DUKE OF EDINBURGH
YEAR 10 GEOGRAPHY TRIP
Year 10 geographers worked hard collecting data along the River Tillingbourne. They gathered information on the width, depth, and sediment analysis of the river. The pupils analyzed this data and continued work on their projects when they returned to the classroom!
Our bronze, silver, and gold Duke of Edinburgh pupils have been busy over the past month. The bronze DoE expedition went to Dorking, while the silver expedition ventured to Brockenhurst, walking to Ferny Croft on their first day and reaching Tile Barn campsite for their second night. Our gold DoE pupils spent four days and three nights walking in the Peak District around Kinder Scout, starting at Hathersage and finishing at Bamford, to prepare for their assessed expedition in the Lake District (which they are currently on). They were self-sufficient for the four days and have been learning all the necessary skills for their assessment.
YEAR 10 FORENSIC SCIENCE
Year 10 pupils had a Forensic Science day! They were taught criminal investigative techniques such as blood spatter and fingerprint analysis. The students also learned how our guest speakers used these and other techniques in real cases. Thank you to our head of social sciences, Miss Afsar, for organising this event!H, Adeline I, Jinny P and Frederick G.
DAY
YEAR 7 TRAVEL SHOW
On Thursday, 27th June, parents and staff joined Year 7 pupils for an unforgettable adventure at the annual Travel Show, where the students brought the wonders of the United Kingdom to life.
In their geography lessons, Year 7 pupils researched the human and physical geography of their region to sell it as a tourist destination. They impressed everyone with their enthusiasm, local knowledge, and superb displays, showcasing places from the Welsh valleys to London.
The New Dining Hall was transformed into a vibrant showcase with posters, leaflets, local delicacies, and costumes. Highlights included an archaeological dig site, a golf course, and a rare appearance from the Loch Ness monster! Homemade foods varied from Dorset knobs to Bakewell tarts.
ATHLETICS
We have had an exciting athletics season at Claremont, marked by participation in several prestigious events: the West Surrey Prep School Athletics, the English Schools Athletics (getting though into round two, and the regional fianl), and the Surrey School Athletics Championships. Our athletes have demonstrated remarkable talent and determination throughout. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all parents for their unwavering support throughout the season.
Congratulations to all athletes, who took part in either our weekly athletics meetings, which we host for many local schools, or pupils who went on to compete at higher levels. well done to Giles H, Ella S, Holly R, Lucas R, Lulu G, Josh H, Rachel R, Genevieve L, Ellie W, Eloise P, and Freya M, for their outstanding performances and dedication this season.
GOLF
This has been the first full season that Claremont Fan Court School has undertaken. Every year I write a review of the cricket season and every year I write, this has been the biggest and best season ever. The big change this year has been the girls playing hard ball fixtures every Saturday, exactly the same as the boys.
On the field, the team of the season has arguably been the boys year 8A team who made it into the first round proper of the county cup and only lost to Emmanuel through a super over after both teams were all out in the final over. The year 9 boys were also excellent with Will F the stand out player, but there has been great improvement from Ash V and Theo L who are now making more significant contributions. Similarly, the girls have played some excellent cricket, with the Yr 7’s growing in confidence and Alice B and Mia P playing some excellent innings. Ella S match winning innings against Epsom was also unquestionably a highlight in another nail biting one wicket win. All the year groups are making excellent progress and perhaps no better example was Adeline I unbeaten 50 in her final school game of the season.
Across all the teams, there have been outstanding performances; from hatrick’s to 50’s, super overs and rain, this season has been full of highlights and progress. I am already looking forward to planning and preparing for next year and having had a boys 1st XI play regularly for the first time this year, I look forward to both a boys and girls 1st XI playing in the Dunottar Cup to round off next season.
We have entered the ISGA, where our students beat St. Paul’s and made it to the finals. We played in many schools’ golf tournaments, consistently placing in the top 3 and securing a spot at the Schools Golf National Finals on July 4th. As our season draws to an end, I would like to wish Tristan G. success as he heads to the States on a golf scholarship. The students have shown remarkable dedication and skill throughout the season. Well done to all our golf players!
Tennis has finally come to an end this term. We started with over 50 players at our pre-season training and saw great success in various competitions. Our U/15 Girls and Boys reached the Quarterfinals in the LTA League, while the U/12 Girls placed 4th in the Surrey League semi-finals. The U/12 Boys won their age group at the Surrey Festival, and the U/13 Boys made it to the cup group stages at the ISTA Eton Championships. Well done to all the tennis students for their outstanding performances this season!

HOUSE UPDATE
This half term has seen the first ever house dance competition which was extremely successful and well supported by all year groups in the senior school. Emma N from Esher performed an amazing solo dance routine and was awarded first place. Amelie representing Longcross came second closely followed by a trio from Banstead who managed to work some acrobatics into their dance. Many pupils entered in teams and it was lovely to watch the pupils support each other so vocally during this competition. This term also saw the results from the tallest sunflower competition. Measuring took place on gala day and the tallest sunflower reached 88cm and was grown by Freddie G from Norwood. Gala day also saw the final of the Great Claremont bake off with 6 house teams eagerly competing for the top prize. The beautifully decorated Olympic themed cake made by Pietro and Oscar I came first an , an amazing swimming pool cake from Norwood came second. Finally, there have been many house sporting events held this term including sports day where Banstead were triumphant.
With over 28 competitions having been run competition amongst the houses has been fierce. We are pleased to announce that this years winners with 5396 points was STANMORE. Well done to everyone who has participated in an event this year and a big thank you to all the staff who have run them.
