CL ARENCE HALL
NEWSLETTER & WHAT’S ON
A lively few weeks at the Clarence Hall
The past few weeks have been full of energy and variety at the Clarence Hall, with a packed programme of events showcasing music, theatre and live entertainment. From powerful performances and community fundraisers to comedy and crowd-pleasing spectacle, the Hall has once again proved itself to be a vibrant gathering place for all ages and interests.
It was fantastic to welcome live music back to the Hall with the legendary Limehouse Lizzy lighting up the stage. Their high-energy tribute to Thin Lizzy thrilled the audience and filled the Hall with classic rock anthems and an electric atmosphere. In an era dominated by streaming services and digital downloads, there’s something uniquely powerful about the live music experience and this band didn’t disappoint. A huge thank you to Global Promotions for bringing us yet another brilliant event.
Another standout occasion was the fundraising concert organised by Living with Dementia, featuring the Beaufort Male Voice Choir and Ebbw Valley Brass Band. From the opening bars to the final chord, the evening was a triumph of music, community and purpose. The audience was treated to a rich and varied programme – from familiar favourites to more challenging pieces – all performed with flair and feeling. The world-class soloists added an extra dimension of excellence, delivering standout performances that drew heartfelt applause. The presence of Yeti Television, filming for an upcoming Sky Arts documentary, added further significance to the occasion. Huge thanks go to Suzan and Mike Alderton for their work in bringing this unforgettable evening to life – a powerful reminder of how music can move and unite us.

Our next event brought something entirely different: the debut of live, professional wrestling at the Clarence Hall. British Kingdom Pro-Wrestling delivered an afternoon of action-packed entertainment that had the audience cheering and booing from the opening bell to the final showdown. With dramatic entrances, high-flying moves and larger-than-life personalities, it was everything you’d hope for from a family-friendly event. Children and adults alike joined in the fun –cheering on their heroes, jeering the villains, and sharing in the infectious excitement of live sport-theatre. It was a thrilling addition to the Hall’s events calendar and we look forward to a return visit on 19 October!

Later in the month, the Hall welcomed back Theatre Adhoc for a performance of Vice Versa – a madcap comedy loosely based on Miles Gloriosus by Plautus. The farcical tale followed the downfall of the bombastic General Braggadocio, thanks to the scheming of his concubine and servant, with help from a mischievous monkey, an amorous magistrate and a clever trick involving a Greek visitor. Full of wit and absurdity, the production had the audience laughing throughout and proved once again the calibre of talent within this popular local theatre group.
The final weekend brought a special event in support of Crickhowell High School student Charlie Thould, a talented young performer already building an impressive list of musical theatre credits. His concert, A Musical Journey, was both a celebration of his achievements and a fundraiser for his forthcoming training at Emil Dale Academy. With guest vocalists and a warmly supportive audience, it was a thoroughly enjoyable evening. We wish Charlie every success as he embarks on this exciting next chapter in his performing journey.

Whether through music, laughter or unforgettable live moments, recent weeks at the Clarence Hall have celebrated creativity, talent and the joy of shared experiences. Here’s to many more!
