CRICKHOWELL’S CL ARENCE HALL

NEWSLETTER & WHAT’S ON

An amazing Autumn ahead!

Autumn at the Clarence Hall is brimming with life, colour and variety. From live music and literary evenings to markets, community gatherings and a brand-new festival, there’s something for everyone.

Highlights include a dazzling Elvis tribute with the legendary Keith Davies, two Book-ish literary evenings with bestselling authors Janice Hallett and Mick Herron and an evening of dynamic harmony from the Cân Aderyn Singers in aid of Living with Dementia. There’s soul and rhythm from Big Mac’s Wholly Soul Band, a high-energy family afternoon with British Kingdom Pro Wrestling, a rock ’n’ pop extravaganza from Uskulele, and a powerhouse tribute to Sir Tom Jones with Dean Jones and The Unusuals, courtesy of Global Promotions

The Hall also welcomes community-focused events such as the popular Vintage, Antique & Makers Market hosted by Mischievous Cow Events, a local energy day with Llangattock Green Valleys and an exciting new venture for October half-term: the Celtic Roots Festival. Crickhowell High School are celebrating excellence with an Awards Evening, our Persian Rug Sales continue throughout the season and audiences can look forward to an Afternoon Musical Tea, featuring the Welsh Recorder Orchestra and triple harpist, Eleri Darkins.

Alongside these, the Hall remains home to many much-loved local groups, including the thriving U3A, Crickhowell Garden Society, Dance Beats, Cantorion Phoenix Singers, Bingo and ESOL classes with NPTC.

And of course, Crickhowell Volunteer Bureau continue their wide-ranging programme at the Hall. New additions this month include a fortnightly Luncheon Club and Indian Head Massage group.

With such a rich mix of events, activities and groups, the Hall is set to be a lively hub this Autumn. Keep an eye out for posters, social media updates and the What’s On page of our website to find out more - https://www.clarencehallcrickhowell.org.uk/whats-on/ Clarence Hall - where community meets, stays active, learns skills & volunteers

Uskulele in full swing

The Clarence Hall was brimming with rhythm and melody in August as the Uskulele Group returned for a special Jazz & Swing Afternoon

From the first number, it was clear the audience was in for a treat. Under the engaging leadership of Ian Cooper, the group delivered a set that glided from the sultry rhythms of Sway to the romantic warmth of Blue Spanish Eyes and on to the charm of Georgia

By the time the final applause faded, it was clear that the blend of jazz, swing and ukulele had struck just the right chord. It was an afternoon of great music, shared laughter and community spirit, leaving everyone looking forward to whatever musical magic Uskulele will bring to the Clarence Hall when they return in October.

Cantorion Phoenix - the joy of music

Cantorion Phoenix is a mixed choir that rehearses at the Clarence Hall on a weekly basis. There are no auditions, no requirement to read music and the choir welcomes individuals with diverse needs. If you enjoy singing uplifting music in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, come along to the first rehearsal of the Autumn term on Tuesday, 9 September at 7.30pm. There’s no obligation to join formally or take part in concerts. You can simply enjoy the weekly sing!

The choir also loves to give back. Each year, it performs to raise funds for good causes, supporting local events, charities and care homes. Collaboration is another joy of singing together, and the choir is looking forward to joining forces with Uskulele for a special performance at the Clarence Hall in December.
