Ceilidh at The Clarence!

Join us for Ceilidh at The Clarence on Saturday, 1 June. Doors open at 6.30pm. We’re delighted that the excellent Skirrid Ceilidh Band will be taking charge of the event and guiding us through a night of dancing, good music and great company!

Outstanding performances in April!

We’ve had some tremendous events at the Clarence Hall over the past few weeks which have raised much-needed funds for our refurbishment! Congratulations to:

• The award-winning Abergavenny Borough Band and local community choir Cantorion Phoenix for an excellent afternoon of entertainment at their Celebrate Spring! concert. A delighted audience thoroughly enjoyed a wide repertoire of band and choral music, performed both individually and combined.

• Everyone involved in Crickhowell Raises the Roof, a music fundraising night with the inspiring Tenovus Sing with Us Abergavenny choir; Don’t Tell Billy, a combination of talented musicians from local bands Don’t Tell Johnny and the Hillbillies; and the ever popular 99% Chimp, a wellknown band from Llangynidr who raised the roof with their rock covers and filled the dance floor! Special thanks to Frank and Sam Ady from Treebeards Bar for their organisation of this event.

We’re so grateful to all the volunteers who helped out so willingly and for everyone who attended both events.

A fun-filled frolic at the Races!

Congratulations to Crickhowell FC, Bacchus Off Licence & Wine Merchants, 99% Chimp & Captain Brown’s Pizzas & Bar for a fun filled Race Night at the Clarence Hall!

Crickhowell FC and its home pitch, the Elvicta Football Ground, is the heart of the club and the community. The Club has launched a Development Drive to make the ground and facilities more comfortable for spectators and accessible for all.

In addition to the Race Night, the Club is raising funds via a Crowdfunder, which aims to raise £10,000 by early May. Further details on this are available at https:// www.crowdfunder.co.uk/p/crickhowell-fc-development-campaign-fund

The Club will also be fund raising at every home fixture; hosting a 5 aside tournament at the ground; and applying for funds from the Cymru Football Foundation to assist with a large chunk of the development.

Momentum is key to the success of this fundraiser, so please support Crickhowell FC in their ambitious plans!

Crickhowell Music Festival

As for the last 28 years, the Crickhowell Music Festival will take place over the early May Bank Holiday – that’s 3rd-6th May this year.

Headline pieces include C.P.E. Bach’s Magnificat (not to be confused with his Dad, J.S.) and Purcell’s simply magical Ode for St Cecilia’s Day, though there is much more to look forward to. Both the Saturday event, Music’s Muse and the Sunday event, Surprising Revelations, are being held at St Edmund’s Church, Crickhowell.

The choir doesn’t completely rule the roost. World renowned soloists will join Crickhowell Choral Society on Saturday and Sunday, and to start proceedings on Friday is a Welsh folk evening at the Clarence Hall with the legendary trio, VRï. Monday concludes the Festival with The Egg, a one-act opera written by former Choral Society Scholar, Tomos Jones, and featuring a treasured collection of emerging talent. This is also being performed at the Clarence Hall. For full details of performances go to www.crickhowellchoralsociety.org

Tickets are available online from the website; by calling 07816 991501; from Choral Society Members; and from Webbs of Crickhowell.

Crickhowell Music Festival

Two of the events at this year’s Crickhowell Music Festival are being held at the Clarence Hall. Launching this year’s event on Friday, 3 May at 7.30pm is one of the Welsh folk scene’s class acts – VRï. On Monday, 6 May at 3pm we’re also hosting the final event, with a performance of The Egg by Street Opera, a South Wales company dedicated to creating accessible operatic experiences. U3A

Join Crickhowell’s thriving u3a for its next meeting on Tuesday, 7 May at the Clarence Hall. Coffee is served from 10.00am, with announcements and u3a matters at 10.30am, followed by the guest speaker. Non-members are welcome to attend monthly meetings free of charge. Rug Sale

Michael Lomax’s carpet and rug sale returns to the Clarence Hall from Wednesday, 8 May to Saturday, 11 May, 10am-4pm. Entering the Hall when Mike is there is like entering Aladdin’s Cave, with stunning, vibrantly coloured, and skilfully patterned, carpets.

Torfaen Arts

The popular Crickhowell Open Studios event presents the perfect excuse to visit Crickhowell during the Spring Bank Holiday Weekend. Numerous venues across the locality will showcase the wonderful art and creativity that the area inspires. The Clarence Hall is, once again, hosting Torfaen Arts, a diverse group of both amateur and professional artists living within Torfaen. Visit us on 25-27 May, 10am-5pm, to view what will undoubtedly be another excellent exhibition!

Limehouse Lizzy

Limehouse Lizzy are the world’s number one tribute band to Thin Lizzy. On Friday, 31 May, they’re coming to the Clarence Hall, courtesy of Global Promotions. Now in their 3rd decade as a full-time professional touring act, Limehouse Lizzy continue to keep alive the spirit of Celtic rock icon Philip Lynott and his band Thin Lizzy. Tickets available from CRiC Tourist Centre, Crickhowell and at https://www.seetickets.com/event/ limehouse-lizzy/the-clarence-hall/2822427
