CRICKHOWELL’S CL ARENCE HALL NEWSLETTER & WHAT’S ON
Robbie’s Funday!
Congratulations to the organisers of Robbie’s Funday which took place on 22 July. Due to the weather being particularly unkind, the event was moved from Crickhowell Football Club’s ground to the Hall, but nonetheless, the Crickhowell community turned out to support the event.
The Funday, which was organised in memory of Robert Davies, raised over £600 for Crickhowell Football Club and PAPYRUS, the charity for the prevention of young suicide. Well done to everyone involved in the organisation and for those who joined us in supporting the fundraising.
If you wish to donate direct to Papyrus, Robert’s memory page can be found by clicking here.
Major works begin at Clarence Hall!
The Trustees of the Clarence Hall were delighted to see the arrival last month of the huge lorry bearing the timber framing for the new extension to the hall. When complete, this new room will provide an excellent multipurpose accessible facility for the community as well as a safe and level entrance foyer, ensuring that everybody will have comfortable access to our lovely historic hall. No more struggling up those 130 year old steps! Peep in as you walk past to see how the new building is progressing.
Work inside the hall is also moving on as our new gents and ladies toilets are finished and our beautiful new kitchen makes serving the teas and coffees a positive pleasure.
We are so grateful to our many supporters who have donated to the development fund and are now busily working on further fund raising to enable full completion of our ambitious plans. Further information is available here.
The wonderful world of Oz!
On Sunday, 16 July, a packed audience at the Clarence Hall followed the yellow brick road to the wonderful world of Oz. And, thanks to the talents of Crickhowell’s Dance Beats, with a guest appearance from Toppers School of Dance and Drama, what a wonderful world it was!
The individual performers were a delight to watch, while all children performed various styles of dance with skill and enthusiasm. Toppers’ choir delivered several moving musical numbers which showcased their considerable talent. As for the Munchkins, they stole the show! How fortunate we are to have an organisation such as this in our community where creativity, imagination and dance skills are nurtured in a positive way.
Dance Beats, which is one of the Clarence Hall’s regular users, runs classes for children and young people, aged 4 to 16. A range of dance styles are taught, including contemporary, street and musical theatre routines as well as choreography and performance techniques. The classes aim to provide an environment in which children can build confidence and work creatively together. Above all, Dance Beats seeks to instil a love of dance through providing children with the opportunity to be involved in the performing arts. These fun and friendly classes operate during term time, out of school hours, at the Clarence Hall. Each term runs for approximately 12 weeks. To find out more about Dance Beats, visit their Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/dancebeats12
