OUR COMMUNITY THROUGH ugar Hill is a city for the arts. Stepping into downtown, it’s clear that the creative and clever are celebrated in the sweet city. Murals transform buildings into a canvas for the community’s history, vibrant interactive art pieces pop up from time to time, and visitors can discover pieces gifted by local artists. The Art-o-Mat, a repurposed and reimagined cigarette machine, is a work of art itself. The art vending machine offers unique, collectible art for just $5 and features pieces such as jewelry, watercolors, and miniature paintings from artists across the globe. Championed by the Sugar Hill Arts Commission, the public art gallery in downtown Sugar Hill displays rotating exhibitions of painting, drawing, calligraphy, sculpture, metal working, and other mediums of creative expression. The commission also leads the juried art show at each year’s Sugar Rush festival (pg. 5), creating an artfully festive environment for this annual event that draws thousands of visitors. With a full slate of musical and theatrical performances at The Bowl (pg. 11) and The Eagle Theatre (pg. 10) there are plenty of exciting and unique art experiences to engage with in Sugar Hill.
