Welcome TO CLAREMONT
Choosing the school in which your child will grow, develop and learn is one of the most significant steps any parent takes.
We are proud of Claremont Fan Court School’s strong reputation for being a compassionate, child centred, truly co-educational school of choice for families seeking an academically ambitious environment that educates the whole child.
Set in 100 acres of beautiful landscaped grounds, Claremont is known for focussing on the academic potential of our pupils, but not at the expense of their wellbeing; for a culture that nurtures pupils’ limitless potential, not just in exams but also in equipping them with the skills to shape the world around them at university, in their careers and in the wider society beyond.
Whilst the vast majority of our pupils head to Russell Group universities, we actively encourage every pupil to pursue their own goals and passions, be that creative endeavours, the performing arts or apprentice opportunities.
We prioritise, too, an understanding of character and the way in which our relationship with others are fundamental to our successes in life, university and careers.
We warmly invite you to explore our school, meet our pupils and teachers and discover why Claremont could be the perfect fit for your child’s educational journey.
William Brierly, headmaster.
WHY CLAREMONT?
We want our pupils to be ambitious in their goals, to challenge themselves, to have a go at new things and to achieve - both inside and outside the classroom.
Pastoral care, alongside our high academic reputation and broad co-curricular programme is central to our impressive school where each child is valued, encouraged, challenged and supported to unleash their potential.
Our school community is well known for its tight-knit, warm and inclusive feel. Our students leave us, not only having achieved excellent academic outcomes, but also having established life-long friendships and an enduring connection with Claremont.
OUR VISION
In accordance with our mission, Claremont develops individuals who are outstanding citizens, aware of their responsibility to others and contribute positively to global society.
We realise this by being a high-quality school of choice where young people achieve more than they think is possible.
OUR ETHOS
Goodness underpins this school. Teachers, staff, pupils and their families are expected to support and extend the atmosphere of respect, courtesy, the love of learning and the value of friendship that is held dear at Claremont. This peaceful and purposeful intent extends throughout every lesson and into the pastoral and co-curricular activities we offer.
Young people leave Claremont as confident, contributing and caring members of the global community. They cherish the values that equip them to make a positive contribution and be a force for good in the world.
“ THIS SCHOOL IS BOOMING THANKS TO ITS REPUTATION FOR INCLUSIVITY AND CELEBRATING CHILDREN FOR WHAT THEY ENJOY AND EXCEL AT.

ADMISSIONS FAQ’S
We understand that choosing the right school for your child is a significant decision and you are encouraged to ask as many questions as you wish. In the meantime, these Frequently Asked Questions may provide the answers to some of your questions.
How selective is Claremont?
Whilst we remain a gently selective school, we do advise that applicants in Year 6 will need to be comfortably meeting national expectations in English and maths in order to keep up with the pace of our curriculum in the senior school.
How many places do you offer to external applicants?
Our main entry point into our senior school is in Year 7, where we offer in the region of 70 external places.
What papers will my child sit on the assessment day?
There will be written papers in English (both comprehension and writing), mathematics and non-verbal reasoning.
Does my child need to prepare for the assessments?
All the papers are designed to reveal the potential of the individual candidate and are age-appropriate curriculum-based assessments. There is no need for excessive revision or to engage tutors in the lead up to the assessments as we would rather have a true reflection of a candidate’s attainment.
Do all applicants progress to the interview stage?
At Claremont, we value depth of character alongside academic attainment. Following the assessment day, we endeavour to take forward the majority of students to the interview stage but, with regret, we cannot progress all applicants.
How do I apply for access arrangements?
We can arrange reasonable adjustments such as laptop or additional time. All requests will need to be supported by appropriate evidence by Monday 4 November as follows:
• A report from an educational psychologist, specialist assessor or equivalent medical practitioner (produced within two years of the entrance exam)
• Email confirmation from the current school to the admissions office that the arrangements requested are the candidate’s normal way of working
Do you offer scholarships and bursaries?
Yes, we welcome scholarship and bursary applications and the following pages detail further information.
SCHOLARSHIPS
Claremont offers a number of scholarships to outstanding applicants through the Year 7 admissions process. Our scholarship students play an active part in the school and wider school community.
There are 3 categories of scholarship available, worth up to £1000 each academic year:
• Academic
• Music
• All-rounder
All candidates are entered into consideration for the academic scholarship as part of the admissions assessments and you do not therefore need to apply for this.
All-rounder scholarship candidates must demonstrate strong evidence of s uccess in both the academic assessment and at least two of the following areas: art, drama, music, sport or citizenship.
For further information on the scholarships offered and details of the scholarship assessment process please do explore the scholarships brochure on our website which can be found here:

BURSARIES
We welcome bursary applications from families who cannot afford the fees in part or in full. All applications for bursaries are considered on the basis of individual circumstances and are means-tested.
The number of bursaries is dependent on the funds available and regrettably it is not possible to offer support to everyone who applies for assistance. Bursaries are available in addition to a scholarship or on their own.
Families who wish to explore financial support should contact the bursar’s department on 01372 473602 or email bursar@claremont.surrey.sch.uk for more information about the application process.
OUR ACADEMIC APPROACH
The curriculum and our teaching and learning is specifically designed to not just prepare students for successful examination results, but to prepare them to be successful professionals and global citizens.
We achieve this through offering a real diversity and breadth of subjects on offer, building a curriculum as much as possible around the strengths and interests of the individual learner, whilst ensuring that all students have a strong core foundation of skills and understanding.
We focus on cultivating essential skills that foster effective and independent learning, such as metacognition (the ability to self-evaluate) and problemsolving. These skills are embedded in our teaching, delivered through engaging and challenging tasks, content, and concepts.
EXPANSIVE CURRICULUM
Our flexible and innovative curriculum, along with a wide range of GCSE and A level options, enables our pupils to tailor their education in line with their individual strengths, passions and future aspirations.

In addition, the wider Joyce Grenfell enrichment programme coordinates a series of internal and external academic competitions including TED talks and podcasts, Inspire guest lectures, workshops, trips and a myriad of other opportunities for students throughout every year group.

As part of our enrichment programme, our Inspire lectures provide the opportunity for our pupils to hear the unique perspective of trailblazers and thought leaders, drawn from far ranging disciplines and careers. Our guest speakers all have remarkable stories and career journeys to share to expand the horizons and aspirations of our pupils. Example speakers include a triple Paralympian, a director of forensic psychology and a professor of technology and AI.

SCHOOL DEVELOPMENT PLANS
We are in the final stages of developing a masterplan for the next few decades to elevate our facilities and provide our pupils with a more enriching learning experience. Meanwhile we have ensured our resources have been carefully apportioned to initiatives that will benefit the whole school community in the short term, including:
Music hub opening 2024
We are thrilled to announce our new music hub is nearing completion with the conversion of our Stable Court coach houses into music classrooms, using the architectural features of these buildings to create a light and airy teaching environment for music, alongside the recently renovated practice rooms.
Joyce Grenfell centre theatre upgrade
Refurbishment of the Joyce Grenfell centre theatre will commence this year, including enhanced lighting and rigging alongside new cascade bench seating to increase the theatre’s capacity and to create a quality venue to match the productions.
Multi-purpose sports pitch
The planning and construction of an all-weather multi-purpose sports pitch is currently being explored by newly appointed pitch specialists to offer yearround access for various sports including hockey, football, lacrosse and tennis.
