Ultimately it is the makeup of our team that sets us apart and the way in which we are driven to demonstrate our company vision. With so many colleagues doing fantastic work it is no surprise we are performing so well.

The Assessment Day successful attracted top tier talent, from our job boards, referrals and social values recruitment partners. TRACY PLANT HR DIRECTOR
Tracy Plant, CIS’s very proud HR Director said:
“I would like to congratulate all our past, present and future apprentices. At CIS, apprenticeships play a fundamental part in our succession planning, from entry-level to bridging skill gaps, and developing our existing colleagues. Some of our amazing stars started their careers as school leaver apprentices and are now departmental managers.
Apprenticeships open the gateway to a wide pool of talented individuals from various backgrounds and educational levels. They enable inspiring, enthusiastic, and talented young people to thrive and become our future leaders.
Consider an apprenticeship as a journey to success!”
“I found an apprenticeship standard that really interested me – L5 Learning and Development Business Partner, which I felt could really boost my personal and professional growth. I have already seen an impact on how I approach the delivery of training, but much further than that, how we can structure and grow our reach as an L&D team, to impact as many colleagues as we can, in the most efficient, inclusive, and equitable way.”
“I chose an apprenticeship with CIS as I saw the progression and opportunities in the security industry as vast with many areas to progress in. As it is my first full time role, this job has given me experience in multiple areas, this has given me the confidence in myself to be proud of what I do. Everyone I have spoken to has been engaging and willing to help with my professional development.”
Daniel Stanger - Trainer Jack Wiseman - SET Management Apprentice
“I chose to pursue an apprenticeship with CIS as I was already working as an Admin Officer at Regent’s Place, and the course seemed like the perfect opportunity to enhance my existing skills whilst gaining new ones. I had the support of my Manager at the time, John Reynolds, who guided me in selecting the right apprenticeship and motivated me to excel, I was inspired to take this step in my professional development.”
“I chose an apprenticeship with CIS Security because it perfectly balanced practical experience and structured learning. I wanted to develop my skills in a realworld environment while gaining industryrecognised qualifications. CIS allowed me to work on meaningful projects, collaborate with professionals, and contribute to the company’s technological growth, all while advancing my career in software development.”
“My apprenticeship set the foundations for the knowledge and skillset I have developed today. This includes my in-depth understanding of the industry and customer requirements as well as my confidence and communication with colleagues and customers. Following the completion of my apprenticeship, this skillset has allowed me to excel within my roles as I have received a promotion and an award.”
“The apprenticeship has influenced my daily routine by giving me a greater sense of purpose and responsibility. It’s not just about learning theory, I’ve been able to apply what I learn in real time, which has helped me better understand the complexities of security operations. Having the confidence of my team to handle responsibilities on my own has been a huge boost to my self-esteem and has allowed me to grow both personally and professionally.”
Claude Coleman - Bid Writer
Nur Nur - Security Officer Apprentice
“I chose to do an apprenticeship as it gave me a chance to develop real-world skills, gain industry experience, and earn a qualification at the same time. Every day, I get to apply what I’m learning in a real working environment, which has boosted my confidence and helped me develop key skills like problem-solving, teamwork, and time management. Overall, my apprenticeship has been a journey of growth, learning, and achievement, and every milestone - big or small - has contributed to shaping me into a more skilled and confident professional.”
“I chose an apprenticeship with CIS as I am invested in my personal and professional development, and have aspirations to progress within the company. This apprenticeship allows me to develop my leadership and managerial skills, whilst also continuing my day-to-day job, which challenges me on a daily basis. I have been able to apply the knowledge learned from my apprenticeship, and implement this into my work to make me a more effective leader.”
“I chose a Sales and Marketing apprenticeship with CIS Security because it was a great chance to build my skills in a fast-paced, handson environment. I’ve always been interested in sales and marketing, and this apprenticeship gave me the perfect mix of real experience and learning from industry professionals. CIS stood out as the ideal place to grow because CIS allows me to incorporate my skills with real projects where I could make an impact.”
GOING FROM STRENGTH TO STRENGTH
We are proud to announce some great results from our apprentices who have been going above and beyond, working hard in their job roles but still finding time to study.
20% received Distinction grade 30% received Merit grade 50% received Pass grade
The above results were achieved through a combination of hard work and dedication from our apprentices, the right support and guidance from their amazing managers, and whilst working in collaboration with our trusted apprenticeship training partners.
We look forward to many more great results coming through the pipeline, with our current and future cohorts.
So far, a total of 25 apprenticeships have been successfully completed within CIS, with over 60 colleagues still studying and working towards their completion. On average, 6 colleagues are enrolling onto a new apprenticeship each month, taking full advantage of the funded training available to all colleagues, and the benefits that come with self-development.
If any colleagues are interested in an apprenticeship, you can check out the session on EdApp that gives lots more detail and instructions on how to enroll. Talk to your manager or email the Apprenticeships inbox: apprenticeships@cis-security.co.uk
SECURITY FIRST LINE MANAGER APPRENTICESHIP
AHMER RIZVI
SECURITY OPERATIONS SUPPORT MANAGER
A huge well done to Ahmer Rizvi, Security Operations Support Manager at Knightsbridge Estate for completing his final assessment ahead of schedule.
Ahmer Rizvi stated:
“I wanted to take a moment to sincerely thank you for your support during my apprenticeship. The dedicated timings and space you provided allowed me to focus on my studies and successfully complete my apprenticeship. Your consideration has been invaluable in helping me achieve this milestone.”
Mathew
Haider, Mercury Assessor Feedback:
“Excellent observation. Ahmer (Riz) has an excellent knowledge of his site, having been there since its inception. Riz’s ability to communicate with those around him respectfully and professionally is key to a successful security service. Riz has written toolbox talks for the security team, which are key to success. It is clear the officers, senior management, staff, and clients all hold a high level of respect for Riz— he is a credit to his organisation. Well done!”
GOING ABOVE AND BEYOND
John Salthouse, Security Manager at MidCity Place has been hard at work completing his Level 5 Operations Manager programme, whilst stepping into a new role as Security Manager at MidCity Place.
Currently working on a bleed kit project for the site, John is applying some of the valuable skills and knowledge gained from his Level 5 course, demonstrating his commitment to both professional development and site safety.
John’s Coach/Mentor, Colin,
said:
“John is an excellent learner, and he is progressing well. He listens well to the feedback given and always tries to implement what he has learnt.”
Another great example of how the apprenticeship scheme with Mercury supports management development and career progression!
ELIANA WOOSNAM
Undergraduate student studying Security and Crime Science BSc at UCL
“I am an undergraduate student at UCL studying Security and Crime Science BSc. I have been interning with CIS since September 2024, visiting many of their sites and experiencing day to day life of many individuals in a variety of roles across the company. Some of the highlights have been undertaking the Behavioural Detection Training with Simon Riley. Despite accidentally mistaking another member of my course as a suspicious member of the public, I feel I learnt a great deal. Although I think it’s probably for the best that I leave it to the professionals for now! Although I think it’s probably for the best that I leave it to the professionals for now!
Another highlight for me was spending a day with the Intelligence Hub team. Seeing how they manage to collect information about upcoming events that could impact all the various sites across the country was both fascinating and impressive. Particularly considering not only the huge geographical variations in locations of sites but also the huge differences in types of site users.
I also really enjoyed visiting many of the sites themselves. I have now seen views of London from the roof of several buildings I never thought I would get to enter, which was definitely an unexpected highlight. My favourite roof view was probably the Leadenhall building or Paddington Square. I got to experience firsthand how security interacts with building management and how public perceptions of security within a building can differ drastically depending on the client’s objectives and aesthetic choices.
Interning for CIS has truly been an eye opening experience in so many ways. For example, in December, I was also lucky enough to attend the Counter Terrorism Summit for the Department of Culture, Media and Sport and DBT Partnership Organisations. Hearing Figen Murray speak about Martyn’s Law was both incredibly moving and inspiring. I feel incredibly lucky to have had the opportunity to experience so much in such a short period of time. Thank you so much to Both Ray Marskell, Director of Risk and Intelligence and Joe Easterbrook, Site Manager, for making this internship possible, I look forward to continuing to intern for CIS in the New year.”

30 YEARS SERVICE - WAYNE GORDON HITS A MILESTONE ANNIVERSARY!
Wayne stated:
“Wow, 30 years have truly flown by! I started with CIS security back in 1995, and looking back, it’s been an incredible ride. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working in so many roles, at so many places, that I’ve honestly lost count. But one thing I’ve always been sure of is how much I’ve enjoyed my time here, and how much I’ve grown as a professional.
I’m truly honoured to have been recognized for 30 years of service. It’s a moment of pride, but it’s also a reflection of the amazing people I’ve had the chance to work alongside. I feel incredibly lucky to work at CIS, and to have learned so much from colleagues who have shaped my career. Every step along the way has made me a better professional and person.
What truly stands out to me is how CIS has supported my growth. The opportunities for training, development, and staying connected as a team have been crucial to my success. I’m grateful for the strong team we have here, and I’m proud to contribute to a company that values its people as much as CIS does.
Thank you for being part of this journey. It’s been a privilege, and I’m excited for what’s ahead.”

Payroll Giving is the most tax-efficient way for you to make donations directly from your gross pay to any UK-registered charity, good cause, or place of worship.
Payroll Giving donations are deducted after National Insurance but before tax, so everyone who is paid by PAYE is eligible for the scheme.
The scheme allows you to give regularly to charity cost-effectively. Your chosen charity also benefits from receiving regular donations without the need to claim back tax from HM Revenue & Customs.
Tax Savings
The Payroll Giving scheme makes donations to your chosen charity directly from your salary after National Insurance contributions are calculated before income tax is deducted. You do not pay tax on the donation, only on the remaining amount, so tax relief is given immediately after the donation. Tax relief is calculated at your highest rate of tax.
For example, if you are a 20% taxpayer, it would only cost you £4 to make a £5 donation to your chosen charity. If you are a 40% taxpayer, it would only cost you £3 to make a £5 donation.

FAQs
1.Can I give to any charity through Payroll Giving?
Yes, you can donate to any UK-registered charity, good cause, or place of worship. If you want to give to a small local charity that is not well known, it is advisable to include the registered charity number on your donor form.
2.Is there a minimum or maximum amount I have to give?
No
3.How is Payroll Giving different to a Direct Debit (Gift Aid)?
Payroll Giving is taken straight from your gross (pretax) pay, so there is no need for the charity you choose to physically claim the tax back through Gift Aid from HM Revenue & Customs. This saves them money in administration. If you are a higher rate taxpayer, Payroll Giving is the only way that a charity can automatically receive all y our tax on your charitable donation.
4.How do I know that my donation will reach the charity I have chosen?
Your employer have signed a contract with a Payroll Giving Agency (Charities Trust), who handle all monies donated through the scheme and are regulated by HM Revenue & Customs. A copy of the form you fill in is sent to Charities Trust so that when Payroll sends them your first donation they know who the donation is coming from and wh ich charity to send it on to.
5.If I decide to take part in Payroll Giving today how long will it be before the first deduction is taken from my pay?
This depends on when you fill in the form, but as a rule, it will start on the next available payroll run.
7.Are there any Admin fees for Payroll Giving?
Charitable Giving will deduct a small administration fee (25p per month) from your donations before paying funds to the charity.
8.Can I stop giving when I want to?
Yes, please visit here and click ‘start now’ and then select ‘cancel’ on the donation form.
9.Can I change which charity/ies I support and the amount/s?
Yes, please visit here and click ‘start now’ and then select ‘replace’ or ‘add’ on the donation form.
10.What happens to my Payroll Giving deduction if I leave my job?
If you leave employment, Payroll Giving will automatically stop.
6.How do I set up my Payroll Giving donations?
Please visit here and click ‘start now’ to set up your donations. The online site provides further information and a database of hundreds of charities to research which cause you might like to support.
11.If I receive a Statutory Payment, will my donations continue?
As Payroll Giving is a deduction from pay and not a salary exchange arrangement, Payroll Giving deductions can be made from Statutory Maternity Pay (SMP), Statutory Sick Pay (SSP), Statutory Adoption Pay (SAP) and Statutory Paternity Pay (SPP). Payroll Giving donations will continue even if you receive a Statutory Payment. You can, however, cancel your donations at any time. If you need any assistance or further guidance, please access the live chat at, the bottom left of the screen visit here
EARLY PAY BENEFIT
Early Pay is a mobile app that gives you flexibility in how you take your pay. It is like pay on-demand which means you can take some of your pay early, in the case of an emergency.
Early Pay is a mobile app that gives you flexibility in how you take your pay. It is like pay on-demand which means you can take some of your pay early, in the case of an emergency.
How does it work?
Early Pay lets you see how much you could withdraw from the wages you’ve earned so far in a month. You can withdraw some of these funds and the money will then appear in your bank account in a few minutes.
How does my balance get updated?
Your drawdown balance will be updated once a week, (by Wednesday midday), by the payroll team and it will only include shifts already completed, between the 1st and the Sunday prior, as per your Timegate diary.
As an example, by Wednesday 19th March 2025, the update in Early Pay will be for the period Saturday 1st March 2025 to Sunday 16th March 2025.
What pay elements are included in my balance?
Only worked and confirmed shifts will be included in the available balance; holidays will not be included.
How much can I drawdown?
A maximum 50% of your earned shifts (with a £400 cap) in a calendar month. A transaction fee of £2.95 will also apply for every transaction you make. For example, if you withdraw £50 on the 17th March, and a further £50 on the 19th March, then on pay day 10th April, you will have a deduction of £105.90. This is for the two withdrawal amounts of £50 plus £2.95 fee for each transaction made.
Can I postpone or split the repayment of any amounts drawn?
It is not possible to postpone or split any of the drawdown amounts. These will be deducted from the next available pay date. We advise that you only withdraw if absolutely necessary and only if you know you can afford to have a deduction of your next wages.
IMPORTANT POINTS
f Only withdraw if it is absolutely necessary.
f Keep any withdrawals to a minimum, to avoid re-occurring transaction fees. The payroll team can review and suspend individual access if Early Pay is not used responsibly.
f Early Pay works in line with our pay periods which are calendar months. Balances will revert to zero on the 1st of each month and you will not be able to withdraw funds until the payroll team has updated the system.
f Early Pay will be locked by 5pm on the last day of each month and reactivated on payday.
RESPONSIBLE SPENDING
Early Pay is a great benefit if used responsibly. It is important to understand this is not a loan facility and therefore all amounts withdrawn will be deducted from the next available pay day with no exceptions. In case of misuse, the payroll team will have the option to suspend individuals from using Early Pay.

Saving into a workplace pension comes with several benefits. Here are the main points the campaign emphasises:
Employer Contributions
Take advantage of employer contributions – this is essentially “free money” that can significantly boost your retirement savings.
Tax Relief
Pension contributions benefit from government tax relief. This means that for every contribution you make, the government adds a percentage based on your tax bracket.
For example, if you are a basic rate taxpayer and you contribute £100, it only cost you £80, as the government adds £20 (20% tax relief), resulting in a total of £100 going into your pension pot.
Growth Over Time
The money you save in your pension has the potential to grow, thanks to investment returns. It’s vital to start contributing early and save consistently.
Pension Consolidation
Reviewing and consolidating pensions from different jobs can help keep track of savings and potentially reduce fees.
Hassle-Free And Flexible
With automatic deductions from your salary, saving for retirement becomes effortless. Pension freedoms give the individual choice of how and when to access their pension savings from the age of 55.
Plan For The Future You Want
Using tools like PLSA Retirement Living Standards, the campaign encourages people to think about the lifestyle they want in retirement and plan accordingly.
Reconnect with your pension by visiting the Standard Life app today! With 24/7 access, you can stay up to date on your contributions, investment balance, and growth. The app’s range of management tools allows you to estimate your retirement income, update your personal details, select beneficiaries or transfer other pensions in, among other features. By actively managing your Standard Life pension, you stay in control of your financial planning and can make proactive decisions for a more secure future.

PENETRATION TESTING CARRIED
OUT IN PARTNERSHIP WITH SILVERFOX
SILVER FOX AUDITS
The penetration testing carried out in partnership with Silverfox is an essential part of service delivery and live testing. The teams and individuals that really have shone at Here East, Leadenhall Building and The Bloom have had consecutively high pass marks in deterring and foiling the plans of our auditors.
Penetration testing is crucial in physical security and professional guarding as it helps our teams and clients identify weaknesses in their security process, application and promotes training and drives improvement as necessary. It also promotes the positive messages to deter hostile activity and the allows for deterrent comms when the teams engage and can learn from the experience on the feedback post test. Its far better to have a friendly foe exploit any gaps for review than the alternative.
CIS promote this across all our contracts to allow for process review, breach responses, social auditor practice and urbex deterrence, all of which we can see as part of the MO from the demonstration activities that are a daily occurrence across the city. Our teams welcome the opportunity to:
1. Identifies Gaps in Physical Security Measures
Penetration testing helps assess the effectiveness of barriers like fences, security doors, locks, CCTV surveillance, and alarm systems. It can reveal flaws such as blind spots in camera coverage or weaknesses in access control mechanisms.
2. Tests Officer Guarding Effectiveness
Security personnel play a vital role in preventing unauthorized access.
Penetration testing evaluates guards’ alertness, adherence to protocols, and response times when confronted with simulated security breaches.
3. Prevents Unauthorized Access
By attempting to bypass security controls, penetration testing can expose vulnerabilities such as: Tailgating risks, Weak ID or pass issuing processes, failure to challenge unfamiliar individuals in restricted areas and test our reception/occupier access processes.
4. Enhances Emergency Response Readiness
Simulated intrusions and attack scenarios help organizations assess how well security teams react to incidents such as; unauthorised access attempts, break-ins and theft scenarios, insider threats from employees or contractors.
5. Strengthens Security Policies and Training
Findings from our tests help teams improve security policies and conduct targeted training for security personnel, ensuring they understand potential threats and how to mitigate them effectively.
6. Evaluates Coordination Between Security Layers
Security often relies on multiple components, including technology, personnel, and procedures. As the squidgy organic element, people let the systems down, pose numerous challenges and a never ending variety of new and interesting ways to get to places they shouldn’t, don’t have access to or simply too important to follow security, pushing these buttons is essential for our absolute basic security delivery needs.
7. Builds a Culture of Security Awareness
By conducting penetration tests, our clients and their customers reinforce the importance of vigilance among employees and security teams, reducing the risk of complacency. As we all know in this industry, we face a constant battle of challenges to security processes, through apathy, deceit, politeness, the need to ensure good customer service, visitor engagement, and these can often take priority over the core security that we have a as basis of our contracts and expectations. A solid confident security culture, that is supported across all involved leads to the successes we see here with these outstanding teams and locations.
Each location has demonstrated a keen adherence to core principles, the basic processes and application of engagement and awareness. In the current climate and with the ongoing threats that we face across London, this is what makes security successful, get the foundations right and the rest will fall into place. Great work everyone and demonstrates a real team approach to effective security delivery.
BLOOM OFFICER AWARD
Our teams highlighted here have proven that they implement the core security basics to maximum effect and this is demonstrated time and again throughout the company. We celebrate the consistent delivery of excellence with these teams, who are the top three performing teams across the company.
Well done to you all!
Lynda Moore, Managing Partner, of FM Contract Watch which provides The Silver Fox Audit Scheme said;
“I am delighted to join CIS Security for the Silver Fox Award presentations to the security teams who have excelled during their penetration audits completed over the past year. The audit is not just preventing unauthorised access, but also a test of the security officer’s knowledge and site documentation. We congratulate all the security officers who passed the audit, especially those who are being recognised here today.”

CIS ASSESSMENT DAY
Currently there are several positive structural changes happening within CIS, giving many people the opportunity to progress. This assessment day showed the positive forward thinking of the portfolio leaders, giving colleagues the opportunity to step out of their comfort zone and push their boundaries. This was a great example of CIS continuing to nurture and develop from within, supporting their staff to achieve their goals.
Thank you to Domingo Desousa, Key Account Director, for arranging the assessment and a huge well done to Andrew Gough, Head of Security, for hosting and making this great day possible.
A huge well done to those that presented.

“I would like to express my views on the protest training course conducted by Jim McAllister.
Working at 40 Leadenhall, which is affected by the risk of protest, I found the course to be very informative and insightful.
The course has helped me to gain more confidence and knowledge in how to deal with the risk and threat of protest. It has also helped me to have a better understanding of the legislation surrounding protesting. I hugely recommend this training to any site.”
On the 13th February, CIS hosted a Protest Awareness Training Seminar. At CIS, we remain dedicated to upholding the highest standards of service excellence. The training was presented by Jim McAllister, our Colleague Development Manager.

We’re extremely fortunate to have Jim McAllister that can create this training, delivering it with passion and professionalism. Thank you to 40 Leadenhall and JLL in supporting this new innovative training.”
CIS FEATURED IN THE SECURITY JOURNAL UK
Ray Marskell MSyl, Director of Risk and Intelligence, had the privilege of sharing with the Security Journal UK (SJUK) key insights on how technology can support the guarding elements of security services.
Influencers
Edition 2025
Ray Marskell
Director of Risk and Intelligence CIS Security Limited
ARay asked the question:
“Are we ready as a sector, and how do we focus our efforts on upskilling people in the use of technology?”
Ray has over 30 years’ experience of policing London with a career that spanned disciplines such as Public Order, Firearms, Counter Terrorism, International Training & Development and Strategic Partnerships. He is a member of the Security Institute and sits on various boards and committees, including roles as a Board member for Crime Stoppers London, as a Committee member with the City of London Crime Prevention Association and as a Member of the London Leadership Team for the City Security Council.
“As a sector, we have a duty to those we provide a service to and to those who offer that service, by ensuring we stay abreast and on the front foot when it comes to technology.”
s we close off 2024 and look to see what 2025 brings to our unique sector, I have thought about how current and future technology can support the guarding element of security service provisions.
I think we all accept that technology is not only a fundamental enabler of services but also brings opportunities to harm the safety and security of people, places and infrastructure.
responsibility to identify and mitigate the threats of the new world?
We need to find the answers together and put some real emphasis on embracing technology and innovation. However, this must be supported by a skilled workforce with the required knowledge.
Ray Marskell
For example, over the last year or so, the National Protective Security Authority has repeatedly reminded us of the real threats that counter uncrewed aerial systems (C-UAS) pose and has offered advice around a relevant security strategy that must be acknowledged and integrated with wider protective security measures. C-UAS mitigation measures must form part of a site’s concept of operations for security.
In brief, we need to work smarter with technology to mitigate the threats that technology brings.
As a sector, we have a duty to those we provide a service to and to those who offer that service, by ensuring we stay abreast and on the front foot when it comes to technology. We have a duty to our people to keep them skilled and current; otherwise, we run the risk as a sector of falling behind and deskilling our current workforce.
Our sector is growing at pace, which is great to see as it will offer even more diversity of opportunities, but we recognise there are anticipated shortfalls in headcount across the industry.
Director of Risk and Intelligence
CIS Security Limited
My question is this: Are we ready as a sector and who do we need to focus our efforts on around upskilling in the use of technology? Is it the security officers and supervisors responsible for running an on-site control room, or do we need to completely refocus on
ATo attract the next generation of security operatives, they will want to see that they are entering a career path that is not only full of opportunity but also one that utilises and operates as one with technology. Otherwise, we face a real risk of people deciding against joining the security sector for fear of being left behind in our digital age.
s we close off 2024 and look to see what 2025 brings to our unique sector, I have thought responsibility mitigate world?

GREAT NEWS
Congratulations to Odia and Ode on the birth of baby Ocean, and well done to our quick thinking CIS Security officers, Ade Oloye and Mohammed Elamine Chabat!
When expectant mother Odia arrived at University Hospital Lewisham in active labour and whilst in the car park, she quickly realised she wouldn’t make it to the birthing unit, and called for help. Without hesitation, Ade stepped in to assist, ensuring a safe and smooth delivery. Moments later, Mohammed arrived to support, keeping mother and baby stable until medical teams took over.
Their quick thinking, compassion, and dedication turned an intense moment into the beautiful and safe arrival of baby Ocean. Ade said, “I felt an immense sense of pride in being able to help at such a crucial moment and play a role in the delivery of baby Ocean. This was a reminder that security colleagues play a much broader role in ensuring the well-being of people, not just through protection but also by offering care and compassion when it matters most. It really is all in a day’s work for us!”

GREAT FEEDBACK
Positive feedback for the CIS team from Brookfield - The Gilbert.
“Just wanted to provide some feedback for you about the team since John has left The Gilbert. The team have really held down the fort and everyone has stepped up when needed. I also just wanted to share good feedback with you from two different members of Brookfield who were impressed with how hands on the team are and how helpful everyone is when they come to site. Last week, we had a busy site with two Brookfield activations in the reception, requiring multiple deliveries where the team just knew what to do and got stuck in without asking. Yaw and Yousef specifically manage the deliveries very well and keep everything running smoothly!
Really grateful for the teams help and the strong team we have at The Gilbert! Its not often we get good feedback in our line of work so thought it was really important to share with you when two different staff of Brookfield have mentioned good feedback to me.”

CIS SECURITY FORUM
Last month CIS held their first Security Forum at MidCity Place, who were delighted to host this with Simon Riley, BA (Hons). Simon delivered an insightful session for our occupiers and building team, focusing on behavioural detection, understanding baselines, recognising what’s normal, and identifying suspicious behaviour. The session was incredibly valuable, and the feedback from attendees was fantastic. A great reminder of the importance of situational awareness in keeping ourselves and our spaces safe.
Exercise Team Bonding Event at 40 Leadenhall
With such busy lives and long shifts in security, it is difficult to find the time to look after yourself, both physically and mentally. The 40 Leadenhall teams have identified the importance of looking after themselves and have put health and wellbeing at the centre of what they do, giving everyone the opportunity to use the incredible facilities.
The CIS Security Limited team has embraced this, with multiple colleagues joining in with the monthly and weekly team fitness events. This year, the team has been joining in with the weekly run club and has taken part in a fitness class and peloton bike class.
These sessions have helped bring the service partners together, improving their teamwork and mood and relieving the buildup of stress.

07. HEALTH AND SAFETY
INCREASE IN ATTACKS ON LONE WORKERS
There has been a rise in physical attacks and weapon-related incidents reported by workers over the past three years. How serious is the problem, and what can you do to reduce the risk to your lone workers? STUART BATEMAN
Mental health implications
The report
A report commissioned by Solo Protect aligns with broader trends in workplace violence across the UK, particularly in high-risk industries like retail, healthcare, local government and transport. HSE statistics recorded 649,000 incidents of workplace violence in 2022/23. For the full report.
Prioritise lone worker safety
Don’t just say it, do it. Prioritising the safety of lone workers is not just a legal requirement but also a moral obligation that enhances employee morale and productivity. If a worker is faced with threatening behaviour, it may be difficult to phone 999 and this could inflame an already serious situation. You have a duty to ensure that the worker can seek assistance with ease.
Working alone for extended periods can lead to feelings of isolation, loneliness and increased stress levels, anxiety and depression. Additionally, lone workers may experience heightened stress due to the responsibility of handling tasks independently, such as cash or alcohol transactions, without immediate support from others.
When adding the threat of violence into that equation, it’s easy to see why lone working can have a significant impact on a person’s mental health.
Managing the risk
It’s essential to undertake a risk assessment so you can determine the likelihood and severity of a verbal or physical attack to protect your lone workers in so far as is reasonably practicable. Make sure you put measures in place to ensure the effectiveness of your lone working system by:
f Establishing a protocol for regular check-ins, whether through phone calls, text messages or dedicated monitoring systems, check calls set up to CIS control room?
f Equipping them with reliable emergency communication tools like panic buttons, emergency phones, or mobile apps enabling immediate distress signal alerts.
f Providing comprehensive training on using communication devices effectively. They should understand your policy, including emergency contact procedures, and be aware of when and how to escalate issues for help. Make these guidelines easily accessible and ensure workers understand their reporting responsibilities.
f Conducting thorough investigations into reported incidents to identify root causes and implement appropriate corrective measures. Offer feedback on the actions taken to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
Physical and verbal attacks are on the increase across all sectors, with retail alone reporting 1.2m cases in a year. Have a robust policy and controls, e.g. panic buttons, in place, and train staff in how to respond in the face of adversity.
CIS FIRST RESPONSE EMERGENCY CARE LEVEL 3 TRAINING (FREC 3)
Last month, Jack Scott Martin, Supervisor Paternoster Square took part in a FREC3 First Aid course, led by Darcy Fletcher, Company Trainer.
Well done Jack Scott Martin for your enthusiasm and keenness to learn. Thank you Tom McCrone for hosting us and to Jason Southon, Duty Security Manager.
“This was a superb course from start to finish. Darcy Fletcher is the best First Aid trainer I have ever experienced. She truly is a subject matter expert and is passionate about teaching.”
BLUE MONDAY - MENTAL HEALTH
FIRST AID TRAINING
On Monday, January 20th, CIS Security Limited provided a Mental Health First Aid Training workshop for Blue Monday 2025. This training was hosted by 40 Leadenhall and presented by CIS Trainer, Paula Orton.
Blue Monday is a day to acknowledge and address feelings of sadness and depression that some individuals may experience, especially during the winter months. It serves as a reminder to prioritise mental health and seek support if needed.
We would like to say a huge thank you to 40 Leadenhall for hosting this event and a huge well done to Head of Security, Andrew Gough for organising this important workshop. Thank you Paula Orton for providing the training.
Paula Orton stated:
“Mental Health First Aid is more important than ever. Given that 1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem each year, I believe that the more people we have trained in Mental Health First Aid, the better off we will all be. It has been a pleasure to educate not only our CIS colleagues, but all our service partners at 40 Leadenhall this ‘Blue Monday’. Thank you for inviting me to be a part of this fantastic initiative.”
Andrew Gough stated:
“At 40 Leadenhall we appreciate the importance of looking after not only our teams but everyone that comes into the building. This is not only physically but mentally. With the pressures we all face day to day, it’s easy to become secluded and isolated. This is where we need to be able to support each other.
Blue Monday is ‘allegedly’ the most depressing day of the year. This makes it an ideal time to raise awareness and break down the stigma attached to Mental Health. The training provided by Paula Orton and CIS will go a long way in achieving this.”
TIME TO TALK DAY
CIS Colleagues took some time to talk!
On 6th February it was Time to Talk Day, dedicated to encouraging conversations about mental health and breaking the stigma surrounding it. Talking about mental health is a crucial step in tackling the isolation and discrimination that many people face, and Time to Talk Day provides an opportunity to spark these conversations.
Mental health issues affect millions of people every year, and talking about them can be the first step towards getting the support and help needed.
At CIS, we took some time to grab a brew, pull up a chair and talk things through.

AHMER RIZVI SECURITY
MANAGER & ABYAZ RIZVI
A huge well done to Ahmer Rizvi, Security Manager at Knightsbridge Estate for mentoring his younger brother to achieve his dream.
Ahmer Rizvi Stated:
“Abyaz has been selected for Pakistan First-Class Cricket by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). He is playing his debut innings in Pakistan now called Quaid-e-Azam Torphy. This is not only a significant milestone for him but also a moment of immense pride for our entire family.
Reflecting on the journey, I still remember the challenges we faced 12 years ago when I bought him his first expensive hardball cricket bat. At the time, affording a full professional kit was extremely difficult. However, today, PCB is sponsoring his cricket gear, and multinational brands are approaching him to become their ambassador—a true testament to his dedication and perseverance.
I am incredibly proud of my younger brother for his dedication and perseverance. Not only has he achieved a significant milestone in his cricketing career by being selected for Pakistan First-Class Cricket, but he is also successfully continuing his journey in modelling alongside the sport.
Balancing both fields requires immense hard work and commitment, and it is truly inspiring to see him excel in both. His passion, determination, and ability to manage these demanding careers are a testament to his talent and resilience. I couldn’t be happier for him, and I look forward to seeing him achieve even greater success in the future.
