14 new police officers joined the team, including 10 experienced lateral officers and 4 enthusiastic cadets who graduated from the Police Academy An additional Records Clerk was also hired to support administrative functions.
Barker, our new mascot, was introduced and has become a favorite among children Barker participates in daycare visits and kid-friendly events, fostering trust and reducing fear of police officers among young community members
Our patrol fleet was upgraded, replacing 21 patrol vehicles with 15 Dodge Chargers and 6 Chevy Tahoes, ensuring reliability and efficiency.
The SWAT team received upgraded body armor, helmets, and headsets to enhance safety during critical incidents
The Department achieved the Gold Standard in Law Enforcement Accreditation from the Texas Police Chief’s Association. WPD first earned accreditation in 2016 and successfully completed the rigorous reaccreditation process in 2024

In 2024, Weatherford’s Public Works Department played a vital role in strengthening our community through exceptional infrastructure maintenance, repair, and reconstruction. A total of 13 capital projects, valued at $15.7 million, were successfully completed. Among these, the reconstruction of York Avenue in historic downtown Weatherford stood out as a hallmark achievement. This project introduced new concrete paving, increased parking, inviting gathering spaces, enhanced streetscapes, and beautiful landscaping. It marked the culmination of a multi-phase improvement plan for downtown’s quadrants, reinforcing the area’s historic charm while modernizing its functionality.
The dedication of our public works team has been instrumental in ensuring that Weatherford remains a safe, drivable, and walkable community. Their tireless efforts have enhanced the quality of life for residents and visitors alike, showcasing their commitment to excellence and community well-being. With a team of 49 skilled employees, the utility operates through five key divisions: Administration, Water Purification Plant, Maintenance, Rehabilitation, and the Water Reclamation Facility.

The Electric Department plays a vital role in ensuring the reliable operation of our community by overseeing a range of critical responsibilities. These include electric system planning, distribution system construction and maintenance, substation maintenance, fiber optic system construction and upkeep, and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) of the electric system. Additionally, the department manages utility dispatch and warehousing. Operating year-round, the Electric Department is dedicated to delivering essential services that keep our community running smoothly every day of the year.

The Weatherford Public Library was recognized for its excellence in library services and programming by the Texas Municipal Library Directors Association (TMLDA), an affiliate of the Texas Municipal League. The library received the prestigious 2023 Achievement of Library Excellence Award, which recognizes libraries that demonstrate excellence in each of ten categories, including customer service, technology, and community engagement.
The Weatherford Public Library demonstrated distinction with its many programs and services including the annual Summer Reading Program, monthly homeschool events, early literacy storytimes, AARP Tax Aide, and many others.
Of the 545 public libraries in Texas, only 84 received this award in 2023, placing it in the top 15% of all public libraries in the state.
The library was awarded a generous grant this year from the Texas Book Festival. This funding will enhance the library’s picture book collection, fostering early literacy and sparking a love of reading among the community's youngest readers.
The Texas Book Festival Grant is awarded annually to libraries across Texas to support literacy initiatives and improve access to high-quality reading materials. With this funding, Weatherford Public Library is acquiring new, diverse picture books aimed at children from birth to age five an essential period for language acquisition and cognitive development.

The Annual Jack-O-Lantern Nights event received the Excellence in Programming Special Events award from the Texas Recreation and Park Society (TRAPS).
Held at historic Chandor Gardens, Jack-O-Lantern Nights transformed the 3.5-acre gardens into an immersive Halloween experience, complete with foggy pirate coves, eerie lights, and haunted pathways. Since 2020, this event has sold out each night, showing just how much it’s become a fall favorite in Weatherford.
