Funding boost for Indigenous rangers The Coonabarabran Local Aboriginal Land Council (LALC) has secured crucial funding from the National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA) to strengthen and expand its Indigenous Ranger Program, creating permanent roles and new opportunities for women in the team. The funding will secure eight permanent, full -time Indigenous ranger positions. With a cur rent team of four rangers established in March 2024, thanks to Transport for NSW, this latest funding comes at a pivotal time, as the current contract is set to end on 31 December 2025. The new funding will allow the LALC to s e c u re t h e ex i s t i n g team permanently and expand the program to include female-specific
positions. In total, the team will consist of two co o rd i n a to r s , t h re e male rangers and three female rangers. Coonabarabran L A LC C E O B ra n d o n Nixon said the organisation was thrilled to receive the funding. “This will allow us to secure our team and continue the work we have been doing,” Mr Nixon said. “Having the inclusion of female ranger s means we can also fill our cultural obligations,
