Second major blaze rocks Binnaway Emergency services were called to another devastating fire in Binnaway this week, less than two months after a blaze destroyed the town’s only service station.

J ust befo re m idn ight on Monday, 3 November, emergency ser vices responded to reports of a house fire on Bullinda Street, Binnaway. F i r e a n d Re s c u e N S W crews from Coonabarabran and local br igades from NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) were tasked to the scene, with flames spreading to two neighbouring houses. Crews from both agencies worked side-by-side until around 4am to contain the blaze and protect a third
property. Fallen powerlines in front of the burning house made it difficult for firefighters to gain quick access, forcing them to initially attack the fire from a distance. Six Fi re and Rescue personnel and up to 10 RFS m e m b e r s a t te n d e d t h e incident, along with police and ambulance crews who supported the firefighting effort. No injuries were reported, but police confirmed one resident remains

unaccounted for. Officers from Orana Mid We s t e r n P o l i c e D i s t r i c t have established a crime scene and commenced an investigation into the cause of the blaze, which remains undetermined. Forensic Services officers at tended, but did not locate any human remains. The fire comes as another heavy blow to the tight-knit Binnaway community, still recovering from the loss of its only fuel station in early September.
