How do we apply to the sixth form?
Students who already attend Claremont need to submit their A level/Diploma options form by 3 February 2025. Students are encouraged to attend the A level and Diplomas options evening which will be held on Wednesday 25 September 2024.
Are students interviewed?
All students will have an informal discussion with the headmaster for help and guidance with option choices and future pathways.
What grades do students need to get into the sixth form?
External applicants will be offered a place conditional on meeting prerequisite GCSE grades. Prospective A level students are expected to achieve an average points score of 6 points across at least 8 subjects and specifically achieve high grades in their chosen / related A level subjects.
What happens if a student doesn't get the grades required?
We are always keen to ensure students are on the right pathway and are happy to discuss alternative subject choices.
What is the ratio of girls/boys in the sixth form?
As Claremont is a co-educational environment, the aim for girls/boys split will always 50:50.
How many students are in the sixth form?
The 2024 Year 12 sixth form year group is anticipated to be around 100 students.
What are A level class sizes?
Class sizes vary in size from a minimum of 3 or 4 to around 10 to 15 students. This offers a small enough size for focused study and individual attention, yet large enough for stimulating debate and discussion.
Do you offer any BTEC’s?
September 2022 saw the introduction of two new Level 3 Applied Diplomas. Diplomas are a combination of coursework and exams, they are continually assessed as opposed to being entirely exam based. Diplomas are recognised by most UK universities and have a similar UCAS tariff profile to A levels.

How do you prepare students for university?
All students have personalised careers appointments throughout their two years in the sixth form with the head of student futures and/or higher education co-ordinator and a subjectspecific mentor. The school holds an annual student futures event, which universities and over 30 representatives from industry attend. Students also have the opportunity to visit a university fair and will receive individual support preparing personal statements and UCAS applications.
How do you support aspirational students – eg Oxbridge candidates?
We have specific mentoring available for Oxbridge and Medicine candidates including interview preparation and practice for university admissions testing.
How do you support students who are struggling?
Subject support clinics are available across all departments, aimed at stretching students but also supporting those less confident. Individual needs support is available for those students that require it.
Do students have to stay in school for a full day?
The sixth form at Claremont uses a privilege pass system. After the first half term, students can earn a privilege pass. The pass allows students greater flexibility during the school day to arrive late and leave early depending on their level of privilege.
What is the dress code for sixth formers?
In preparation for the working environment, we ask our sixth formers to wear smart business style attire.

Hi, my name is Ava and I am studying sociology, media and drama and I am the drama scholar. I am really enjoying my subjects and find sociology very interesting and different as I have not done it before. But I also love drama and media as they are more creative, and coursework led subjects.
I have been at Claremont since Year 3 and have loved it ever since. One of the many reasons I chose to stay on for sixth form was because of the friendly environment and the great deal of support. The close-knit community here at Claremont is beyond compare as I have made true friends and feel completely comfortable to talk and share with my teachers especially the heads of sixth form.
I have loved growing up at Claremont, and don’t want my journey here to end so soon. But everything I have been taught and learnt has guided me into my future pathways. That’s why I am aiming to go to university hopefully in Bournemouth or Winchester to study marketing, communications and advertising

Hi, my name is George. I’m currently studying sports science, economics and psychology at A level, all of which I massively enjoy. I joined Claremont in Year 7 from Thames Ditton Junior school and I strongly believe that staying at Claremont for sixth form was the best decision I could have made.
I chose to stay at Claremont for sixth form because of the strong bonds that I had made with both my friends and teachers which created the perfect environment for me to learn. As well as this, the wide availability to take part in sports made it hard for me to consider anywhere else.
Help and support is available everywhere from all members of staff. This was particularly important when deciding what university course to consider after school. I would like to study sports management at university, and frequent one on one meetings with careers staff made this decision much easier.

Hi, I’m

A-levels: maths, physics, computer science, and media studies. One of the aspects I appreciate the most about Claremont is how accommodating the school is to students and their individual needs There is a true focus on recognising each student's uniqueness rather than viewing us as a collective group, this really shines in the vast amount of clubs, extracurriculars and activities the school offers.
I joined Claremont in Year 9 after moving from Cape Town, South Africa to the UK. This transition was significant, but one of the main reasons I chose to stay for sixth form was the smooth transition and the sense of integration and acceptance I experienced. Claremont made this big change feel effortless and I quickly felt at home.
My favourite part about the sixth form is the closeknit community. I feel like I know everyone by name and a bit about them, which promotes a sense of belonging and individuality. The strong support system and friendly atmosphere make it a unique and enjoyable place to study.
After completing my A levels, I aspire to study aerospace engineering at university. I am particularly interested in applying to Imperial College, Cambridge, and Bristol.

Hi, tudying maths, biology and chemistry at A level.
I have been at Claremont since Year 4, and I have chosen to stay because of all the support and encouragement the teachers provide you in and outside of lessons. Additionally, the entire sixth form is a very friendly community, and the sense of unity is very welcoming.
The school has outstanding facilities which provides a variety of opportunities for you to participate in as well as the freedom and resources that you need.
I hope to go on to study biochemistry at university as I am passionate about the subject and wish to learn more.

Hi, my name is Ben and I am studying maths, economics and psychology at A level. I enjoy all my subjects and I am so grateful to all my teachers for the help and support they provide.
I decided to stay at Claremont for sixth form because it just has everything I want and need. Claremont offers all the subjects I wanted to study for A levels, the teachers are incredibly supportive and kind and they also offer many opportunities to take part and represent the school in a variety of sports.
As I approach the end of my first year in sixth form, my experience has been everything I hoped it would be. One thing that I underestimated however, is just how good the sixth form facilities really are. The sixth form centre is a great communal place to that allows you to work and interact socially.

Hi, My name is India. I have been at Claremont since nursery. I chose to stay at Claremont as it's a positive environment to be in and I have enjoyed growing up in the Claremont community.
For my A levels I chose media, photography and criminology. I really enjoy these subjects and I'm hoping to study film at university. Claremont has been really helpful throughout the years with assisting me with my subjects and supporting me with subjects I struggle with.
Throughout the years I have grown a strong bond with friends which I have made for life, along with the teachers who are understanding and encouraging along the whole journey. They also have a wide variety of sports opportunities.
I enjoy playing lacrosse and netball and have done so since I was little, and hope to continue playing these later on in university.

“The passion and dedication the sixth form team showed me throughout my time at Claremont truly resonated with me, and for the sciences, was a main reason why I’ve chosen to put myself through another five years of study. ” -Alumni

“The sixth form centre is a really great place to socialise and study. The silent study classroom is also a fantastic feature when we need it. ” -Year 12 girl
“We are given a great support system with clinics and quick email exchanges with teachers. ”
-Year 12 girl
“The sixth form team have given me good advice about university and future jobs. ” -
