U of S GardenLine open for Season Saskatoon - the idea of growing your own garden or starting a new landscaping project can be an overwhelming idea for the new gardener or homeowner. With the May long weekend fast approaching, the University of Saskatchewan’s GardenLine has started taking calls for this growing season.

GardenLine is a free service offered through the University of Saskatchewan College of Agriculture and Bioresources to help answer gardening questions and concerns.

“From the expert gardener to the first timer or even commercial businesses, all questions are welcome with eagerness,” said MaryLee McArthur, GardeLine coordinator, with the College of Agriculture and Bioresources. “After such a long winter, we are really looking forward to supporting residents on anything yard and garden related.”

GardenLine offers to help with plant and pest identification, can suggest plants or trees that are ideal for yards and our climate and other useful landscaping tips. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned expert, you’ll find useful gardening tips and inspiration from picking up the phone.

For more information or advice call 306-966-5865. The phone line will run until August 31, Monday to Thursday, from 9am to noon and 1pm to 4pm. While the advice is free, long-distance charges will apply. CFFC Quad/Vehicle Poker Rally Results The Community Facility Fundraising Committee (CFFC) hosted a Quad/Vehicle Poker Rally on Saturday, May 11th, 2013. It was a beautiful day for the 81 or so riders that came out to enjoy the rally. The route was to Albert’s cabin with the final destination, meal and prize payouts at Durocher Lake. The winners were:

High Hand $1000 - Tavio Morin - 335 points $300 - Wendy Eldridge - 327 points $200 - Clarence Keough - 312 points

Low Hand $1000 - Donalda Opekokew - 69 points $300 & $200 - Angie Campbell & Tony Ulriksen had 71 points each.

Riders Only High Hand - Cody Docken - 298 points Low Hand - Vince Laliberte & Janice Iron had 87 points each.

Most Ghostriders Kim Felske - 248 ghostriders - $1000 Tommy Roy - 214 ghostriders - $500 Sherry Burnouf - 117 ghostriders - $300 Linda Campbell & Village Office also collected ghostriders and although they didn’t qualify for the prizes, your contribution is very much appreciated.

Participate in the Summit Run In Memory of Laurie Krivoshein Once again, Donna Gauthier and Sarah Aubichon will be running 10k in memory of Laurie Krivoshein at the Prince Albert Marathon on Saturday, June 15, 2013.

Funds raised through the sale of periwinkles ($1.00) and t-shirts. This year, the Krivoshein family have decided to donate these funds to assist those who are currently receiving cancer treatments.

ATV Safety Now that spring has arrived, the use of ATV’s is increasing. The Beauval RCMP would like to remind the public to be safe when using ATV’s, including side by sides. The RCMP also reminds everyone that the All Terrain Vehicles Act states that you must hold a valid drivers licence in order to operate an ATV, and that no one under the age of 16 may operate ATV. You must also wear a helmet and eye protection when operating an ATV. ATVs should be driven in a safe and responsible manner at all times, and are not to be driven on the highway. Anyone operating an ATV against the laws set out in the ATV act could receive a fine and/or have their ATV seized and impounded. ATVs are a great way to get out and enjoy summer and have fun, and we ask that everyone keep safety and the law in mind when riding. If you have any questions about the use of ATVs or if you would like to see the ATV Act, please contact the Beauval RCMP @ 306-288-6400.
