The City of Oviedo, in partnership with Duke Energy and Miller Electric, has completed upgrades to the electric vehicle (EV) charging stations in the Center Lake Park parking lot. Work began onTuesday, July 15, and was finalized on September 29, 2025.
As part of the project, the old charging stations were removed, new conduits were installed, and the transformer next to the lift station was upgraded to support the enhanced system.
The two original chargers were replaced with upgraded units, each capable of charging two vehicles at once, doubling the previous capacity. The new chargers also feature a faster charging rate at 180 KW and convenient tap-to-pay technology.
“We are excited to have the new EV chargers in place for our residents and visitors to Oviedo on the Park,” said Recreation and Parks Director Paul Belden. “This will allow electric vehicle owners to visit our local restaurants and take a stroll around Center Lake Park while their vehicles charge. It’s a win-win for everyone.”
The chargers, transformer, and new parking lot markers were installed at no cost to the City. The only City expense was the replacement of three trees, funded through the existing “tree bank” program after one tree had to be removed during construction.

Ovation, a City contractor, will begin work on the Oviedo Oaks Drainage Improvement project. The work involves the removal and replacement of a storm sewer pipe and storm inlets along OrangeAvenue and with a drainage easement that extends from OrangeAvenue to Sweetwater Creek (between 957 and 947 OrangeAvenue).
The work will begin on October 13, 2025 and will be completed by the end of December 2025. While all residents will have access to their driveways, a small portion of the road will be closed for the duration of the project, so residents will need to follow a detour within the Oviedo Oaks Community.
We would like to thank the residents of Oviedo Oaks for their patience while the project is ongoing.

On Friday, September 26, 2025, three firefighters were sworn in and pinned at Oviedo City Hall. Firefighters Joshua Lamb,Andrew Harris and Ethan Loor, went through the orientation process before being assigned to their shifts following the ceremony. All three spent time working with Battalion Chiefs, Engineers, Paramedics, Lieutenants, and trainers on hose lines, hydrant work, EMS scenarios,ATV/trails, rapid rescue, search and rescue, ladders, forcible entry, extrication, live fire scenarios, and Tower Truck/Aerial operations.
“All three of these young men have shown their commitment to the fire service,” said Oviedo Fire Chief Michael Woodward. “Their enthusiasm and passion for our community will contribute to the great service we provide to the citizens of Oviedo.”
Fire Chief Michael Woodward officially swore in all three.
“What we do is a commitment to our residents, families and visitors, every day,” said Fire Chief Michael Woodward during the ceremony. “Always remain humble and never stop learning.”
Joshua Lamb is originally from Omaha Nebraska, where, after attending the University of NebraskaLincoln, he served as a healthcare administrator for almost 10 years in L.A., South Carolina and Tampa. He wanted a change in career and attended the Fire School at Pasco-Hernando State College. He was a City of St. Petersburg firefighter before he and his fiancée relocated to the Orlando area.
Ethan Loor was born and raised in Florida, specifically Longwood. He went to Lake Brantley High School before attending the FireAcademy/EMTschool at Seminole State College.
Andrew Harris grew up in Osteen, and after graduating from Pine Ridge High School, he joined the Navy He was stationed at NAS North Island in Coronado California, and served from 2018-2023. The comradery from the Navy gave him a sense of purpose which he also saw in the fire service. He went to EMT/Paramedic school at City College before graduating the FireAcademy at Seminole State College. For him, becoming a firefighter isn’t just about the job, it’s about being there for people when they need it most, while being a part of a team that feels like a family
Along with family, both firefighters were joined by City Councilmembers, Manager Bryan Cobb, Fire Command Staff, Fire Department Staff, Police staff and city staff.

Congratulations to Officers Luke Nakamura, Logan Smith and Tyler Stimpson who were presented with a 2025Award of Commendation from Deputy Chief Brian Foley. These three officers responded to a drowning call in May involving a child. When they arrived on scene, officers immediately started CPR, doing multiple cycles of compressions until the child regained a faint pulse. Officers also assisted with AED and airway clearance. Due to their actions, the child was successfully transported to the hospital. This is an example outstanding service to our community

Our Public Safety Department had a lot of fun with all members of the community, residents and visitors who came out to celebrate National Night Out.Thank you to our great partnerships and special events team who made this possible. Everyone learned a little more about policing, firefighting and what we all do. It was a night to celebrate our commitment to Oviedo.

The City of Oviedo recognizes the importance of floodplain protection and the wildlife that live within them. The Wildlife Whereabouts Initi ative is a way for residents of Oviedo to connect with their loca l wildlife and build awareness for the benefits the natural floodplains hold, as floodplains and wetlands preserve and reduce things like non-point source pollution and other habitat impacts. Additionally , preserving our natural floodplains and wetland areas reduce property damage for residents and business owners. Through th i s initiative, residents and visitors can submit photographs of thei r wildlife sightings by filling out the "Wildlife Whereabouts" Form provided online and at parks located in or around wetlands and f l oodplains. Once photograph submissions are approved and the species verified, they will be displayed on the "Whereabouts" interactive GIS map provi ded in an online Story Map. The map can be used to see the locations of these sightings around Oviedo along with educational material for each species Submit Photos Here
TheAdoptARoad Program allows residents to directly enhance pollution prevention to our surrounding surface waters. These valuable volunteers assist in the collection of right-of-way trash before it has a chance to enter our storm system and surface waters. If you wish toAdoptARoad, please contact the City of Oviedo StormwaterAdministrator. Participants must enter into a twoyear agreement and sign a liability waiver. Participants shall provide the name of the group or family to be displayed on signage that will be placed at the beginning and end of the adopted roadway segment. Participants will remove trash along the adopted roadway a minimum of six times per year. Participants will report to the StormwaterAdministrator the date and amount of trash collected; trash is normally collected and estimated in fifty-gallon trash bags. If more than three pick-ups are missed, that portion of the roadway will be placed for re-adoption, and the current signage removed. Collection bags should be left tied to the signage pole for pick-up by the Public Works Department. All adopting parties will be announced in the Oviedo in the News publication and on the City’s social media sites.

Each month we will feature a place at our facilities where you can practice healthy habits throughout the year. These spaces will include not just physical health, but mental health breaks as well.
Have you ever been to the boardwalk at Round Lake Park? If you haven't, you should go check it out. It is a half mile trek through a beautiful wooded area following the banks of Round Lake. Here you will see turtles, snakes, birds, squirrels, maybe a lovely spider's web and quite possibly an alligator lounging on the banks. The boardwalk is high enough for safety, but please do not jump the rails to get into the lake.
If you're really paying attention, you may even see our resident owl out there! Round Lake Park is located at 891 East Broadway Street, Oviedo. Head to the back of the park, past the pavilions where you will see the opening.
