≈ CZ&SK BANDS ≈ Acute Dose Genres are dead. The quartet, originally from Šumperk and now based in Brno, confidently juggles with music-styles and sends an eclectic rock mishmash out into the world. Inspired by mathrock, postpunk, cosmic rock and influences of pop, jazz, soul, psychedelia and electronics, they spit out an original sound, unrivalled on the Czech scene.

Baf.nu An innovative Prague-based electro-acoustic trio aimed at domestic, Breton and European traditional music in the Bal Folk dance style, in which Mikuláš Bryan (cistra and vocals), Daniel Kahuda (hurdy-gurdy and vocals) and Šimon Vojtík (percussion, electronics and vocals) project their creative ambitions.

Barbora Prague DJ and promoter, who takes care of the electronic music nights in the FAMU (film academy) Club and runs parties called Tetris. Her unique style combines modern kitsch with the sound of the 1990s.

Baro Chandel Baro Chandel’s musical career has been fast and stinging, like their guitar riffs. “Long-haired guys resembling Mars Volta gloriously revive the psychedelic atmosphere of the Seattle sound of the 1990s. They do not fly high in allusive clouds of opiate trips, yet the energy leaks out through their tones like antimatter, for which

_PROGRAM_EN_2018.indd 58

the texture the world is made from is too small.“

Tanečný dom: Bartošovci & Muzička (sk) The legendary Gypsy band from Čierny Balog, carriers of authentic Slovak music traditions. Tanečný dom (dance house) is a celebration of Slovak traditional dances that František and Barbora Morong are going to teach you.

Beps‘n‘Johnnies Psychedelic music of the 1960s and 1970s, garage rock and postrock. The massive sound and vibrant rhythms contrast with the atmosphere of melancholic songs interpreted by the distinctive voice of Bára Pokorná.

Beránci a vlci An Anděl 2018 award-winning magnificent project stretching between the Beskydy Mountains and the Slovácko region. Composer and bass player Marian Friedl and his friends: the Jitka Šuranská Trio & Female Choir from Kudlovice & the Association of Independent Jazzmen & RukyNaDudy (HandsOnBagpipes) Old Beskydy Music.

Billow Captivating Dream Pop, full of intimate melodies, imagination and human stories, crowned by the velvet voice of Lenka Slováková.

WE ARE A CLEAN FESTIVAL! COLOURS OF OSTRAVA SORTS WASTE!

How to sort waste for a reward?

You can sort waste at Colours of Ostrava and get a reward at the Čistý Festival [Clean Festival] stand. Just bring ten or twenty pieces of plastic or paper to the Čistý Festival stand and swap them for a scratch card. You can win up to nine recycled rewards in total. This year again, there is a special reward for thirsty fans. Twenty sorted pieces of plastic such as cups will be rewarded with a special token for one free beer!

ow to sort waste in colour-coded bins?

Waste can also be sorted into special colour-coded bins distributed throughout the festival grounds. Yellow bins are for plastics, blue for paper and grey for cans. You can also separate and bin biodegradable dishes. Our cleaning squad collects all waste from these colour-coded bins into large containers in which they are transported for further processing – recycling. If you are lucky and you are met by the Čistý Festival promotion team while sorting your waste into the colour-coded bins, you will receive a recycled reusable limited edition cup.

Colours of Ostrava is a CLEAN FESTIVAL

By sorting your waste, you will help us to get the Clean Festival certificate for the tenth time this year. This certificate is awarded by the EKO-KOM company to responsible festivals for providing facilities for waste sorting and endeavouring to keep their grounds clean.

18/7/2018 12.45 NEW GAME (Silesian University) Czech documentary, 2017, 63 min, directed by: Aleš Brunclík

This time-lapse documentary shows that a computer game may not be just a petty adventure for adolescents who need to idle away a long moment, but it may be multimedia art that is a synthesis of literature, film, music and architecture. The film offers an insight into different stages of the development of four Czech independent video games and deals with the topics of artificial intelligence and game finance.

KDYŽ PŘIJDE KRYŠTOF… (When Kryštof Comes) (Silesian University) Czech feature film, 15 min, directed by: Kristína Trníková

A film grotesque drawing on the poetics of Chaplin‘s times. Kryštof gets one of the most exquisite tasks an angel can be given by his master. He is to connect two young lives in endless love. After coming into the world of people, however, he turns to the worst: to ignore, to ridicule and being reluctant to devote his precious time to any representative of the human race. There is only one way to make Kryštof accomplish his task. He needs to get the right, attractive motivation…

14.15 GRYGAR (Silesian University)

Czech documentary/biography, 84 min, directed by: Martin Petrásek

Allow the claws of humour and giggles to bite into your body. Young, beautiful and intelligent actors from Ostrava who never use nasty words (!) will guide you through an evening of entertainment you will wish to be endless. The alpha male! No taboos. Devours everything and everyone. Robin Ferro – a sensitive mind. A gentle tiger who loves poetry and eats nothing but coconuts. Vladimír Polák – the naughty boy and intellectual. A literate beast, the star of all libraries and their canteens. Dietician and hatha yoga trainer. ≈ DESIGN ZONE ≈

This year‘s CoO Design Zone offers a varied range of artists and designers from many disciplines, whether fashion or applied design. You will meet creators mainly from the Czech Republic, but also from Slovakia and Poland. Some designers were introduced in previous years, but most of them are presenting themselves for the first time at CoO. We are delighted that an increasing number of authors are representing sustainable and local arts. The design zone has been traditionally accommodated in facilities around Tendon Hlubina, Old Bathrooms, inside the hoist tower building, and outdoors around the FullMoon Stage.

≈ COLOURS PLUS ≈ SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY CENTRE – FUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY

The Modern European Science Centre was built in the unique environment of the Dolní Vítkovice industrial premises. It consists of the small U6 Science and Technology Centre, which has been created in the refurbished extensive hall of former power exchange; and of the large Science and Technology Centre featuring four permanent displays. Dolní Vítkovice, including its Science and Technology Centre, is one of the main tourist attractions of the Czech Republic, welcoming annually more than 1.5 million visitors. 1. During Colours of Ostrava, FREE ENTRY FOR CHILDREN to the unique interactive SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY CENTRE (up to 15 years of age and 140 cm of height; must be accompanied by an adult). 2. The SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY CENTRE is part of the ČEZ Family Park competition tour. The smallest visitors (up to age 6) can visit our Children’s World and collect stamps in their score cards. 3. ENTERTAINMENT FOR ADULTS – Visit the new KLAMÁRIUM exhibition created by members of the Academy of Science of the CR and located on the ground floor of the large Science and Technology Centre. This exhibition for both children and adults will puzzle your vision with optical illusions. Small becomes gigantic, large become dwarfs, a small ball can roll upwards and your friend can fit in your palm. Enter the Klamárium and (don‘t) let it deceive you! (admission fee) 4. SCIENCE GARDEN – a new attraction in the roof garden on the large Science and Technology Centre. How does a nuclear power station work? What does matter consist of? These and many other questions will be answered by scientists working for CERN. Entry is free for festival visitors, with access through the small side gate above the entrance hall. 5. SCIENCE POINTS – we will also be in your midst within the festival grounds, having prepared stands with various entertaining experiments and tasks. Come and have fun at our colourful booths! GYROSCOPES have been installed on the grounds for the most courageous. Opening hours during Colours of Ostrava: Wed: 12.00–20.00, Thu–Sat: 11.00–20.00 - Entrance tickets can be purchased at the reception of the large or small Science and Technology Centre. The STC is one of Dolní Vítkovice attractions covered by the so-called Single Ticket. This is only valid during Colours of Ostrava, and all the attractions of Dolní Vítkovice (Bolt Tower, small and large Science and Technology Centre and Landek Park) can be visited with this ticket under preferential conditions. ArcelorMittal subsequently turns the points you score into money. You can choose one of two non-profit organisations in the Ostrava region to send the money to. Help raise funds for professional health care to the elderly, the homeless or the socially challenged people. Or support the recovery of and care for the wetlands by the rivers Ostravice and Morávka. After dancing you can enjoy the company of our Dance for Life partners: Salvation Army, Czech Union for Nature Conservation Salamandr, Mobile Hospice Ondrášek and Mental Café, who have prepared for you various entertaining workshops. New! This year we have also prepared for you a music Colours CD. For the first time it is a set of 2 CDs, first 15 000 to present the coupon will get it for free!

AGROFERT FOOD & RELAX ZONE

Come to relax and discover a harmony of tastes! In the zone prepared by Colours’ main partner, you can enjoy good food and great entertainment. Add sizzle to your platter with the spicy delicacies by Parky’s and Lada Grileman and cool yourself down with soft serve Tatra ice cream. You can enjoy these refreshments on one of the few green areas available at the festival. Recharge your batteries in the Mafra Media Group café. Get a mix of fresh coffee and information from the Czech Republic and abroad. As every year, you can tune yourself into the relaxing Fatra wave. We look forward to seeing you at the AGROFERT FOOD & RELAX ZONE next to the Gong Theatre.

OSTRAVA CITY ZONE Relaxation, refreshments and a lot of entertainment. This is what you can expect of the Ostrava City Zone – the theme this year being the 100th anniversary of the founding of Czechoslovakia. Comfortably seated under a sunshade, with a view of the main stage and near a fountain with refreshing drinking water, you can test yourself with our quiz. Stalls with sports items invite visitors to old photographs, throwing and jumping and information about the most important sports event in Ostrava this year – the Continental Cup in athletics. If you enjoy transport, don’t miss the exhibition on the history of public transport in the Ostrava region and you can talk about public space with architects at the presentation of the “fajNOVY prostor“ municipal project. Any inquiries you may have will be answered at the Ostrava Information Service. Take a souvenir picture in the photographic corner with a historical background, contemporary settings and models of famous interwar characters. Don’t hesitate! In addition to a nice time, the Ostrava City Zone promises pleasant gifts for your participation in the programme. You’ll enjoy them!

The best festival deserves the best beer service. We do everything to make sure that you enjoy beer in the best quality. A special team oversees the quality and taste of beer throughout the festival – the same that trained all the bartenders before the event. Beer goes with fun, and we provide both. In addition to great beer, the Radegast pub offers you an entertainment zone full of adrenaline attractions it the spirit of our slogan: “Life’s bitter. Thank God“.

FROTH EATERS COME TO THE COLOURS OF OSTRAVA! They are tiny, cute but gluttonous rascals who love the Kofola froth in the same way as you do! You just can’t stop them when they see a full glass. So download the Froth Eaters App and catch them at Colours before they devour all your Kofola froth!

Where can you catch them at Colours? This year again, the KOFOLA ZONE is right against the main stage at Stage 1. This is a place where you can not only have fun with Froth Eaters but also watch the main stage with your friends and with a refreshing drink in your hand. We have prepared a lot of things including the popular icy mugs and selected delicious mixed drinks from professional bartenders. And of course, Kofola on tap! Do you want to have a little break from the festival whirl? In the close vicinity of the CZECHOSLOVAK KOFOLA Stage, we have prepared the Kofola chill zone for visitors where you can peek into the world of the Froth Eaters and recharge your batteries – your own and those in your mobile phone. Come and enjoy a pleasant place to sit with the stage in view!

RESIDOMO TAKES YOU HOME Residomo offers comfortable transport from the festival to Ostrava-Poruba, Karvina, Orlova, Havirov and Frydek-Mistek. People who wish to travel at night must buy a seat reservation ticket in the Residomo stall in front of the main gate next to the info point. We recommend purchasing the ticket at the Residomo stall during the day rather than postponing the purchase to the night. Get on in Železárenská street, about 300 metres from the main gate. Finding the terminal is easy – you have to pass the acrobatic balloon night show in front of the main entrance. The breath-taking acrobatic show by Jakub Vedral under an illuminated balloon will mark the end of every festival night and serve as a point of navigation to the coloured Residomo terminals.

_PROGRAM_EN_2018.indd 92

03.07.18 9

The Residomo Foundation is doubling the proceeds from the sale of seats and using this money to help young people leaving children‘s homes to have a better start in life. About 100 thousand people live in Residomo apartments. The company also provides premises to about 1,500 businesses.

CREATIVE ZONE Baťa Meet Baťa first hand! Creative Zone Baťa builds on last year’s success, again bringing a space where you can unlock your imagination. Come to create your own unique festival souvenir from leather – bracelet, earrings, headband, wallet or key ring. Paint your shoes, T-shirt or socks. Relax in a street art chill-out zone with an anti-stress colouring picture on a huge drawing wall. Like last year, a VIP zone is ready for the Baťa club members with a number of small gifts and refreshments, but also a special programme – on Friday the autograph session of the popular singer Lenny – the face of Baťa, and the traditionally unconventional Bloges Market on Saturday, with unique fashion items from famous bloggers. Last but not least, you must not forget to visit the Baťa Shoebox stall featuring, in addition to the absolutely vital festival items, a very neat designer bag created specifically for Colours of Ostrava. Don’t forget to visit the Creative Zone Baťa!
