Edible Gardens

Even though our spring and summer seasons are not as long as we would like, we are still pretty lucky we can grow a great variety of edible goodies to enjoy! Many municipal facility gardens are planted with edible fruit trees, shrubs and flowers. These can be picked for free when the time is right.

Heritage Park

Located on the corner of 98 Street and 107 Avenue, Heritage Park is planted with rhubarb, chives, strawberries, gooseberries, haskap, and a variety of vegetable annuals.

City Hall

Gardens around City Hall are planted with a variety of annual vegetables.

Pomeroy Sport Centre

All the vegetation outside the Pomeroy Sport Centre facility is planted with native species to the north and most of them are edible, including rhubarb, strawberries, sour cherries, and a wide variety of apple trees.

Walking Trails

Whether you are looking for a quick loop around the block, to take in a bit of the forest, or to find the fastest route... there is an extensive trail system throughout the City.

Trail Guidelines

• Keep to the right when approaching oncoming trail users or being passed

• No unauthorized motorized vehicles permitted on the trails

• Use trash receptacles provided

• Be courteous towards other trail users

• Use the trail in a safe manner

• Dogs must be leashed in public places except the off-leash dog park

Mathews Park Upgrades

We're excited to announce some upcoming changes to Mathews Park based on the feedback we received from the Let's Talk Mathews Park public engagement that began last year! We heard from over 300 respondents about what they love about the park and how it can be improved, and we're thrilled to be making the following updates:

• Upgrades to Basketball Court: 2 half courts and 6 nets

• Fitness Obstacle Course: Providing older children and adults with a fun and challenging way to enjoy the park

• Play Structure: The existing structure will be removed

• Upgrades to Swings: New accessible and traditional swings, allowing all abilities to enjoy the park

• Rubberized Tile Surfacing: The equipment areas of the park will be updated with new rubberized tile surfacing, providing a safer and more comfortable surface to walk & play on

• Parking Lot and Trail Connection: Improvements will be made to the parking lot and trail connections in the park, making it easier to access and navigate the park

Please stay out of active construction zones and follow all signage rules.
