Welcome

TO CLAREMONT’S JUNIOR SCHOOL

We care deeply about our pupils and we are keenly aware of the responsibility entrusted to us as we support every child through their individual educational journey.

The Claremont experience supports the development of the whole child; intellectually, socially, and emotionally, promoting key character qualities such as empathy, integrity and resilience. Our distinctive through-school approach gives us deep insight into each individual child, helping them thrive and truly understand themselves, others and the world around them.

Claremont junior school comprises Fan Court (Pre-nursery to Year 2) and Stable Court (Year 3 to 6). With excellent facilities, subject specialists and tailored provision, pupils grow in confidence and independence, building strong foundations for future achievements.

Smooth, secure transitions are central to our approach. From Pre-nursery, through the stages of junior school and beyond, we guide our children through a range of creative, practical and reassuring strategies, ensuring every pupil can progress to the next stage with confidence.

Whether you are new to Claremont or already part of our community, we are excited to be part of your child’s learning journey.

Morning session only: 8:35am to 12:00pm Full day session: ends at 3:15pm

A nurturing space for ages 3+, continuing the EYFS curriculum, introducing additional specialist teachers in computing and French, preparing our young learners for their journey towards school.

Morning session only: 8:35am to 12:00pm. Full day session: ends at 3:15pm.

The first year of formal education and the final year of the EYFS curriculum. Children will start daily maths and phonics activities (we use ELS scheme “Essential Letters and Sounds”). From Reception onwards, our broad and exciting co-curricular programme becomes an important part of Claremont life.

Key Stage 1 of the curriculum commences in Year 1. Children transition gently into more formal learning with their own desks, and ten lessons daily, balanced by regular breaks and lunch. Pupils will have their fun first writing experiences, and a balance of structured lessons and exploration. Homework is light and communication with parents is supported through Tapestry

The second year of Key Stage 1 runs to the end of Year 2. Pupils grow in independence, taking on leadership roles and enjoying broader responsibilities. A balanced timetable, including an introduction to team sport, creative opportunities, and strong pastoral support the children to feel confident and ready for the next stage, Stable Court.

To support busy working families, we offer flexible, age-appropriate wraparound care led by our own junior school staff, trusted faces who know the children well. With early dropoffs from 7.45am and pick-ups until 6pm, this nurturing provision includes a hot meal and complements the school day.

A RICH ARRAY OF SUBJECTS AND LEARNING ATTRIBUTES FOR LIFE

Subject expertise combined with our learner attributes

With our broad curriculum across science, languages, music, sport, and the arts, every pupil can explore their talents and passions. Our teaching also embeds our ten learner attributes, that develop positive foundations for the academic journey and help children become capable and well-rounded, with a confident understanding of themselves, others and the world around us, ready to thrive academically and personally.

AND OUTSTANDING OUTDOORS

Room to grow, space to breathe

At Claremont, our natural environment is integral to our ethos. Set within 100 acres of safe, secure parkland, there are endless opportunities to explore, play and discover. Children thrive within this natural environment, developing confidence, curiosity and wellbeing alongside their academic and social growth. Specific outdoor facilities for junior school children include: a walled garden, a solar powered outdoor classroom, a mud kitchen, planting gardens, ponds, bird hides, a fire pit, an outdoor stage and play equipment.

Forest school lead by specialist teachers and supported by our Year 7 Duke of Edinburgh pupils develops independence, teamwork, problemsolving and resilience, while our bird hide encourages patience, focus and observation.

Pupils also enjoy classes in our heated swimming pools in summer and early autumn.

“THE AMAZING OUTDOOR SPACE HAS BOOSTED MY DAUGHTER’S CONFIDENCE AND CURIOSITY, ADDING SO MUCH JOY TO HER LOVE OF LEARNING.”
