For a stable, productive & self-sufficient Puerto Rico

Founded in 2012, ConPRmetidos’ mission is to create a stable, productive, and self-su cient Puerto Rico by developing and connecting human capital to meet the island's needs.

Our Programs:

El Comeback is a platform developed by ConPRmetidos that connects professionals with Puerto Rico-based jobs. El Comeback moves Puerto Rico's economy forward by retaining and bringing talent to the island.

ConPRmetidos Construimos addresses the pressing need for construction labor on the island by o ering comprehensive training and skills development to underserved populations.

Futuro ConPR is focused on educating, guiding, and inspiring the island’s youth (14 yrs – 18 yrs) toward professional careers essential for Puerto Rico's progress and development.

Flourishing in Community is part of the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Environmental Justice Thriving Communities Grantmaking Program through Fordham University. ConPRmetidos is Fordham University’s local partner in empowering frontline communities in Puerto Rico to lead e orts for environmental and climate justice.

NGO Readiness & Disaster Mitigation strengthens the island’s local non-profits and first responders through leadership development, capacity-building workshops, and technical assistance.

Letter From Our Board

Dear Friends,

Do you remember when you were a young teen starting to think about your future and career? Some of us dreamed of becoming a famous movie star, musician, or comedian. Others dreamed of being entrepreneurs, doctors, or lawyers. We all hold dear that time of life because of the hope and promise it held. We also remember it because of our doubts and insecurities as teens, not knowing how we would get from “here” to “there” to achieve these dreams.

After nearly two decades of economic crisis, hurricanes, earthquakes, and a global pandemic, Puerto Rico’s challenges can often seem insurmountable. However, most worrying has been the discouragement felt by many of our island’s disadvantaged youth who simply do not “see” a way forward, nor can they identify local opportunities that lead to success, fulfillment, and happiness.

As you will see in this year’s Impact Report, ConPRmetidos turbocharged its e orts in human capital development by showing the next generation, particularly the island’s secondary school students from underserved public schools, the career pathways that are needed and available to them. Our team sees this sector of the island’s population as critical seeds of change and future potential for all of Puerto Rico.

Although we’ve only just begun what promises to be a multi-year e ort to positively impact the future careers of thousands of public school students, the launch of Futuro ConPR has been extremely successful, inspirational, and widely covered in local media. The program has sparked great interest not only from the students themselves but also from high school educators and guidance counselors. It has also yielded many requests from private industry and government to collaborate with us moving forward. In 2025, we urge you to join us in this enormous quest to drive the next generation of Puerto Ricans to take steps toward fulfilling their purpose through their careers and lives!

On behalf of the ConPRmetidos Board of Directors ¡GRACIAS SIEMPRE! Our team’s ability to positively impact Puerto Rican lives and futures is possible because of your faith and support. May the new year bring “paz, felicidad y salud”.

Letter From Our Executive Director

Dear Friends and Supporters,

What an extraordinary year 2024 has been! This year marked the completion of key initiatives and the launch of our new, transformative programs already making a profound impact across Puerto Rico:

NGO Disaster and Mitigation Readiness Program has empowered over 30 local nonprofits crucial to the island’s recovery. In addition to strengthening Puerto Rico’s 3rd sector’s resilience, we have amplified its ability to support communities in need. In 2025, we will continue supporting the island’s local non-profits through the Flourishing in Communities Grant Program, in partnership with Fordham University and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), by helping organizations and community leaders apply for sizeable federal government funding.

ConPRmetidos Construimos is a pilot program that reached a significant milestone by training 75 individuals in carpentry and woodworking. These newly skilled individuals now stand ready to volunteer in emergency response e orts. At the same time, some entered the construction sector—a vital need for Puerto Rico—or are using these newly developed skills in their businesses.

El Comeback Program continues to thrive and expand with an improved technological platform that helps us connect even more talent with local partnering companies, providing meaningful job opportunities that enable families to remain living and working in Puerto Rico. El Comeback has become a symbol of hope and opportunity for those seeking to remain, return, or come for the first time and build their futures here. We are committed to strengthening El Comeback, ensuring it continues to be a cornerstone for the island’s economic growth and community prosperity thus redefining the narrative of Puerto Rico’s success.

FuturoConPR is a new program launched in October with an inspiring event that brought together over 1,300 students, teachers, counselors, academics, government leaders, and private sector representatives. This e ort ignited critical conversations among key leaders - from the corporate, academic, and government sectors - about the need to guide the island’s youth toward careers essential to Puerto Rico’s future, in addition to figuring out how to close the educational gap that currently hinders their success. With FuturoConPR, we are eager to inspire and prepare our youth for the careers that will shape Puerto Rico’s development.

One lesson that has guided me over the past 12 years is this: education and collaboration are at the heart of transformative impact. Real change happens when we join hands across sectors, work together, and invest in each other’s success. Your support has been instrumental in making these achievements possible, and as we move forward, I invite you to continue walking this path with us. Together, we can create a brighter future for Puerto Rico where opportunity and economic mobility are within everyone’s reach. Thank you for believing in our mission and participating in this journey.

With gratitude and hope,

El Comeback reverses Puerto Rico's brain drain by connecting professional talent with jobs on the island. This program focuses on retaining talent living on the island, attracting new talent that has never been, and getting those who have left to return. We work hand in hand with employers in Puerto Rico who need skilled labor and people who want to live and work on the island.

An AI-driven applicant-tracking system manages our candidate database & facilitates job matching.

Employers receive a preselection of candidates to evaluate, contact & interview. (Fingers crossed) We get them a job in Puerto Rico!

FRIENDS & FAMILY

Encourage loved ones to stay or return by inviting them to explore job opportunities in Puerto Rico.

Given the number of disasters that have struck Puerto Rico over the past seven years, the need for skilled construction workers on the island is critical. Currently, there are only 35,000 trained construction workers in Puerto Rico, while the demand is for more than 50,000.

In 2024, ConPRmetidos Construimos o ered training and skills development courses in construction plus job placement services in that industry. By collaborating with companies based in Puerto Rico, we identified employment opportunities for our course graduates and connected them to additional resources and services.

For our first cohort, we provided scholarships to 75 individuals who received carpentry, joinery, and cabinetmaking training. Seventy-one of these individuals finished their courses, thus achieving a 95% completion rate. A social worker continuously assessed participants’ needs, o ered resume and interview support, and connected them with job opportunities. In addition to finding new, good-paying jobs in construction, these participants are also ready and willing to serve as volunteers for reconstruction brigades that will be deployed in the aftermath of any future natural disasters.

Our key local partners providing skills training include: Albanistería en la Brega, Casa Juana Colón, ProTechos, Instituto de Carpintería de Puerto Rico, and Atrévete Hazlo. We are also thankful to Madeline Rodriguez, the social worker who supported the graduates throughout the process.

“I am an artisan, and before this, my experience with carpentry was related to my family. My family always dedicated themselves to building, and we all worked in small brigades. When I saw the call to take the courses, I thought it was like a kind of nostalgia, and at the same time, a project that guaranteed me a long-term job, a lot of learning, and the opportunity to help Puerto Rico.”

- Sonia Parrilla, a participant in the carpentry course at PRoTechos

“I have been taking introductory courses because of what happened with (hurricanes) Irma and María. Since the nature of my work has nothing to do with construction, I wanted to help the community and anyone in need. That is where interest in manual work was born: learning about construction and reconstruction. Some women in my course had already worked with their partner, father, or other relatives. Now, they can do something professionally on their own. We all agreed that we want to be self-su cient and not depend so much on someone else to do this. Now we have the knowledge, tools, and ease of doing it.”

Twelve participants also had the chance to complete an internship run by the nonprofit organization PRoTechos. The opportunity consisted of working to reconstruct four (4) rooftops for families that could not receive economic aid from FEMA. Our contribution covered the reconstruction materials, the labor of two (2) skilled carpenters who supervised the students and worked on the construction, and a stipend to the participants who completed the internship.

Identifying Career Opportunities for Youth Identifying Career Opportunities for Youth

Descubre tu ruta profesional

Futuro ConPR promotes economic development on the island by educating, guiding, and inspiring local youth to seek professional careers essential for Puerto Rico's progress. This program was o cially launched on October 30, 2024, with a major full-day convocation from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. More than eight hundred students from grades 11 and 12 participated, accompanied by teachers and school counselors. Professionals representing industries such as technology, construction, energy, and entertainment talked to students about their studies, experiences, and the importance of lifelong learning.

Academic institutions were present, and students had access to information on how to apply to their programs. Students also had a chance to connect with future employers to explore first job opportunities. The event was hosted by Puerto Rican actress and professor Norwill Fragoso, whose energy and charisma were essential to maintaining an exciting atmosphere.

Our Executive Director, Isabel Rullan, gave a welcome speech encouraging the students to take advantage of the event, interact with professionals from various industries, and absorb knowledge from each session.

We were joined by Manuel Cidre, Secretary of the Department of Economic Development and Commerce of Puerto Rico who shared that if he had been part of initiatives such as Futuro ConPR during his youth, his path would have been di erent, thus suggesting the importance of seeking opportunities aligned with the current socioeconomic needs.

After the students went home, ConPRmetidos convened a special brainstorming session with more than 120 leaders from companies, academia, non-profit organizations, and government to explore strategies for training 50,000 people in 21st-century skills, trade jobs, and guiding young people in their careers. Presentations on the talent needs of the island - from ConPRmetidos, Invest Puerto Rico, and the Department of Economic Development and Commerce of Puerto Rico - preceded these discussions and brainstorming round tables with these island leaders.

This event was possible thanks to all our collaborators and sponsors, including the Department of Education of PR and especially our main sponsor, the Department of Economic Development and Commerce of PR, and its program, Conexión Laboral.

Technology

Students learned about technology careers and the importance of developing 21st-century skills (critical thinking, creativity, communication, collaboration, and digital literacy).

Construction

Carpenters, engineers, project managers, and a plumber presented career opportunities and talent needs in the construction industry.

Energy

The Puerto Rican electrical grid must be reliable and accessible and promote the economic development of Puerto Rico and its communities. The panelists discussed the goal of 100% renewable energy in Puerto Rico by 2050 and the jobs needed to contribute to that target.

Services to youth

After talking about all the opportunities, we knew we needed to include a presentation about the support available to them to achieve their goals.

The Importance of the “Cloud”

Banco Popular de Puerto Rico and Amazon Web Services (AWS) answered why technologies like the Cloud and artificial intelligence are fundamental elements in diverse industries.

Health

Nothing can be achieved without health, and taking care of our physical and mental health from a young age is imperative. Health is not just what we eat but what we consume from the news, what we listen to, what we think, and the exercise we do.

Entertainment industry

We could not close the event without discussing the “opportunities behind the microphone” opportunities in the entertainment industry. These include project managers, accountants, and marketing experts.

Building Capacity for Underserved Communities Building Capacity for Underserved Communities

ConPRmetidos recognizes the significance and potential impact of advancing environmental justice and addressing the needs of disadvantaged communities. Our organization has actively engaged in community revitalization and environmental justice e orts since Hurricane Maria in 2017.

Fordham University selected ConPRmetidos as their local partner in their “Flourishing in Community Grantmaker” (FIC), a federal program funded by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which will provide funding for projects that focus on environmental justice (EJ) and community-led initiatives in Puerto Rico, the US Virgin Islands, New Jersey, and New York.

With $40 million in funds available, the program’s mission is to fuel the transformation of underserved areas into vibrant communities equipped to take on past, current, and future environmental and public health challenges.

As Fordham’s partner, ConPRmetidos is in charge of the following activities in support of applicants and future sub-recipients in Puerto Rico:

• Dissemination of all grant materials in both English and Spanish;

• Conducting regional outreach activities throughout Puerto Rico, primarily focusing on remote, rural, and coastal regions to raise awareness of the Flourishing in Community Grantmaker program;

• Convening workshops to support applications, including virtual and in-person workshops with tech and internet access provided;

NGO Readiness & Disaster Mitigation

ConPRmetidos’ mission is to create a stable, productive, and self-su cient Puerto Rico by developing and connecting human capital to meet the island's needs. The third sector is estimated to produce nearly 100,000 jobs annually, representing around 15% of the total employment in the Island. Nonprofit organizations have played an essential role in Puerto Rico's emergency response and long-term recovery, in addition to providing critical services to vulnerable communities.

Recognizing its importance, our team continued providing technical assistance and professional workshops to strengthen local NGOs.

In 2024, we finished our NGO Readiness & Disaster Mitigation initiative, where 30 nonprofit organizations worked on the following topics:

• Structure a board of directors with the appropriate capacities,

• Develop an organizational strategic plan and a permanent emergency fund in case of future disasters,

• Identify new strategies to increase its financial capacity,

• Support the organization in the retention of its current workforce,

• Assist the organization to expand its personnel and number of volunteers,

• Develop the organizational capacity for mitigation,

• Human resources topics such as job descriptions for job postings/employees, employee recruitment, management of employee and contractor files, employee performance evaluation process,

• Strategic planning

• Among other related areas

Tropical Storm Ernesto Relief Efforts

Over the past seven years, the ConPRmetidos team has responded to natural disasters and emergencies, gaining valuable experience and demonstrating our ability to deliver necessary aid and support. In August of 2024, tropical storm Ernesto brought about heavy floods and knocked out electrical power and potable water services in some parts of Puerto Rico. ConPRmetidos activated its emergency plan when the U.S. National Weather Service declared the storm vigilance alert.

We then:

1. Communicated with 60+ organizations

2. Created a group chat where 47 nonprofit leaders reported needs and connected each other with resources.

3. Activated our emergency relief fund so we could have funding readily available to support communities in need and NGO allies.

After the storm passed, we provided a $5,000 grant to the nonprofit organization Taller Salud to supply food to community kitchens and families in Loiza.

Taller Salud is a community-based feminist organization dedicated to improving women’s access to health care, reducing violence within the community, and encouraging economic growth through education and activism.

In the first stage of Taller Salud’s immediate relief e orts, they provided families water, supplies, replacement of food purchases lost due to the prolonged period without electricity (since in many sectors, the power went out before the storm arrived), hygiene kits for bedridden patients, solar lamps, and items related to pest and vector control, medications and first aid kits, cleaning supplies, and garbage collection.
