERELY, MATT VILLANUEVA

April -A Look \ Back

Member of the Month Rachel Oshiro, sophomore: Her dedication, her perseverance, and her productivity has amazed everyone on board. She has perfect attendance on all key club meetings, as well as the events provided by the club. Rachel has decided to also run for class representative, as well as s division assistant. Her dedication for the club exceeds most of the members out there, and she is someone most of us can look up to as well.

Congratulations! Hands Are For Holding know? When: Friday, April 26th Time: 3:00 PM-6:00 PM Where: Nevada Children’s Center On Friday, April 26th I fortunately attended the Hands are for Holding- Child Abuse Prevention Activities at Nevada’s Children Center. At this very unique event, I volunteered as a buddy to the children, participating in various games and sports! Actually holding these kids’ hands and experiencing all of the activities with them made me realize that these kinds of events are exactly what I came to key club for- to help everyone. At first I felt at odds because this event was so different from all other service events, but once I realized that my sole visit could make these kids’ day, make these kids’ weekend, I felt so much excitement and pride in volunteering. It may have only been one day and only one visit, but this event really changed my outlook on my life and life in general!

We give Special Thanks! Thank you to all of the members that attended the Charlotte’s Web Play at The Pavilion from Friday, April 19th to Sunday, April 21st. Although there weren’t many volunteers there, we graciously thank you for your participation and dedication!

April -A Look Back Officer Training Conference

know? When: Saturday, April 27th Time: 8:00 AM-12:00 PM Where: Liberty High School My very first OTC was held at Liberty and the experience I took with me was something unforgettable. Although I did not feel well the day we had OTC, I tried to make the best of the situation. I learned new things that I will apply throughout my term, and met multiple people that have helped expand my group of Key Club friends. However, the convivial day did not end there; all the new elected officers of clubs all over our region bonded together and cooperated in making mats for the homeless. What I took out of OTC wasn't simply knowledge on my position, but love and trust of my fellow Key Club Officers.

-Kayla Arceo Coronado KC VP To Sec. A

OTC was a very successful event! I learned so much about my duties as Bulletin Editor that I hadn’t been taught previously. Even though I thought OTC would just be a review of all I learned, it was actually much more than that. I learned more about my job, forged so many new Key Club friendships, created lasting memories, and to top it all off, participated in a service event to make sleeping bags for homeless teens!

What Does the Board Think? -Board Submissions As the school year comes to close, look back at everything achieved this year in Key Club. How was your personal experience in everything Key Club? My experience with Key Club has been incredibly unforgettable this year. Starting as an officer for this year had made me more involved in Key Club, and gain more knowledge about our fellow Kiwanis. This year, was exceptionally successful for me, as I achieved presidency, I also accomplished to meet new people and get closer to my members. It was very unexpected, to be completely honest, to do so much for a club this year in high school. To stand in front of people, speak to them comfortably, and search opportunities for them to improve their leadership and involvement--it’s a different feeling. But very satisfactory.

-Sergio Linares, President This past year in Key Club has definitely been a learning experience for me. Within my first year of being on board, I have gained more leadership experience and knowledge about our club. Although there were ups and downs, I am satisfied with all of our achievements as a club. I am happy to have received so many great opportunities and I met so many inspirational people along the way. I'm so excited to see what I can accomplish in the future!

-Sabrina Fairfoot, Secretary A

Key Club, like always, has been a lifechanging experience. I feel that I am constantly learning something whether it's regarding communication or life tips. Although I struggled in the beginning of the year planning for the club with the board, our countless bickering and hard work paid off as the year became what I deem as successful. I personally don't think a club can be perfect, but Coronado came pretty darn close. Of course, it couldn't have been successful without the teamwork of the board and the members!

Key Club forged this unique meaning in my life since the day I willingly walked into the room. Throughout the year I strived to not only avail my fellow members, but to inspire them to discover this passion for Key Club. The apprehension of this entire year abides everything I perceived for not only myself, but the club as a whole. The effort each individual embedded into service impressed me, and sanctioned me to be devoted to Key Club. Our Key Club year composed a true and unforgettable meaning into my life I yearn to remember forever.

-Brenda Tran, Vice President

-Kayla Arceo, VP of Sec. A

To be honest, I was extremely discouraged from Key Club after losing elections, being butt-hurt and feeling resentment towards the board. Realizing that it was for the best, I continued Key Club as a member and wanted to continue in it further. I'm glad I did. Key Club is not about being superior to everyone else, but to be connected through service. I do feel like I accomplished my goal in Key Club: to express my love for this club as a leader. Looking back, I did really enjoy my Key Club year, though I felt as if the board needed some work, and I feel as if this year's board will do an amazing job.

My year in key club ended up being much more successful and exciting than I thought it would be. Key Club has always given me opportunities from meeting new friends to helping the community through service. Just in a blink of an eye, months of going to unforgettable service events has gone by. I never expected our club to have the amount of members we have, which is actually quite larger than other key clubs. The amount of members who show up and participate in all the events, truly shows how successful our key club has been. Although this school year may be coming to an end, a new year of bettering our school key club and the community has already begun.

-Jocelyn To, Treasurer

-Abbygail Feliciano, SAA

Although I thought my freshman year in Key Club couldn’t be surpassed, that’s exactly what my sophomore year did. Never before in my life had I felt so bound to a club by my respect for its people, its values, and its acts of assistance. From making countless friends in Key Club to being voted as the new Bulletin Editor, from becoming a better leader to exalting my pride for Key Club by cheering- from all these actions, I honestly feel like the words fulfilling, successful, and fun aren’t strong enough to display my feelings towards this amazing Key Club year!

Contact Us! -Questions, Comments, or Concerns? Key Club this year has been a more enjoyable experience than previous years. I expected the year to be spectacular and spectacular is what it was. I got to participate in more events than I have before. I met a lot of new people, experienced new experiences, & learned many lessons. I believe that this school year was successful and full of fun. Since my freshman year, I’ve suggested a car wash & we did not only one, but two and I enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to the upcoming year & I’m expecting it to be more delightful than this year has been.

-Anne B. Reyes, Senior Rep

I did not expect to learn to love a club, yet throughout my first year in Key Club I found myself nodding my head to the ideologies and characteristics expounded upon that I so admire in human beings. The influence Coronado Key Club has on me is astounding! At the beginning of the year I found myself as a hesitant member. Today I find myself as a confident Junior Class Representative and building my leadership qualities every day. Events such as the Thin Mint Sprint, the Spring Carnival, K-1 Day, Hands are for Holding, and others contribute to my overall balance with school work, sports, as well as clubs and activities within and outside of school. I have witnessed the amazing work the Board members do, and I cannot wait to expand my horizons with them in the next 2013-2014 year of Coronado Key Club.

This is my first Key Club experience- I actually joined it because everyone says it’s good for college applications but as I went to different events, I realized that it's not just about that. In order to serve or volunteer, you have to know who you're working for; understand them and know what they're experiencing. Yes, it's hard to wake up early in the morning, however, it'll be paid off not only because we're enjoying, but also we, sometimes, don't know that we're helping someone in need. Everything happened in this club this year became one of my good memories.
