July is always a special time in Weatherford, and this year is no exception! From celebrating our nation’s independence to honoring one of our sweetest hometown traditions, there’s so much to look forward to this month.
We’ll kick things off with Spark in the Park on July 4th at Heritage Park—a favorite tradition for all ages. This year’s event is full of fun, with Texas country favorite Casey Donahew headlining the concert, along with delicious food vendors, activities for the kids, and, of course, a spectacular fireworks show to light up the Weatherford sky. Bring your chairs, gather your family and friends, and let’s celebrate together.
Then on July 12, join the Weatherford Chamber of Commerce for the 40th Annual Parker County Peach Festival! This event brings thousands to our downtown square each year to enjoy shopping, dining, and indulging in all things peach. From cobbler and ice cream to tea and fresh parker county peaches.
In addition to these exciting events, Cherry Park Pool and the Weatherford Public Library are offering family-friendly activities all summer long, perfect for beating this Texas summer heat.
This time of year reminds us of what makes Weatherford so special: community, tradition, and plenty of hometown pride. I hope to see you out and about this July, enjoying all that our beautiful city has to offer.

The City of Weatherford is proud to announce that our Northwest Downtown Street Rehabilitation Project has been awarded the 2025 Project of the Year by the Texas Chapter of the American Public Works Association (APWA). The project was recognized in the Historical Restoration/Preservation – Small Cities/Rural Communities category, a testament to Weatherford’s commitment to honoring its past while investing in its future.
Public Works team members Matt Leppla and Nick Benson accepted the award on behalf of the City on June 10 during the APWA Annual Conference in McAllen, Texas.
This transformative project revitalized Dallas Avenue, York Avenue, and Spring Street, addressing long-standing infrastructure issues such as deteriorating roadways, aging water and sewer systems, and outdated sidewalks. Beyond essential repairs, the project incorporated sustainable and community-focused enhancements creating a space that is both historically respectful and functionally modern.
Key features included:
ADA-accessible sidewalks and paths
Native landscaping and thoughtful placemaking
Water and electric service pedestals
Improved drainage systems
Additional parking
Decorative streetlights and safety bollards
The project was completed under budget and ahead of schedule, all while maintaining access for local businesses and preparing the area to host the community’s beloved Peach Festival.
“This project is a shining example of what happens when thoughtful design, community values, and efficient execution come together,” said Assistant City Manager, Chad Marbut . “We’re honored by APWA’s recognition and proud of what this revitalization means for our historic downtown.”
By blending preservation with innovation, the Northwest Downtown Street Rehabilitation Project has enhanced safety, accessibility, and community pride while protecting the character that makes Weatherford unique. Congratulations to the entire Public Works team on this well-deserved recognition!
On June 18, the Weatherford Chamber of Commerce hosted a ribbon cutting for the newly revitalized Cotten-Bratton Development, a project that beautifully blends historic preservation with fresh energy in the heart of Downtown Weatherford.
Matt Hughes and Griffin Phillips brought their vision to the City with a goal: to honor the historic charm of the buildings while breathing new life into the downtown square. After much hard work and collaboration, their vision is now a reality one that adds vibrancy and lasting value to our community
The project is a true partnership between private investment and public support. In addition to Matt and Griffin’s entrepreneurial drive, the City of Weatherford contributed by repaving streets, relocating utilities, and installing an art mural that reflects our true western heritage.
One standout success within the development is Zeno’s, a local favorite known for its delicious cuisine and lively atmosphere. Its move into the historic Cotten-Bratton Building is a testament to the growing confidence in Downtown Weatherford’s future.
Joining Zeno’s is Capital Hatters, a business steeped in craftsmanship and Texas pride. Their presence further transforms this historic space into a unique and thriving destination for residents and visitors alike Together, these businesses and the developers behind them are helping write a bold new chapter for our downtown one that honors the past while building a bright future.
