The City of Oviedo PublicArts Board is inviting artists to participate in two upcoming public art projects designed to celebrate the City’s culture, history, and natural beauty

e The City of Oviedo Public Arts Board is inviting artists to participate in two upcoming public art projects designed to celebrate the Citys culture, history, and natural beauty.

Project 1: Center Lake Park Boat House Mural

The first project is a mural to be painted on the back of the Boat House at Center Lake Park. Theme: “The 100thAnniversary of Oviedo and Beyond: Past, Present, and Future.” The selected artist will receive a stipend of $3,000.

Project 2: Oviedo Boulevard Sculpture Installation

The second project seeks a sculpture for a designated space on Oviedo Boulevard at Center Lake Lane.

Artists are required to:

Provide liability insurance covering the full scope of the project.

Use durable materials suitable for Oviedo’s outdoor environment, capable of withstanding heavy rain, hurricane-force winds, sun, and humidity

Submissions for the sculpture are due by midnight, January 2, 2026.

The artwork should represent the flora and/or fauna of the City of Oviedo. It may be pictorial or abstract and may feature a single or group representation. The selected artist will receive a stipend of $25,000 for design and execution. Artists are required to: Provide liability insurance covering the full scope of the project. Use durable materials suitable for Oviedos outdoor environment, capable of withstanding heavy rain, hurricane-force winds, sun, and humidity.

Public Works Capital Improvement Projects

The Public Works team has been busy working to establish an easy-to-use story board where citizens can check on the progress of any of our capital improvement programs and repairs happening around the city This map shows all projects for:

We are pleased to announce Public Works Staff is working closely with contractors to coordinate efforts for the resurfacing of Lockwood Blvd. Due to scheduling delays, the project was pushed to November. The resurfacing is now expected to start after November 18. 2025 after a change order goes before City Council. Work is scheduled to be done in the overnight hours.

Please be aware of upcoming traffic pattern shifts when the work begins.

SA City contractor, the Storm Drain Protection Act, is going to be installing filters in storm sewer inlets within the Sweetwater Creek Basin starting November 19, 2025.

The installation is part of the Sweetwater Creek Water Quality Improvement Project to capture nutrients, bacteria, and other pollutants before they reach Lake Jesup.

The installation will take place over two (2) days and will start on November 19, 2025. The inlets will be replaced once every quarter (3 months) for a minimum duration of one year.

The City would like to thank the Florida Department of Environmental Protection for issuing a $75,000 grant for this work and their continuing efforts to keep our water clean.

Our Police and Fire Departments want to remind everyone to practice safety this holiday season. With Thanksgiving, followed by Black Friday holiday shopping, we want to provide some tips to keep you and your family safe this season!

1.Have a designated driver who will be the sober driver.

2.Plan on using a ride-share such as Uber or Lyft.

Impaired driving can lead to serious injuries or death on the road.

We know everyone wants to have a good time and enjoy the holidays, but please be responsible when it comes to grabbing the keys and heading home or to another location.

During Daylight Saving Time (Spring Forward) the following restrictions apply for Reclaimed Water (Residential and Commercial)

Residential with ODD or NO address - watering may only occur on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday

Residential with EVEN address - watering may only occur on Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday

Non-residential watering may only occur on Tuesday and Friday

The City would like to remind residents about the year-round watering restrictions that are in place for water conservation efforts. Please be sure to share this information with relatives, friends and neighbors to help with lawn irrigation. Grease and Oil poured down the drain is the #1 cause of public sewer line failures. The City of Oviedo has a Fats, Oils and Grease ordinance to ensure that commercial businesses are equipped with necessary systems to ensure proper disposal. The City recommends that residents DO NOT pour fats and waste oil down household drains.

Hot Water and detergent do not break up grease and oil. As soon as it hits cold water in sewer Lines , it solidifies and clings to the pipe walls.
