Weatherford operates under the council-manager form of government. The City Council consists of four members and a Mayor. The Mayor and Council Members are elected at-large by place and serve staggered three-year terms.
City administration is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the efficiency of all departments, under the direction of the City Council, and for implementing the policies, procedures, and programs established by the Council The City Manager hires and supervises a professional City Secretary in accordance with Weatherford's Home Rule Charter
The Development Services Department plays a vital role in guiding growth and development in the City of Weatherford. Through long-range planning, zoning, permitting, and code enforcement, the department ensures that development aligns with community values, protects quality of life, and supports a thriving local economy. The department is made up of four core divisions: Planning, Permitting, Inspections, and Code Compliance. Each division upholds the City’s commitment to customer service, transparency, and responsible development
Planning is responsible for the administration of the City’s comprehensive plan, zoning and subdivision ordinances, and historic preservation efforts Staff support the Planning and Zoning Commission, Board of Adjustment, and City Council with case reviews and policy recommendations that guide the City’s future land use and development
Permitting and Inspections oversee the review and approval of building permits, ensuring that construction meets city codes and safety standards This division provides support throughout the building process, from application to final inspection, helping ensure development occurs in a timely and compliant manner
Code Compliance works proactively with residents and businesses to maintain property standards, address nuisances, and promote a clean, safe, and healthy environment for all

Provides strategic leadership and direction for Services, encompassing Planning, Zoning, Cod Building Inspections, Environmental Health, Hi Preservation, and Main Street programs

Advises the Assistant City Manager, Planning & Commission, Historic Preservation Board, and C matters affecting land use and the City’s physic
Prepares, updates, and administers comprehen neighborhood and corridor plans, transportatio facility plans, and supporting maps, reports, an graphics for both current and long-range initia
Develops, implements, and enforces City code and policies related to zoning, subdivision, buil environmental health, and development stand compliance with all pertinent local, state, and f regulations.
Oversees the review and processing of zoning, subdivision, site-plan, and building permit applications; researches and analyzes requests for conformity with adopted regulations
Prepares and manages the departmental operating budget; monitors expenditures and drives fiscally responsible practices
Leads the preparation of grant applications and manages state and federal grant programs supporting community development and revitalization
Conducts complex research and data analysis; prepares technical reports, staff recommendations, agendas, and presentations for boards, commissions, and public hearings
Provides professional interpretation of codes and standards to property owners, developers, architects, engineers, and contractors; resolves conflicts and negotiates solutions in a timely, professional manner
Oversees code enforcement operations, investigates complaints, issues corrective actions and citations, and ensures consistent application of City regulations
Coordinates departmental activities with other City departments, outside agencies, neighborhood and business groups, and serves as liaison to citizen committees and economic-development organizations
Provides management direction in all hiring, training, and evaluations of personnel within each area of responsibility (department or division)
Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Community Planning, Geography, Economics, or a closely related field
Ten (10) years of experience in planning, including at least three (3) years in a progressively responsible role
Valid Texas Class C Driver’s License with a driving record that meets or exceeds City of Weatherford standards
Master’s degree in Planning, Public Administration, or a related field (may substitute for two (2) years of required experience)
Certification from the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP)
Experience in municipal planning, code enforcement, or multi-jurisdictional regulatory environments
Compensation: $132,516 – $187,075 DOE/DOQ
