Our History

The sweet city has roots that run deep. Sugar Hill has grown from a small town founded beside the Chattahoochee River to a visionary city centered around big ideas and building a lasting legacy.

Since the signing of our charter in 1939, we’ve maintained smalltown values grounded in a deep appreciation for those that laid the foundation of Sugar Hill.

The Sugar Hill Historic Preservation Society (pg. 23) plays an important role in honoring the past through the Sugar Hill History Museum (found

on West Broad Street) and historical markers placed at key landmarks.

The group also supports projects like the Sugar Hill Veterans Memorial. Located on the corner of West Broad and Church Streets, the monument honors the brave men and women of each branch of service with an eternal flame and reflecting pool.

Nearby, the Historic Sugar Hill Cemetery memorializes founders of our community. The stories of trail blazers, ancestors, and leaders remind us that in order to move forward, we must honor and learn from the past.
