Entering its third decade in 2018, Hong Kong’s long-running women’s sevens tournament has for a second consecutive year been granted World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series Qualifier status. Responding to the increased recognition afforded the women’s tournament, the Hong Kong Rugby Union has included the full second day of action inside the Stadium on Friday, 6 April – expanding the world-class women’s rugby on offer during Sevens weekend from the two semi-finals and cup final held last year. Twelve teams will once again contest the tournament. The first day of action is free to all members of the public and will be played at So Kon Po, immediately across from the Hong Kong Stadium. The 12 teams drawn from the six World Rugby regions are South Africa and Kenya (Africa), Mexico (Americas North), Argentina and Brazil (Americas South), China, Kazakhstan and hosts Hong Kong (Asia), Belgium, Wales and Poland – making their Hong Kong debut (Europe) and Papua New Guinea (Oceania). The Hong Kong debut of Poland brings the total of participating nations in Hong Kong’s women’s sevens event to 42. Last year’s runners-up (losing to Japan in the final) South Africa top Pool X, alongside fellow African side Kenya, and Papua New Guinea and Mexico. Pool Y sees Olympic 2016 hosts Brazil as the top seeds alongside the contingent of Asian teams with China, Kazakhstan and Hong Kong. Pool Z is home to the European sides with Wales at the top of the group ahead of Belgium, Argentina and Poland. The tournament winner will be promoted to the HSBC World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series in 2018/19, replacing the bottomplaced team on the series after the final event in Paris in June.
2018年，香港女子七人欖球賽踏入第21年，並連續第二年作為世界 女子七人欖球賽系列賽的外圍賽。 鑑於女子七人欖球賽的重要性日益增加，香港欖球總會將第二天 （4月6日，星期五）的所有女子賽事移師到香港大球場舉行。而去年這 項世界級的女子欖球比賽只有兩場半決賽和決賽在大球場舉行。 今年同樣有12支隊伍參加比賽，第一天的比賽將在香港大球場對面 的掃桿埔運動場舉行，並免費向公眾開放。 來自六大洲的 12 支隊伍包括南非和肯雅（非洲）、墨西哥（北美 洲）、阿根廷和巴西（南美洲）、中國、哈薩克和主辦城市香港（亞 洲）、比利時、威爾斯和首次參賽的波蘭（歐洲）以及巴布亞新幾內亞 （大洋洲） 。 波蘭的首次亮相令參加香港女子七人欖球賽的國家總數達到42個。 去年的亞軍（決賽落敗於日本）南非在X組排名第一，同組還有同 樣來自非洲的肯雅、巴布亞新幾內亞和墨西哥。 Y組第一位是2016年奧運會主辦國巴西，同組的其它隊伍全部來自 亞洲，分別是中國、哈薩克和香港。 Z組則多數是歐洲國家隊伍，威爾斯佔據第一位，然後是比利時、 阿根廷和波蘭。 本項賽事冠軍將晉級至下季「匯豐世界女子七人欖球賽系列賽 2018/19」，取替今年6月在巴黎舉行的系列賽末位隊伍。
