Rankin Aquatic Center Programs Summer 2024

Recreation Swim

Both the lap pool and the splash pool are open during recreation swim. Admission fee required for all guests over the age of two years old. Life jackets are available for use. Food is permitted. No glass, alcohol, knives or Styrofoam allowed in the facility. Admission Fees Apply.

Tot Splash

This drop-in swim time is for parents and young children 5 years old and under to enjoy pool time to get in the Splash Pool, before the facility opens. Adults must be in the water within arm’s reach at all times. Life jackets will be available for use. Swim diapers are required for children not potty trained and can be purchased at the front counter. Admission Fees Apply.

Lap Swim

Summer lap swim hours are available from June-August. Lap swimmers will have the ability to swim during the posted lap swim hours. During heavy use, lap swimmers will be required to circle swim and/or share a lane with other swimmers. Participants must be at least 16 years old. Punch passes can be purchased online. Aqua Fit

Join Julie Mondays and Thursdays from 5:15pm-6:00pm with a 15 minute coaching afterwards for any questions. The 45 minute classes offer water movement, HIIT segments, Balance and Aqua Wellness. Enjoy great music and multi fitness levels. Classes are for all levels of fitness both shallow and deep water.

Come join us at Rankin Aquatic Center for music, games, themed parties and night swimming.

Friday Night Splash is a great opportunity for the family to come together in a fun and safe atmosphere. All facility rules and regulations apply. Children 12 years and younger must be accompanied by a chaperone 16 years of age or older.

Rankin Aquatic Center Programs

Junior Lifeguard Camp

Build a valuable foundation to becoming a lifeguard and swim instructor!

This camp covers water safety and basic rescue skills, how to prevent aquatic accidents, how to recognize hazards, teamwork, leadership skills, and an introduction to First Aid and CPR. (Students do not receive CPR/First Aid certification in this course.)

Participants must be able to swim six laps of front crawl (freestyle) and tread water for two minutes. Please bring a swimsuit, towel, goggles, change of clothes, water bottle, sunscreen, a lunch and/or snacks to eat. Fee includes handouts, completion certificate, and T-shirt.

After completing the training, participants will be eligible to provide volunteer assistance as a Swim Lesson Aide and Junior Lifeguard.

Recreational Swim Pool Parties are an easy and popular way to hold a birthday, team, organization or office party. This package includes pool admission and a reserved picnic shelter of your choosing. Capacity for each shelter varies. Capacity is based on number of guests, not number of guests swimming. Additional guests are charged full price and may be limited due to pool capacity.

Tone & Mobility (Chair Yoga)

Chair yoga is a safe and accessible version of traditional yoga for older adults and anyone with mobility challenges. Some of its benefits include offering a low-impact workout, boosting muscle strength, enhancing flexibility and joint health, improving balance, providing a mood boost, and helps with chronic conditions. You can perform many yoga poses in a seated position using the chair to support your body.

Graton Casino

Depart Safeway at 9:15am and arrive at the Graton Casino in Rohnert Park at 11:00am. Graton Casino is the regions newest full amenity gaming resort, featuring 3000 slot machines, 144 table games, live poker room, and 13 award winning dining options, upscale and casual dining. Casino bonus package includes $20 slot play or $15 match play. Arrive back in Martinez at around 5:00pm.

Clarinet Fusion Concert

Clarinet Fusion is a San Francisco Bay Area Clarinet Choir consisting of 9 musicians on 5 different clarinets ranging from 19 inches to 9 feet. They perform all over the Bay Area and in August will be performing at the ClarinetFest in Dublin, Ireland! Join us for a delightful Spring performance located at the Martinez Senior Center. All are welcome, this event is open to the public! Tickets may be purchased online or at the door.

Dementia Family Caregiver Support Group

This is a support group for those who support others. This group is for caregivers of persons with Alzheimer’s disease or dementia. If you are looking to talk to others in similar situations, need more information, additional support, or caregiving strategies join the Dementia Family Caregiver Support Group. Meetings are the 3rd Tuesday of each month in the Senior Center Lounge.

Senior Peer Counseling

As we get older, sometimes a little help means a lot. If you are 55 or older and facing challenges that are difficult to cope with alone, our Senior Peer Counseling program can help. Participants connect with fellow seniors who are trained to provide assistance and support with challenges such as depression, fear, loneliness, the loss of a loved one, health changes, or isolation. Senior Peer Counseling is available in both English and Spanish. Services are free and confidential.

Health Insurance Counseling (HICAP)

HICAP can answer questions on Medicare, Medigap, Advantage plans, drug plans and low-income assistance. HICAP can also help with COVID-19 health plans and difficulties with filling prescriptions.

Contra Costa Senior Legal Services Free Wills Clinic

Contra Costa Senior Legal Services is sponsoring a Free Wills clinic on the last Thursday of every month.

Free simple wills, advance health care directives and powers of attorney are available to seniors with low incomes and limited resources (income of $2,500 single/$3,500 couple and no assets apart from one’s house).

No trusts will be drafted or reviewed. Appointments are available at a first come, first serve basis.

Senior Citizen’s Club of Martinez Membership Fee: $20/calendar year

The club exists solely for the enjoyment of its members and guests. The club sponsors activities, trips, card games, crafts, holiday luncheons, movies and more. It is truly a club "for its members, by its members." A membership of the SCC Martinez currently entitles seniors 50 years of age or older access to the following: bi-monthly bulletin, membership card and parking pass, monthly email blast, and priority day trip sign up.

2024 AARP Smart Driver Safety & Refresher Courses

The course is designed for drivers ages 50 and older to help update driving skills and knowledge of the rules and hazards of the road. You will learn about normal age-related physical changes and how to adjust your driving to compensate.

Pre-registration and payment (cash or check made payable to AARP only) must be made in person no later than one week prior to the class date. Space is limited! Call 925-370-8770 to check availability.

Monday–Friday from 11:30 am 12:15 pm. For participants who are over the age of 60, there is a recommended contribution of $3.00. Lunch is a mandatory $6.00 fee for those under the age of 60. To make a reservation you must call by 12:00 pm on the business day prior to the day you want to attend. You can reach Café Costa at 925-646-2598. Every year on July 1 a new Napis form will need to be filled out to receive meals. See Café Staff for forms.

Our Care Manager is available to assist seniors in making important decisions regarding nursing homes or privately owned independent living facilities. They can also provide valuable advice on how to avoid scams and fraud, ensuring the safety and well-being of our members. The Care Manager offers support, resources, and guidance to help seniors maintain their independence, dignity, and overall well-being. They work closely with seniors, their families, and healthcare providers to create a nurturing and supportive environment. No walks in allowed, call to schedule an appointment.

Adult Softball

Adult Softball Leagues play at the Joe DiMaggio Ball Fields on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. The season runs for 11 weeks with a final single elimination playoff. All teams must be registered, and the base fee must be paid online by May 31 at 4pm.

Managers Meeting for both leagues will be held Wednesday, May 29 at 6pm at Joe DiMaggio fields.
