Local Army soldiers complete major exercise in the Canadian North Des réservistes effectuent un exercice important dans le Nord canadien

pleted NOREX 20 on March 8, 2020. Troops from London, Hamilton, Kitchener-Waterloo, Windsor, Barrie and multiple other communities across Southwestern Ontario took part. NOREX is run by the Toronto-headquartered 4th Canadian Division (4 Cdn Div), which is the Army command for the majority of Ontario. The exercise takes place in Canada’s Arctic or North, with
this year’s operations conducted in the Municipality of Greenstone, approximately 300 km Northeast of Thunder Bay from February 28 – March 8, 2020. This major exercise was conducted by 4 Cdn Div’s Arctic Response Company Group’s (ARCG), a specialized subunit that maintains an ability to command, move, and communicate under harsh weather conditions in remote locations. The ARCG is the mission task of the Grey and Simcoe Foresters, of Barrie and Owen Sound, and is reinforced with soldiers
drawn from across 31 Canadian Brigade Group, based in London, which has units all across Southwestern Ontario. Exercises like NOREX 20 fulfill several pillars of Canada’s defence policy, Strong, Secure, Engaged, to include enhancing the Canadian Armed Forces' presence in the region by demonstrating mobility, reach, and footprint. These capabilities are required to better respond to the needs of those residing in Arctic and Northern communities with humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, whenever needed. NOREX 20 participants engaged local leadership and citizen groups to enhance emergency preparedness and foster the lines of communication required to respond to crises in isolated communities. Local Northern experts from the 3rd Canadian Ranger Patrol Group supported the effort to reinforce partnerships in the area, and help ensure readiness to respond to emergencies like wildfires and floods, for example. Throughout the exercise,
soldiers demonstrated arctic survival and winter warfare skills in a harsh climate, including the maintenance and operation of snow vehicles and communications gear, operating survival equipment, and conducting patrols in both austere environments and within local communities. e 8 mars 2020, environ L 200 réservistes locaux de l’Armée canadienne ont

Des experts locaux du nord du 3e Groupe de patrouille des Rangers canadiens ont appuyé les efforts visant à renforcer les partenariats dans la région et à assurer l’état de préparation aux situations d’urgence telles que les incendies de forêt et les inondations. Tout au long de l’exercice, les militaires ont bravé un climat rigoureux pour démontrer leurs compétences en matière de guerre hivernale et de survie dans l’Arctique. Ils ont notamment travaillé dans des environnements austères, au sein de collectivités locales, pour développer leurs habiletés en matière d’entretien et d’utilisation des motoneiges et de l’équipement de communication, de survie et de patrouilles.
Reciprocal Borrowing Agreement with New Tecumseth Public Library Essa Public Library Board is pleased to announce that Essa Public Library and New Tecumseth Public Library have signed a Reciprocal Borrowing Agreement, effective March 2020. Residents who possess a valid library card in either municipality may also obtain a membership and borrow items from the neighbouring municipality. This will benefit residents who work/live/travel between the two areas, offering more comprehensive library services in the region. Additionally, this efficiency will help to reduce some costs for Inter-Library loan because patrons may independently collect and return an item from another library system, thereby reducing the cost of
staff time to prepare and mail items to our neighbours. Reciprocal Borrowing Agreements with Clearview, Springwater, Innisfil, Borden Military library, and Georgian College, have benefited Essa residents for many years already. Essa Public Library CEO, Laura Wark, commends the Essa Public Library Board for visioning a library system that strives to serve Essa Township to the best of its ability, and Essa Council for their support and interest in making Essa Township a great place to live and work.

Celebrating women... from cover ZOE CÔTÉ REPORTER JOURNALISTE The free event was an enormous success, featuring a series of keynote speakers, performers and vendors. Additionally, it brought in approximately 350 military and civilian guests, while raising over just over $4000 for charitable causes. Presenters included Kimberley Greenwood, Barrie Chief of Police, Kristin Taylor, Deputy Managing Partner Cassels LLP, Rose DiMarco, Deputy Commissioner Provincial Commander of Traffic Safety and Operational Support OPP, and Katie Weatherston, Olympic Gold Medalist in hockey. As these individuals shared their unique stories, experiences
and advice, the audience had the opportunity to learn from four women who have persevered and succeeded in historically male-dominated industries. As the speakers were separated by brief intermissions where coffee and treats were made available, attendees had plenty of time to explore the silent auction, bake sale and various local vendors. The Canadian Military Wives Choirs Borden also made its debut live performance, awing spectators with well-rehearsed vocal cohesion. International Women’s Day has been celebrated on 8 March each year since 1975 (United Nations) and acts as a focal point for the women’s rights movement and gender equality as a whole. The funds raised at CFB Borden’s IWD event will be

Celebrating in style at CFLTC: “We Had a Ball!” Il fait bon danser au CILFC!

I
n celebration of the Royal Canadian Logistics Service (RCLS) 52nd birthday, the Canadian Forces Logistics Training Centre (CFLTC) held a series of events spanning the entire week preceding the birthday; culminating in a Logistics Ball. The CFLTC Commandant (Cmdt), LCol Bennett, opened the week’s activities with a lunch and learn featuring the large scale and complex logistics operations of FedEx and Amazon. A sports day followed within the week, as well as a presentation delivered by Mr. Gareth Jones, the Chief Strategy at CFLTC, based on his service within the British military. He shared his personal experience as an Administration Clerk during the Falklands War and demonstrated the unique circumstances in which we, as military supporters, may find ourselves which stretch beyond our logistics “comfort zones.” The two unique events concluding the week of celebration were the Logistics Skills Challenge and the Logistics Ball. The Logistics Skills Challenge had 120 logistics warriors form teams and complete logistics-specific activities such as a driving circuit, building aircraft pallets, taste testing, preparing practice demolitions, weapons handling, finding references, balancing financial reports and dealing with petty cash. A the Logistics Ball, held on February 1st for all logis-
ticians at CFB Borden, the CFLTC Cmdt delivered his vision for the evening and unveiled the first edition of CFLTC’s professional logistics journal named “Praefectus Annonae” (“Leadership in Sustainment”). The evening ended with the Canadian Armed Forces String Ensemble playing an original composition as requested by the Cmdt, which was unveiled as the official CFLTC March entitled “Anytime, Anywhere.” Commemorating the 52nd Logistics birthday over the course of a week through a memorable series of events has logisticians across CFB Borden looking forward to next year’s celebrations!

Le Lcol Bennett, commandant (cmdt) du CILFC, a donné le coup d’envoi des festivités lors d’un déjeuner-causerie où ont été présentées les opérations logistiques complexes et à grande échelle de FedEx et d’Amazon. Lors du bal de la logistique, organisé le 1er février pour tous les spécialistes de la logistique à la BFC Borden, le cmdt du CILFC a dévoilé sa vision pour la soirée et a présenté la première édition de la revue professionnelle de la logistique du CILFC, intitulée Praefectus Annonae (Leadership dans le maintien en puissance). À la demande du cmdt, l’Ensemble à cordes des Forces canadiennes a clos la soirée en interprétant une composition originale, « Anytime, Anywhere », qui s’est révélée être la marche officielle du CILFC. Maintenant que la semaine d’activités mémorables pour souligner le 52e anniversaire de la logistique est terminée, les logisticiens de la BFC Borden attendent avec impatience les célébrations du 53e anniversaire!

oarding disorder was included in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (5th Edition) in May 2013. It explains that 'duty to accommodate' under the Human Rights Legislation, does not mean someone with the disorder has the right to hoard and put others at risk. Hoarding is not simply a mental health issue; it can also be a legal, personal, public health and safety issue. Hoarding, when unidentified, coupled with the untreated person of this compulsive disorder will almost certainly continue until not only a personal, but also a community health and safety hazard has been created putting themselves and others at risk. The safety risk is rated on a scale of zero to five, as follows: zero - non-existent, one - mild, two - moderate, three - severe, four - extreme and five - a crisis. Descriptions for the higher levels are as follows:
Severe: Level 3 Piles of combustibles in the doorway or in front of windows that could prevent exit or egress from the room or building. Extreme: Level 4 Piles of combustibles obstructing or blocking the path to electrical panel, or stored items cluttering or blocking stairwells preventing egress or a clear path. Crisis: Level 5 Piling combustible to close to a hot water tank or clutter of material on top of your stove.

tage, on 20 March each year. CFB Borden has recognized the day by bringing in artists and performers since 2014. This year’s event was a live comedy show, “Transparent,” starring former CAF infanteer and paratrooper, Mario Tessier on the evening of 7 March at the Terra Theatre. Not only is the “celebration a perfect opportunity to introduce French cultural activities to the young generation who will one day become our leaders,” commented Sylvie Hosick, Coordinator of Official Languages
on base, but it “also supports Part VII of the Official Languages Act to recognize our minority community of Francophones.” Official Languages collaborated with La Clé -- the largest francophone organization in Simcoe County -- to bring Mario Tessier to Borden. Tessier has a large fan base throughout Quebec and parts of Ontario and continues to grow in popularity. This show even achieved a record attendance of 225 patrons. Tessier went above and beyond the expectations of organizers, staying over two hours and filling the auditorium with laughter from start to finish. One guest, CAF member Maryleen said, “it’s exciting to have something in your language. Even if

It’s an opportunity for the different spiritual groups at CFB Borden to come together and celebrate the things we have in common, learn more about what makes each of us unique, and develop new relationships. The format is very simple: each group brings food to share with the others, and
we eat together. 75 people participated in the first “Food for the Soul” gathering, and for the second, representatives of Indigenous, Jewish, Muslim, Pagan, Protestant and Catholic groups will be present! How lucky we are to live in a country where we can all sit down at the same table and celebrate the fact that, together, each in our own way, we are contributing to the spiritual well-being of CFB Borden community members.
